  • more like "SpaceJesus: My Lightsaber's Invisible, Bitch"

  • 1:00 Film title 1:40 Film start. There I saved you from staring at white dots on a black background for a minute and pre-movie credits you will see again at the end.

  • This movie bears absolutely no resemblence to STAR WARS whatsoever. Whomever made that statement was totally clueless. Good god.

  • Brazen rip-off of Star Wars?

I don't recall a young man mining a sword out of rubble in Star Wars.

  • whats this crap about the plot being simular to Star Wars??? its nothing like it, its only because its futeristic.

  • The main bad guy at first kind of reminds me of Mo Rham (Speeling) from temple of doom

  • holy smoke!! I was looking for this for a very long time... thanks mate!!! :)

  • Thanks for putting this one up, love it

  • I have never seen this version of the re-telling of the young Senator Hatch's escape from Utah to Washington D.C. before.

  • Had this movie, watched it over and over until the tape broke.

  • So far I see no similarities to Star Wars

  • That little boy was probably lashed across the eyes like the old dude. This was pretty hardcore for a cartoon back in 1985. Violence, torture, death. I was 8 years old and loved it! Not really a star wars rip-off but very mainstream sci-fi.

  • anthony de longis rocks in this

  • okay this may only be the first part, but this doesn't seem like a Star Wars rip-off. It seems more like a science fiction pre-curser to "The City of Ember"

  • Epic soundtrack with a CS-80. Cartoon is probably nice too. :/

    My favorit.........

  • Fools,

If you seek war, then go to Mars as the mines are empty of good workers.

Moon is being in a stage of retrofit...,

    Wake up you retardicon's....

  • Better than Star Treck...

  • My favourite Childhood movie!

  • story line reminds me a little bit of gurren lagann a bit

  • 9:23 - it's not because your blind, it's because you're a little punk!

  • i cant help but point out how usfull oph from Avatar the last Airbender would be

  • The Intro:

-text like Star Trek Wrath of Khan

    -background like Star Wars

-Music has moments of Superman and Indiana Jones

-first few seconds of the scene = transformers the animated movie

It's like they took the best movie elements and put them into the intro.

  • @OmegaDeman plus a little of The Legend of Zelda main theme

  • i not only liked this movie because of the animation, but because I have a movie named by my name. 8D

  • This movie is a freakin GEM. I have no idea why it's so under-appreciated.

  • I have this on VHS and DVD, and I'm keeping BOTH copies! This is by far one the MOST underrated animated cinematic feats of our time! It's 80's all the way. I can watch this constantly (and I have) and NEVER get tired of it!!

  • ah memories hope they don't remake this

  • @jeenormus I'm with you100%!! Just about eveything hollywood remakes, winds up watered down and crappy! This is a gem that should not be tampered with!

  • @Orbot

Except this movie is an animated cash-in on Star Wars and Heavy Metal and one of the best animated movies for adults

  • @Johnlindsey289 Very true! It has obvious (and possibly purposeful) Start Wars undertones (Orin's sword) and Heavy Metal undertones (Silica and Dagg's pairing). But yet has a unique quality about it all its own. And yes, the animation for the time frame is excellent! I can watch this film over and over (in which I have) and never get tired!

  • @jeenormus

This movie is great but also a Star Wars wannabe

  • @Johnlindsey289 hahhaaha omfg XD

  • @26moonbeam1

How old were you when you saw this movie? i was 4 when i saw this in theaters in 3D and one of my first adult animated movies

  • i'm actually named after this film lol

  • @vfxmasterorin your name is seriously Orin? sweetness. :)

  • @johnlindsey289 This movie takes me back... my dad had this movie on beta!! LOL!

  • This had the perfect intro until the credits appear

  • Now this is what I call classic!!!

  • would've taken a LOOONNGGGGG time to make.

  • OH MY GOD!!! i remember watching this on betamax!! I must of watched this at least 30 times when i was a kid. How the hell did i forget this film??? Awesome

  • @johnlindsey289

When I saw this it was had just gotten onto HBO... and yes it does remind me of all those movies, and throw in a little Zardoz.

  • I saw this in theaters when i was a kid at age 4 in 3D in it's december release and blew me away. This movie is the Avatar of the 80's! anyone finds this movie similar to Cameron's movie? in fact this is one of Cameron's favorite animated movies and used it as one of his inspirations to his new movie especially the similar villain, similar alien jungle, similar alien messiah and the same alien horses.

  • @Johnlindsey289 YEAH! I saw this in the theaters. I remember seeing this in the theaters when I was knee high to a grasshopper. The animation was great and holds up well given it's what almost 30 old? I remember getting freaked out by the mutants that wanted his parts. Very Star Wars inspired but not to the point where you can't enjoy it. Very ballsy too. They'd have a hard time getting this cleared nowadays in a theater. I must've drawn Arthur a million times when I was a kid.

  • @alekesam

Do you also remember seeing The Black Cauldron in theaters as well that year? another cool PG-rated adult animated fantasy epic. Do you also remember Warriors of the Wind or Rock and Rule?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Naw, missed out on them. I had a very weird childhood for a variety of reasons. I got to see some things but somehow missed out on others, even if it was released the same year/time period. So I saw Terminator as a kid, but not Blade Runner. A lot of the really good stuff I didn't see until I got older. And I'm still finding gems as a 36 year old, especially due to availibility of things these days.. I'm kinda glad it worked out that way since now I still have stuff to

  • look up and find...y'know, saving the best for last. I'm the same way with comics and animation as well.

  • And thanx for the upload ColdPizza. You even put up a quality video.

  • This movie was in 3-D when it when 3-D was not overly used and still fun.

  • @joesef777

    3D was rare back then.

  • 7:08 lightsabers ftw.

  • I loved this movie as a kid!! Cool!!

  • I've got this on DVD, and it's one of my fav films.

  • ÉIan is his aunt too :3

  • I finally had some free time to sit down and watch this movie. I have to say I LOVE IT ! awesome awesome. Reminds me of Wizards and Fantastic Planet.

  • @izzisdizzi

What about Heavy Metal, Rock and Rule or Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind aka Warriors of the Wind?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Nausicca is amazing, so is heavy metal. u should watch "FELIDAE" on here. It's a really cool cartoon about cats. very beautiful.

  • i grew up with this movie!!!!! awesome!!!!!

  • Immagunnakilldatkid

  • wow.. this is very good. can't wait to see the rest.

  • I love the soundtrack and the animation style.

  • @Vitruviux

Do you htink it's similar to Heavy Metal and James Cameron's Avatar and Star Wars combined with Nausicaa?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Don't remember their soundtracks but Starchaser's was awesome! typical 80s synthesizer, very "scifi, future, space".

  • @Vitruviux Year. great sounds...sometime i wish i was born 10 or 15 year earlier (born 85)

  • 2:49 man that guy got owned!

  • Never heard of this cartoon. It's dated now, but I would have loved this as a kid.

  • Never dig up... up is Hell

  • ggggrrrrr!!!! dead again??? why does it always have to be like this???.....

  • Tell me how STNG didn't get this them song first????...... wait until after the first minute + 5 seconds.

  • lil digger

  • thank you amazing film from back in the day

  • this movie is terrible hehe

  • nice to see this was preserved... in fact, when I went to see it, it was the first 3-D flick I ever saw...

  • @Greatboy1994

    Yes it is.

  • omg!!i've been looking for this movie for so many years. and i couldn't remember the name! :') althought i wasn't born yet when this movie came out, it is a part of my childhood...i used to watch this with my older sister...brings back so many memories xD

    thank you so much!

  • Dagg Dubrini = woman want him, men what to be him.

Just one look at Dubrini's receding hairline proves that he is not a Han Solo clone in a brazen StarWars rip-off. Still an excellent animated movie that has stood the test of time.

  • managed to get it on vhs video,my all time fave film :)

  • Hell, I'd say so far this movie is more like Gurren Laggan than Star Wars.

  • I had this on laserdisc back in the 80's! It was awesome, me and my mate's just watched it loads, awesome movie

  • i feel sad for the old guy

he should have followed orin on his EPIC journey :)

or atleast escape in the end

  • not to sound rude about the movie but TO many people dies in just the beggining of the movie .

  • Holy crap, this is rare! What a find! I remember seeing the trailer on VHS as a kid but never got to see it. Thanks for uploading.

  • OMG i had this on tape years ago when i was a kid. Gud film then and still is now.

  • the old dude looks like the b.f.g. but the film i rememember was different.

  • I just bought this in field sequential 3D. 3D is really fantastic. ¾ into the movie I said to myself , “This reminds me a lot of Star Wars” Animation reminded me of Heavy Metal. Great movie.

  • I remember this from being a kid. Those mutants scared the hell outta me lol

  • @wolfmoon707 ditto!

  • Wow! Thankyou! I had this movie as a kid and have been trying to find it ever sinse. It is so brilliant!!

  • Ok so if you was 10 when this movie came out in 1985 how can you be 23 in 2010?

  • @madskillss604 re read his post "now 23 years later) his math is a bit off as its 25 years later but he dosnt say hes 23.

  • I haven't seen this since I was 10. My god, the memories !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in the theater with my dad and I saw this in 3D. It's absolutely amazing the amount of memories that came flooding back seeing this now. 23 years later, I can still remember how it felt to sit in that theater with my dad watching this in 3D. :-)

  • took me hours looking through canimated movie lists to find this again thanks for uploading :D i remember this when i was a kid

  • I thought of this randomly today while at work and lo and behold, by the magic of Youtube, I can watch it again. Many thanks for posting another chunk of my childhood to enjoy once again

  • My brother and I absolutely loved this movie growing up!

  • FINALLY!! ive found it, i been trying to remember so hard what this was called i had to search through all of the 80s animation to find this lol, :) god the years go fast

  • love this cartoon this shud b made in2 abig bugget film,

i had this many yrs ago, got pisst and watch it loads of time,,,,,,

  • thank so much for this!!!!!!

  • Apparently laser whips only burn old men.

  • sexy cartoon chick

  • Yamaha CS-80 made most of this movies soundtrack! :)

  • wish I could find a soundtrack or ANY songs from this.

A cs-80 would be nice too XD

  • i loved this film as a child.DVD available at Amazon

  • Don't forget, of course, that this movie was originally published in 3-d. I remember seeing this as a kid in the theatres, being wowed by the 3-d starfield at the beginning... and I made my own model of the starship out of legos :)

    Awesome nostalgia here.

  • I have been looking for this movie relentlessly for five days straight! This was my favorite movie as a kid .

It really makes you wonder about the happy-go-lucky junk they make for kids today.

  • I obviously suggest that people watch the entire story shown in this series of videos. You may learn a thing or two...

  • Orin

    Similar male names: (Orion)

The boy's name Orin \o-rin\ is a variant of Oran (Aramaic, Irish, Gaelic) and Oren (Hebrew, Irish, Gaelic), and the meaning of Orin is "light; pale; pine tree; fair, pale".

The baby name Orin sounds like Erin, Arin, Orrin, Orion, Oron and Orwin.

Other similar baby names are Odin, Olin, Orlin, Orsin, Orvin and Owin.

  • Thats the SAME 'bell' sound used for the 'Undertaker'...

  • George Lucas's liked it.

  • Lucas liked it because it was the same dream.

But did Star Trek Next Generation or Galaxy Quest borrow from Starchaser soundtrack... ???

  • I don't see why that's important

  • @BurnRoddy It is why there was no law suit filed for copyright.

  • I still fail to see the point one of my favorite films Battle Beyond The Stars and Hawk the slayer owe more to Star Wars than Starachaser. And Starwars is a redesigned pastiche of classic movies. Even if he didn't like the film he shoulld't sue.

  • @hellavadeal

    Has he said this?

  • So have I! I couldn't remember either. But I remember the trailer was on American Rabbit. I punched that in and here it is!!!

  • WOW I've been looking for this movie for years. Couldn't remember the name to save my life. And haven't seen it since it came on television. lol This is insane.

  • i was only 4 when they released this.

  • i saw this last, 14 years ago..... this film was bloody brilliant!

  • HIS SWORD WILL PIERCE THE HEAVENS!!

  • ya know, when i saw TTGL, i was thinking, the same thing

  • Temple of Doom much.....

  • better than star wars

  • better than star wars

  • I think that was digger

  • I love this animation.

  • havent seen this since I was in highschool made the day a lot better got to watch it with my son ...

  • Loved this when i was young. Being modeled on Star Wars can only be a bonus. If only they had done that with the new Star Wars movies.

    Groovy sound work too.

  • I cant remember how many times I saw this as a kid. Great movie

  • Thank you thank you thank you thank you, nostalgia rish, fucking legend!

  • A great Sci-Fi adventure. Great character design, animation and voice acting. A classic.

  • loved this movie, thx!

  • top animation

  • This was the first animated movie I ever saw where the characters used profanity, and where I got my online screen name from!

  • the best animated movie ever !!!!

  • What a classic, I got this back at my folks prob somwhere in the attic.

I like the picture quality it give the old film a more historic look, plus most old films have been ruined cos the different tech that was used at the time. Cartoons that had some film like violence with no slow boring lame plots that dont go nowhere like todays. The makers actualy put effort into entertaining the youth plus we def had better theme and scene music to the 80s cartoons.

  • exactly. Star Wars dropped like a bomb on the marketplace. Plus there's the fact that most of the meat of the star wars story is classic myth of the hero kind of stuff. Lucas even said that it all started with ripping off Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress.

  • So Andrew Belling did compose another a great music score after "Wizards". I must say this movie is a beast, I'm loving it so far.

  • I have this movie its so cool

  • I can't say tat I tought much of this moie. The theme tune was fanastic though. Talk about a thumping good tune.

  • I remember seeing this in the theater back in the 80's, in 3D. Seeing it again after all these years, it certainly hasn't aged very well. Either that or my memory has been cheating me. The animation is on par with TV animation of the time, like the stuff Filmation used to do.

  • This movie is the shit! It's totally unfair to call it a ripoff of Star Wars. Anyone who knows about production can see that it's the productions fault the movie seems like it, but if you really look at the story, there's a lot of difference! Especially the oppressive theocracy element. Way better.

  • I agree this movie was awesome. Why don't they make movies like this anymore?

  • that's a really good question, I think the answer is complex. Let me see if I can get my friend NeopreneJunebug to tell you about it, the guy is like an encyclopedia of this stuff.

  • i watcehd every day this cartoon when i was six. Thnks for upload

  • It was a movie...

  • Video my friend, video...

  • this must be terrible to watch at the age of 6

  • I haven't seen this since I was 6 years old. Thanks for the upload.

  • Thanks for uploading and sharing it!

  • wow, the dialogue so far is pretty awful but i like the story

  • The blind kid is so cute!!

  • WOW! I so remember this!!! "UP IS HELL!" LOL!! YES! Thanks so much for putting this up!!

  • OMG, i love this this film, it's so 80's, even though it pretty old it is still amazing!

  • Pretty cool animation for it's time. I like the artwork.

  • As a youngster, I thought this movies was sweet! 23 years later, I still think the same thing.

Starchaser: The Lengend of Orin will always be one of my favs.

  • LOVED this film as a kid, and still reckon it's pretty cool (and "adult") today... there's still a couple of moments that really made me go "wow, they wouldn't go THERE in a kid's film today". I like the look of the art and the characters are loads of fun (despite being fairly cliche). The music (especially the emotive and heroic main theme) absolutely ROCKS, too!

  • Sorry I misunderstood (plus I was drunk when I wrote the reply.)

  • seen this movie in the theater in 3-D when it first came out. I have been wanting to see it again for over 20 years now...wow

  • I saw this in the theatre in 3D. I remember people being mad because Rocky 4 was sold out. I don't think you can see it in 3D anymore, which made it a lot cooler to watch.

  • Man it has been years since i've seen this.

    This film is cool.

I think i've still got the video cassette lying around somewhere.

  • lol this movie is got a bit of adult tone...it would make a better live action movie than star wars in my opioion..would be better if they just changed bits and pieces of the story to be less george lucas(ish)

  • A classic, I tracked this down to a region one dvd releaase and got it sent over to the UK. Love it, and watch it every so often. Even my young nieces and nephews love this film. I always hoped they'd relase a sequal somehow as the universe the film was et in seemed full of possibilities.

  • Still kick a**!

  • Actually...I bought this movie on VHS long ago...and thought it was a lot like Star Wars...so I am in total agreement with ColdPizza...and posted a video response as well....unfortunatly I accidentally posted Justice League Football as a video response....ooops...anywho.....thanks for posting the movie coldpizza!!
