You're half right, the priest cannot do anything for you is correct. He is the medium to which we confess to God. God forgives your sins. No Catholic believes it is the priest who has the power to forgive. Like Jesus said, "Go out among the people. Who's sins you forgive they are forgiven." Why is that so hard for people to understand?
