I was up in Vancouver when I watched this on the Seattle CBS station, and much of the Johnny Olson tribute was blocked out by a special bulletin about a fatal small plane crash at Sea-Tac Airport. But, thank God for Youtube!
Isn't the "first four" breakfast club the name of the "place" people go if they are called down as the First Four and don't get out of Contestant's Row? Isn't a place a contestant can go to rather than something a contestant can escape from?
All hail Johnny Olson; he was the one who coined the phrase "Come On Down". All hail Rod Roddy; he always looked very spiffy in those sequin-covered jackets. They may be gone, but they'll NEVER be forgotten!
Now if only Rich Fields spent more time on camera while calling contestants to come on down, AND play characters in the showcases like Johnny and Rod before him.
Johnny was the man of the current run. But overall, out of all of the announcers of TPIR's entire history, I'd have to go with Don Pardo (and I wasn't even around for that version).

She had originally sent in pics to them before she got the wheel of fortune job. I believe in 1987 she allowed them to be shown in the magazine.

He was joking, of course he knew what Vanna White did, they wouldn't mention her if he didn't. At the time, Wheel of Fortune was still a CBS show.

Actually not (1997). CBS did not acquire King World until a year later.

RIP Johnny Olsen and Rod Roddy, and God Bless Bob Barker.

It's Olson.

I've seen it spelled both ways. I'm not sure how it's really spelled.

If you're referring to Johnny's last name, then Olson is correct. Olsen is not correct; Olson is.

OK, thanks!

I missed the Johnny Olson era, but I grew up in the Rod Roddy era, and I think they both did excellent.

Rod and Johnny both did a good job
