Song is a good footballer but so often leaves the defence exposed. I'll put it this way - Lucas over the last 2 seasons has the most tackles in the league by a distance while Song is one of the most dribbled past players in the league. And Lucas is quite decent technically imo

Lucas is a DM, he doesn't need to score goals or produce a defence splitting pass or beat defenders. All he has to do is keep possession, break up the play and protect the back four. @dannymawds Lucas' style is anything but "half-hearted". All season, especially in the wins against Chelsea and United he broke up play in midfield and kept the ball when others would punt it long. Adam is slow, lazy, cant tackle and wouldn't fit in to the team. Granted he can whip in the odd great free-kick and 40 yard pass, but one of the main reason for Blackpool's decline in the 2nd half of this season was him giving the ball away and not tracking back, something Lucas would never do.
if you look at the stats, lucas always has a really good pass completion rate and most of the fouls he gives away are to stop play when the opposition are attacking on the break and let the liverpool players get back into position. he has played consistently well this season and is probably the only outfield player who you can say that about! his new contract is well deserved! Song is a good footballer but so often leaves the defence exposed. I'll put it this way - Lucas over the last 2 seasons has the most tackles in the league by a distance while Song is one of the most dribbled past players in the league. And Lucas is quite decent technically imo

He's a good player your right. But next season It's gonna be so difficult to choose the midfield lineup. Charlie Adam, Steven Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson, Spearing, Meirles ( Maybe ). Depends on what formation he goes with, but looks like he's going for a 442 or 443. I say let the Defenders do the defending, let the midfields assist the strikers, and let the strikers score. Simple as.

@craigyt1 1 i think it's unlikely we'll play 443 lol! every team against every opposition needs a holding midfielder. not just to defend but to attack too. post alonso when agger (and aurelio) doesn't play we have a tough time getting the ball out of defense. lucas has added that skill to his game and now there's nobody i'd rather see receivng the ball back to goal in his own half. and yes he often passes it sideways, but a sideways pass in that position is all ANYONE can do sometimes

Awful player,brings nothing to a game,hasn't scored in the league since May 2009,never looks like creating anything,just runs around,fouling and passing the ball sideways.We have won nothing since he joined and will win nothing with him in the team.The last 2 seasons he has started most of the games and we have finished 7th and 6th-coincidence?I think not.Look at Alonsi-he tackled and worked hard but passed aswell.This guy is awful,typical Rafa signing-no guile,class or skill just hard working

He is now in my top 4 players Gerrard Suarez Kuyt Lucas, he's improved Soo much abd I think he has taken a bit of mascherano's game aswell as Alonso, he is a great passer and a great standing/sliding tackler and he can only improve, a players best years are always 24-27 and the. They start to die down a bit but yea best years ahead. I was 1 calling for chalks Adam but now I really don't think we need him Raul, Gerrard and Lucas, I don't think he'd fit in!

thanks for the video and giving lucas credit for all the work he's done this season. i was initially against him, but he has improved incredibly. he has the thankless and often unspectacular (which is why many fans don't like him) job of being holding mid and cleaning up all the mistakes others make. how can you not like the guy? he works damn hard. i have never heard him complain, ever.

In the next few years, If Lucas manages to pick up his attacking prowess and re-ignite his goal scoring threat from the Gremio days, he will be one of the most highly sought after players in the world. I'm a liverpool fan and still can't stand seeing him walk on the pitch.. he provides nothing to the game, a couple of half hearted tackles now and then and thats about it. Can't shoot, slide tackle or thread a good through ball.. I hope we replace him with Charlie adam in the summer!

@dannymawds Lucas' style is anything but "half-hearted". All season, especially in the wins against Chelsea and United he broke up play in midfield and kept the ball when others would punt it long. Adam is slow, lazy, cant tackle and wouldn't fit in to the team. Granted he can whip in the odd great free-kick and 40 yard pass, but one of the main reason for Blackpool's decline in the 2nd half of this season was him giving the ball away and not tracking back, something Lucas would never do.

if you look at the stats, lucas always has a really good pass completion rate and most of the fouls he gives away are to stop play when the opposition are attacking on the break and let the liverpool players get back into position. he has played consistently well this season and is probably the only outfield player who you can say that about! his new contract is well deserved!
