  • i wish u could see the whole of this rough cut pilot

  • @TheDEATHSTARIII /watch?v=K6RFwnujWdc

  • Thanks so much for this, it deserves a video all of its own!

  • americans ruined it

  • Meh I prefer the US version by a long shot.

  • No question which is better. One is comedy, one is a sitcom.

  • The reason why. The reason why. The reason why I had to die, did I bleed the blood of greed what was my destiny?

  • @harryjohnston14 School poem.

  • I think despite the US version being stretched out and exaggerated in many different ways, it's still one of the funniest shows on television.

  • US and UK programmes are different....''i believe we've established that'' (Partridge)....Stop comparing them just on premise of one is UK and one is US therefore.....it cant work like that. Arguments are pointless without an overriding objectional view, of which we cannot do...Why doesnt Gervais do this..hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • UK shows = more relatable and down to earth/realistic. US = shallow crap like secret life of a teenager and the hills making ppl ugly beings of narcissism and self absorption

  • @ryz86 I wouldn't tar all american shows with the same brush, and 99% of British TV is shit as well. We might be better in the long run at comedy, and there are some damn fine American ones, especially the cartoons like Archer, but I think they win hands down when it comes to TV Drama.

  • There'll be a lot of talk about UK vs US with this show. I favour UK, not just because it's the original, not just because it's much fresher and authentic (as well as cringeworthy), but because the idea of a fly-on-the-wall documentary team hanging around for any longer than a year or so is just ludicrous.

  • @spaceoreo yeah exactly to me, the US office has completely lost sight of itself (and it was never even anywhere near to this one except for the pilot episode) because in no feasible way could it be a documentary. whereas the UK one never goes into the characters houses, and is filmed alot more convincingly. and the characters are understated but still full of character, as opposed to the in-your-face US ones.

  • "One of the occupational hazards of being a laugh"

    Classic Brent!

  • @BigBagsForRent2 Boom?;)

  • @BigBagsForRent2 The clip wasn't actually shown on TV, probably because Gervais couldn't hold it together for the whole scene. Be grateful this rare outtake is actually on Youtube for you to watch. you fucking cunt.

  • @constantrhyme The "laughter of hate" monologe was most definitely in the series you FUCKING ANUS

  • @BigBagsForRent2

100% wasn't included in the series. Only as an extra.

Be wary of insulting people without doing the proper research mate. You're wrong.

  • Wheres the proper clip asshole? You should have titled the video so poeple know it's just a blooper. you fucking cunt.

  • Us British have a very broad sense of humour, I love the British version obviously, but I also love American humour such as The Big Bang Theory, American Dad, Family Guy, and Two And A Half Men. But when it comes to the Americans they only appreciate their own American Humour....

  • just to be totally awkward, i hated the British "The Office" and the American one is shit. Extras was brilliant though.

  • The look Gervais gives when he says "have a laugh at yourself please" is brilliant.

  • Why do all the comments have to be about America vs. Britain shit? This is funny. Everyone shuuuuuuuuut up. Why do we always need to compare shit against other shit?

  • I think this is from a corporate video gervais did for Microsoft, no? Not the first series of the office.

  • Ricky Gervais extremely funny and all those people beneath me are wankers.

  • classic Gervais

  • This guy just oozes funny - he's one of them!

  • Personally, I found both versions pretty much unwatchable.

I'm just gonna excuse myself to go and enjoy some British comedy that I actually like.

  • @Jcolinsol Brilliant cheers for that, think I'm gonna go and look up a television show I find unwatchable and make it known. My opinion is that important after all.

  • @mrkristoff

Well, I took a chance, I was watching a string of Peter Serafinowicz clips, and I see this video in the suggested viewing, and I thought to myself, "Maybe Ricky Gervais will be funny this time."

But no, and then there are all these people arguing over which version of the office is better, so, I thought I'd throw in my two sense. So fuck me. Go ahead and fuck me, clearly I deserve it.

  • @Jcolinsol geek dick

  • @PFplusW

    How edifying.

  • The British version is easily the best. The American version isn't funny, it's just annoying.. Ricky Gervais is the man.

    From an Australian.

  • The UK version is best .. by far. The German though is great as well.

  • the british version is more accurate to real life and thats what ricky was going for, the american version is more sitcom like.

  • i thought he was serious

  • I'm American, but I do think that British version is much better.

They are like real people. And the stories, actors and actresses are familiar to me. Every episodes are funny, and touching. Tim and Dawn are lovely.

Gareth, Tim and Dawn are funny. I did sometimes blame David, but

he was good. But Jim and Pam are... yes, they're also good, I do like them, too,

but they are not as lovely or familiar as Dawn and Tim do.

I love Ricky's laughing. He, even his laughing makes me laugh.

  • 0:24 was the first wee laugh

  • @matt65789 0:23 actually

  • i think the Indian version is better than the uk and USA versions.discuss

  • i'm Belgian, yes i know, but, i find the British version so much better! It's a lot more refined, it's got those small details that do it really. And i love Gervais's enthusiasm, and the expresions in his face, his body language, the tone in his voice... The British version, that's the original, right?! Thank You!

  • I've watched every episode of the office probably 10,000 times, I know every joke, punchline, sentence etc. by heart and it's still cracks me up everytime! If Ricky Gervais can't make you laugh you are either an American or someone with an iq lower than 50. Bless the Brits for having the best humor in the world! High 5 from the Netherlands!

  • @ivanisevic2010 Not true, Gervais is probably in my top 3 favorite comedians and guess where I live?

  • @porkymania90 Ghana?

  • @ivanisevic2010 LMAO...point taken. LOL

  • I'm American and i love both versions Steve and Ricky are both amazing comedians

  • THE USA AND THE UK ARE THE BEST PLACES TO LIVE. EVERYONE SHUT UP.

  • @shanewolfe610 Ur a dumbass

  • No wonder Ricky couldnt say it without laughing.

  • The most ridiculous thing Brent has ever said!

  • i'm american and i like both versions, can't we all just get along a let people have a difference of opinion on what they like and don't like without getting upset about it? We all like different things and that's ok, diversity is a good thing, no need to be saying which one is better whether you are american or british. Just like what you like but don't belittle what other people like as well. :-)

  • Where is this clip from?

  • @Blomsternisse The Pilot I think, back then it was called seedy boss.................

  • manmoths?

  • Anyone find it hard to follow his point without laughing?

  • Ricky Gervais is the reason why UK office is better than US office. UK is just lucky they found Ricky, because office wouldn't be anything without him. Jim from US office sucks tho. He's also a reason why US office is worse.

  • @ohedd "UK office" aren't "lucky" cause they found Ricky. Ricky, along with stephen merchant, made the office

  • Oh for fuck sake, listen, Americans think the American version is funnier because its more relative to an American audience, the British like the original better because it was aimed at the British. Done. Ricky created The Office and no one can take that away from him, he is the father of the show. But its a matter of perspective, we all love The Office whether it be the British, American, French, or fucking Israeli version, it doesn't matter. And Karl Pilkington has a head like a fucking orange

  • @ranckgarman

Don't forget Steve. Ricky gets all the praise.

  • @ranckgarman Glad someone said it (not the Karl thing, the comedy thing). Some of the early US episodes basically copied the UK version, but it's more or less just a show about an office in precarious financial position with a self-important, kind-of-an-idiot boss and the attending office "types" of the workplace. Having said that, I think the US version has gone on way too long and desperately wrung almost all the "funny" out of itself.

  • @ranckgarman FINALLY SOMEBODY GETS IT!! THANK YOU!! The truth is both shows are fantastic, but there are two differences. 1) As an American I can relate to the US version a little better (more over-the-top humor comparted to the more subtle Britcom style). 2) However, Ricky and Steve told their story and got OUT leaving me wanting more from it, whereas the US version has gone on a bit too long. Every so often a story arc hits a home run, but not too often anymore.

  • @ranckgarman I'd love to see the Israeli office.

    It'd be hilarious.

  • @ranckgarman

ROFL (at the video itself, sorry)

I'm an American citizen, but I prefer the British version by leaps and bounds. Though, that might have something to do with the fact that Ricky Gervais is the funniest man on the planet... also, Brits tend to be more dignified and have a less juvenile sense of humo(u)r.

    Also manmoth. :)

  • @ranckgarman I'm American and have to move to Britain then because the US version doesn't even make me crack a smile. This is the first version I watched and it will always be superior. It more closely mirrors a corporate environment, IMO.

  • @ranckgarman Hail Ricky Gervais and the original Office! I'm not either British or American, but fuck the American shabby remake, they are just jealous their version is absolute shit compared to the UK one. No Ricky, no Office, it's as simple as that...

  • @Skoshtwo Seriously? The UK has made remakes of American programs, just as we have done with the UK programs...basically every other country on the fucking planet has done that too.

  • @ranckgarman so that means the two can't be compared? fucking mug. the uk version is better although the us one is also hilarious. the subtle humour and gervais' genius performance means UK>US. so fuck you and your arse licking, ''desperate for likes'' comment.

  • @ranckgarman Fucking Israeli version.

  • @ranckgarman im american and the uk version is better by far imo. the usa version isnt funny in the least.

  • @ranckgarman Your comment annoyed me with the way you ended it, get out, get the fuck out. The yank one dragged it out like crazy. GET OUT!!!

  • @ranckgarman Gotta disagree. The BBC version is flat out better. I know, lots of my fellow Americans like the US one better, but the original is such a subtle, complete, well-paced work of art that they really aren't in the same class. Just the background action and the way they play with the documentary concept (Brent's constant showing off, Tim's exasperated looks to the cameraman) make it SO much funnier and more rewarding, especially on repeat viewings. Plus it didn't drag on FOREVER.

  • @garmonbozia318 I agree, as a Brit who can fully appreciate Curb Your Enthusiasm without the need for a “British” version of it. I'm somehow capable of the immense feat of comprehending subtleties of two different cultures at once.

  • @garmonbozia318

The original version will always be the superior one no matter how many series the US one continues to run. It's just pure genius and just the 2 series format was perfect. Any more and it would spoil its greatness. They did it right with Extras, Coogan did it right with Partridge, Rik Mayall & Ade did it right with the Young Ones and Bottom (to be fair the 3 and final series of Bottom was its worst).

  • @dillinjaesc lol young ones & bottom are hardly in gervais'/coogan's league but yeah. Needless to say Partridge had a huge influence on the office but both are equally genius

  • @garmonbozia318 its a one of a kind comedy. so unique and so bloody well played. amazing watch. Its a very different kind of funny to anything iv every watched. just all round amazing

  • @garmonbozia318 That's your opinion

  • @guitarhero0000 And a very, VERY good opinion.

  • @JinRenegade Again, opinion.

  • @guitarhero0000 Atleast he's provided an argument to his opinion, I don't see any good arguments like his explaining why the American version of The Office is better. That makes a good opinion a good opinion, better than just saying "Your opinion, derp".

  • @garmonbozia318 False, Black Bear.

  • @garmonbozia318 I don't understand why everyone needs to compare the two. US Office isn't essentially a remake (US Pilot aside), it's a different kind of Sitcom based in an office of a paper company with the same name and similar character dynamics. Same as the Simpsons & Family Guy have the same dynamic it doesn't make them the same show. Why can't people just enjoy the US Office and UK Office as separate and equally brilliant shows?

  • @joeboyle1987 i just dont understand why they do it, life on mars was excellent UK series and US did the exact same thing remake it with slight changes / different actors. i think americans hear a different accent and immediately dont give a show a shot (not everyone just the ignorant majority) i thinks its an attitude towards media from other nations rather than to do with the shows themselves. Im from australia and i always prefer british shows but some reason our networks show US garbage

  • @ryz86 its a completely different culture, they don't react the same way as we do in many social situations so they need a dfferent version. Glad to here you colonials still have a sense of humour though. jkjk

  • @Thr89ust i dont know why but ive always been British bias :P they just seem to be more down to earth, fun & their humor makes u laugh just a little bit more :P probably why all my long term relationships have been with British women

  • @ryz86 Oi hands off!!! :p

  • @garmonbozia318 Yeah, it really goes to show humor taste differences between the two nations. I'm from Canada and I love them both, hard to compare because the wit and humor is completely different in both.

  • @garmonbozia318 I think the original BBC version is unbeatable but then the US version found it's feet, is nearly as good and there's a ton of it.

I'm really pleased we have both :)

  • @garmonbozia318 The UK-series has the authentic mockumentary-feel whereas the american series has evolved to more of a straight out comedy series, I feel they're too different to even compare as the serie is atm.

  • @garmonbozia318 I'm an American and I was a fan of the original Office far longer, since I'd say about 75% of the TV media I consume is from over there. There's no fucking doubt the original is better, because the American one took out the darkness and despair, the futility of having to work in a shithole office. It was so right on, and so poorly reproduced in the American one. The USA Office cranked up the "whackiness" and it lost the originality of the series.

  • @ranckgarman yeah but british version is better

  • @rockermanmatt I tried to read it, but your higher intellect from watching better comedy makes it difficult for me, a lesser being, to understand. Sorry!!

  • Ricky Gervais is great, but I always wish Stephen Merchant would get more recognition. He has that classic British humor, which makes the original Office so great.

  • @rockermanmatt Thanks for explaining the higher law of comedy to me, hopefully one day I will get it and like the 'right' comics' to be considered intelligent like you :)

  • @rockermanmatt I get it! You are much more intelligent and mature than me because of your opinions on comedy. Thankyou for showing me the light.. ..Just one thing, could you pls send me the scientific proof that those 3 are funnier than Gervais, just so that I can learn how to like the right sort of comedy in the future and avoid this confusion...thanks in advance!

  • king of the world

  • @rockermanmatt Well I am 38 and I find Gervais hilarious and those 3 unfunny. I guess its just opinions, they are like arseholes - everybody has one.

  • have a laugh at yourself please

  • Why do things always get funnier when you try not to laugh.

Had to laugh in a co-workers face the other day...tried so hard not to...it just got worse.

  • @rockermanmatt His standup is the funniest I have ever seen

  • @rockermanmatt I'm not saying your opinion's wrong. I was just making sure you knew it was a joke rather than his actual character. But fair enough. :)

  • @rockermanmatt The exaggeration and ego is all to troll people like you. The whole facade is a joke.

  • @rockermanmatt

He's exactly the same now, he was exactly the same before The Office; his humour comes from exactly the same place. If you think the exaggerated egotistical prick he is now is really him, you should listen to the XFM back catalogue, the podcasts, and everything hes done with Karl Pilkington. That should cure your developing case of Missing The Joke syndrome.

  • oh ricky i LOVE YOU!! LONG LIVE RICKY GERVAIS. ONE OF THE BEST BRITONS OF OUR AGE.

  • possibly one of the funniest things i've ever seen

  • "Have a laugh at yourself please".. fucking priceless!

The Gervais can do no wrong! ..(Even when he goes wrong!)

  • @TheRowlandstone73 and the face he makes when he says it!

  • @TheRowlandstone73 Kinda like Chuck Norris in that way, isn't he?

  • i like ricky but he had copied alan partridge alot plus many other things

  • 1:12 the sad face of brent cracks me up

  • 100th favourited video!

  • LOL

  • I think this was the rough draft of Judd Apatow's Producers Guild Awards hosting whinge about Ricky at the Globes...

  • i didn't understand what was so funny

  • " No,that won't help "

  • this was for the pilot and they knew how funny it was and they were gunna make it big :D

  • love that the guy who uploaded this still thinks its a documentary.

  • @te4mwellbuff You realise he meant the documentary on the DVD right?

  • is this all improvised? lol

  • @ohdoshutit1

No! That's why it's genius work: It's totally scripted but it seems improvised!

  • @luarionte @ohdoshutit1 Actually this part here WAS improvised as this was very early on. Later on in the actual series though you're right, that was all scripted but was done brilliantly. :P

  • @luarionte i know the show is scripted, i meant this particualr bit, which looks improvised.

  • He is actually quite handsome..I don't know why he thinks he is a short fat little snub nosed man. That face is beautiful! :)

  • But DONT make the mistake of... the laughter of hate

  • fucking hell he's a genius. I think watching him act like David Brent is like watching a perfect piece of art. Such a legend!

  • have a laugh at yourself, please!

  • ricky gervaise believes in GOD..just not the God of Religion.

  • @KillinDaWelfareMCs He's an atheist...

  • @KillinDaWelfareMCs

Listen to any of the podcasts or read any of his blog/WSJ piece and you'll see he's clearly an atheist who believes in no gods.

  • Merchant never gets as much credit as Gervais, although he is the funnier of the two in my opinion (based on Gervais's solo stuff...)

  • @PhilBradshaw90 I think both of them are funny, merchant is definitely the unsung hero of the two though.

  • I wonder if Americans ever read the comments of other Americans on YouTube and think "God, it's no wonder people think we ARE a nation of wankers".

  • @JanineRobin No American thinks "wankers".

  • @JanineRobin nope, cause after the london riots i realized there's the same kinds of douchebags in Britain as there are in America.

  • @HexicNexus only us American d-bags whipped their asses and kicked them out in 1776 lol-and they're still sore about it!!

  • @Clintbdee they have a better word than D bags, it's called a chav, and there seems to be no shortage of them in america

  • @Clintbdee 1812... look who razed the White house. Guess they don't teach that in schools there :)

  • @studas2011 Look who won the war of 1812....

  • @Clintbdee Treaty. It's not like any side was beaten.

  • @Clintbdee Happy 9/11 anniversary. I dont know about you, but here in england Ill be having a party.

  • @karicshnakof Happy Anniversary?? Please don't tell me that you could ever be happy enough to celebrate the deaths of 3000 people.

  • @karicshnakof your an asshole

  • @karicshnakof no response?

  • @Clintbdee Im sorry, It seemed like a rhetorical question. The reason I dont give a fuck about 9/11 is that your country kills so many more innocent people than any terrorists, the difference is that it is funded by the government. Remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki, over 200,000 people died then and their ancestors are still affected today. How Many innocent civilians have died in Iraq by American hands?

  • @karicshnakof ignorant twat

  • @JanineRobin No need. They are our family members so we can't help but see it all our lives.

  • @JanineRobin what does that have to do with this clip at all? and why are you so obsessed with putting down americans? i get it, our government is shit- but what the fuck have AMERICANS, as a nation of over 300 million (not some stupid tourist or something) ever done to you? if you really think we're all just wankers then why the fuck did you take the time out of your life to write a comment about it on a clip on youtube? just leave it, it's mean-spirited and pathetic.

  • @JanineRobin Yes. Yes we do. *sighs* Why does my country fail?

  • @JanineRobin

ALL the time. though I also think "god why does everyone assume every stupid commenter is an american?" and "wow I didn't know people this stupid actually existed on earth".

so the image isn't entirely fair

  • @NoTrueFace1 Pssst. It tells you what nationality the commenter is in their profile. It doesn't need to be assumed.

  • @MissTeeRee

and yet it often is. I have multiple times seen someone write an idiot off as american just because they were an idiot. I checked the profiles and this was not true.

  • This gesture I just can't have enough of it! 1:11

I have rewinded it so many times and it cracks me up everytime!

  • @thingschange87

Agreed. The American version is cheesy and unrealistic.

  • Why was this pilot never released!?

  • this is not from the office

search - The Office Values - Microsoft UK Training with David Brent 1

  • fucking americans stay at mcdonalds so us english people who understand comedy can enjoy this masterpiece in peace.

  • "Have a laugh at yourself please" LOL

  • the laughter of HATE!

  • HLAFOrange!! Brilliant!

  • I would really want to see Steve's face when Ricky is talking.!

  • Karl Pilkington has a head like a f***ing orange.

  • Ricky actually has really nice features....x

    and this is hilarious xD

  • First time I saw this on the DVD, I fell over and hit my head, I was laughing so hard.

  • ricky office show and steve cartell office show is a lot a like, but ricky is more funnier.

  • by the way, ricky does it sooo well, hes so natural and convinving. better than the yank

  • ??? hahah uk version is sooo much fuckin better without a DOUBT

  • God this is on the office....I couldn't stop laughing when i saw this!!! xoxo

  • Carell ain't bad but he's a pale shadow of ricky's subtlety and timing
