I'm a huge death metal and grindcore fan. The first time I heard Beirut, it was the song Carousels, and from then on I went out and bought every album. Beirut gave me a whole new outlook on life. Thank you Beirut, your music cured my depression.
@funnyguitarplayer As a matter of fact it is on Jacques Brel's inspiration, as Zach Condon has said, he, the Grand Jacques is the common inspiration to both Beirut and Yann Tiersen -- I love him TOO :)
Words cannot explain how beautiful and amazing this song is. The cullmination of feelings and emotions I get from this song are uncomparable to any other song I have ever heard, (except almost every other Beirut song :) Thank you Zach Condon for being AMAZING!
@WildCard761 It wouldn't be unusual because I know that Johnny Depp is a fan of Gypsy music and he's friends with Taraf De Haiduks, so one could assume that he probably would like Beirut, considering their influences.
What a talented group these guys are. They all seem to know their parts...definately experienced musicians. I can see them keeping up the beat. Love it!
@sarahgateaux Yesss, I agree! Beirut's main violinist is Owen Pallett who heads the now self-named band 'Final Fantasy'. He also plays for Arcade Fire. Not sure if you've heard of him or not but if you're also familiar with Joanna Newsom, you'll be most likely to love his cover of 'Peach Plum Pear'.
If I had to guess, I'd say its a flugel horn he plays, but I'm not entirely sure. Functionally they're the same, if you can play trumpet you can play flugel. As far as if brass instruments are hard to play? They're easier to start than some instruments, but hard to master. If you care to learn, I'd really suggest taking formal lessons though at least in the beginning, its very easy to develop 'bad' habits in that will hold you back later as you progress if you don't have someone advising.
It's cool because, if you ever think, as a kid "I want to be a musician" or "I want to be in a band" you kind of immediately limit your instruments to guitar, drums, bass, maybe some keys. But not these guys. It's cool, I'm happy for them because people who play the trumpet in their high school band don't really think of doing something like this in the future would be possible. I bet they never thought they'd end up here. It's cool. I need to listen to more Beirut. I only know like two songs.
I love this song to death! You guys need to drop us the lyrics. . . it's so indecipherable, which, as you will have it though, is kinda what makes it awesome lol

Hey Beirut Lovers. If you like to hear some new and rare stuff from Zach & Co you should check out my channel. I have uploaded a lot of rare songs and amazing live-versions. Enjoy!
Fanfarlo are plagiarizers: of Beirut, Okkervil River, and Arcade Fire, in my opinion. Brit-pop is dead, and now everyone's copying North American indie bands.
i believe it's called a "flugelhorn" (which means, "wing-horn" in German). I've seen them used in marching bands quite a lot. Such a cool song. Such a cool band. Such a cool horn!!!
If I heard Beirut's music 30 years ago, or 20 or 10, it would sound like it belonged. It really is timeless, beautiful and frankly just different from anything out there; and I salute them for that.

Quanto ao video, sou totalmente suspeita pra falar já que admiro o trabalho do Beirut. Só de saber que talvez dia 11/09 eles vão dá um passada pelo o Brasil dá até frio na barriga rs
This is one of my favourite songs by Beirut. I absolutely love these videos that are made, with the band playing it live. It's so fantastic, showing that each person has their own talent at an instrument and when combined in a group it sounds simply beautiful, amazing, and extremely brilliant.
Beirut remains to be one of my ultimate favourite bands due to the creativity of the music. And the voice of the singer.
