I've done this...3 times now. My girlfriend noticed for the first time yesterday after i did it noticably shorter than the last few. At first she laughed at me for doing it myself, but admits that it looks fine. If embarassed/self-conscious, it will shut them up if you tell them you've done it before without them noticing. My hair is very similar to the guy in the video's in terms of thickness and curliness.

I like how you think. This is the best hair cutting video I've found yet.

If you have very fine straight hair I recommend combing the top and front away from the sides and making sure that hair isn't caught up in what you grab on the sides. This was my one mistake and left a bit of my bangs shorter than I would have wanted after it was caught up in what I cut on the side.

Hey thanks!! I watched your vid and kind of 'got the gist of it' right away and cut my own hair tonight and it turned out great!! Even better than I get at a salon or wherever. My hair is fairly straight and the trick to getting the best cut is to pull and twist smallish chunks and cut them all the same length, just be meticulous and make sure you go all the way round use the same grab i cut mine wet into the sink, hanging on to each chunk and dropping it in then scoop them out afterwards.

Yo dude- i needed to get my hair shorter. (I seriously needed to bo to a barber.) Anyway- i didn't have the money or the time for it, because i needed the cut for the morning. Do you know, how painful it is to put a gas mask on your head with a lot of hair? XDXDXD. Youtube is like an enciclopedia for every thing :D. Just type how to... . It worked great. I just did this and it worked great! I have thick black hair & basically the same length as the person in the video, but it worked great. I didn't blowdry it but I just dried it with my towel, & it worked fine for me. Just remember less is more. Overall a great cut, Go easy on the sideburns though, I might have cut a little bit much, but still ok. Great video.

I have straight blond hair (shows any bad cuts) and used this technique it worked awesome i took my time though and had to re wet the hair once but shit it looks better than about half the cuts I'd get at a salon and it was free!!! Just make sure to take your time and be stingy on your cuts. less is safer you can always cut more later. the back was tricky but like I said it looks great!!!!!

It totally isn't worth it to go to a barber or salon if they always end up turning your head into a helmet and you end up paying 20 dollars for something which screws up your social interaction for 2 weeks. When I did this, I thought of it perfunctorily: just get rid of the grabbing, occluding, snagging hazard your head is presenting itself. You could just print out a picture of a certain hairstyle you like and see if they can do it. I've tried cutting my own hair once and I will never be doing that again. It's something that takes lots of practice, and I would rather pay $12 for a professional to do it right the first time, then try and fail several times for me to do it myself.

I buzz-cut my own hair for a year at college 2003-2004, but then have had it longer (shoulder length) and am going to keep it scissor short length. cheers. i like not having to go to a salon to cut nails. same should be with hair! @LordJummy This is going to sound metro, but I started blow drying my hair before I started cutting it, because my hair would dry and frizz. I considered that the towel was stripping my hair of its oils. However, you can lightly dry it with a towel, which I actually did for the video in the bathroom.

@tryingsomethingne My hair is either curly or really wavy, so I cut it when my head starts looking like a mushroom. I don't really know how straight haired guys are going to look afterwards, but blowdrying first is the key to floofing it all out for cutting it evenly.
