Less restrictive than stock, but enough back-pressure to keep the torque. Re-jetting the carb was required after I added the K&N airbox. All in all I'm pleased as I can be.
thanks for the demo of the roadhouse dualy. that's a great sound. i was wondering if you were going to show us some throttle--was thinking maybe it sounds crappy when rev ving faster. i'd like to hear more of the dualy with faster rev ving. anyway, excellent vid.
Sounds great. I know it makes you smile every time you ride! I have an '07 Silverado, all stock. Needless to say it doesn't sound anything like yours.
Honestly, it depends on your level of ability and physical size. Obviously they're not small bikes so you really need the strength to muscle it around a bit until you get the skill to make it work for you. I'd suggest taking the MSF course to get your feet wet and learn the basics. Then you should better be able to make up your mind.
It was my first bike in over 20 years, but I'd also had a few years of experience prior.
As far as I know the pipes fit every year except 2008 and that's because that bike is fuel injected instead of carborated. I've heard that the folks at Roadhouse are making some for the FI bikes with an oxygen sensor built into them.
Roadhouse is the company that makes dualies for the RoadStar. I have the single-side Roadhouse pipes. Either is a good choice. They sound excellent give you good compression so you won't lose HP.
Harley's have nothing on these Road Stars, beautiful bikes with beautiful sound!

Sound is actually more mellow and LESS loud if the revs are sustained at a higher rate.
If you really get on the throttle from a stop, then the sound can be really loud. Otherwise the sound is as you heard in the video.

Such a beautiful bike, and that is the best sound I ever heard :)

So if you've got a 99 you should be good.

Do you have baffles installed here?

Yes, they are exactly as they come from Road House. No alteration at all.
