I watched this movie last week on ESPN in Australia. It affected me in a profound way. I was so touched that I could hardly speak when telling my wife about it. My deepest respect for Terry Fox, and congratulations to the filmmakers who have produced an absolute masterpiece.
Betty Fox, Terry's Mom has just passed away. It was sad news to hear. It sucks big time that Terry had to die when he did, but in the end I guess we'll always remember him as forever young.
Growing up my dad always talked fondly about Steve Prefontaine and how great a competitor and runner he was. Terry Fox is another great runner that has inspired me
@awesomelysweet2442 Yeah, I watched it on TSN, its a great documentary, I've seen a few on Terry Fox and imo this is the most detailed and well done. Steve nash did a great job with this watch. tsn. ca/espn-30-for-30/clip353850#clip353850
I am a Canadian who often rips my country. We are a somewhat flawed nation, maybe not so much as every other country on earth, but I often find ways to criticize how things work here because, I live here and it's what I know.
But this story is ingrained deep in my heart, as it should be in all Canadians, and it has always made me the proudest I have ever been of our great country.
He is the quintessential Canadian. As a side note, I understand all your points, but it must be put into context and not just Quebecers are "assholes", and they're so "ignorant". You can point out flaws in all cultures. I would like to point out since that since this grave mistake on our part; we have raised some of the largest sums on record. We understood our egregious oversight and to this day continue to try to honour this brave young man. I am ashamed that this happened.
I saw the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary on Terry Fox. And as a kid, I saw the Terry Fox Story on HBO back in the 80's. Terry Fox is my hero. This guy literally kicked ass when he ran 3000 plus miles across Canada.
its very typical of quebec not to care about anyone or anything outside of there province, so why would they care about the greatest canadian EVER. Quebec hows it feel to be the only peice of land in north america who simply didnt care and have atv's try to run terry off the road?. Quebec is contantly compaining about the other provinces, there so IGNORANT.
@likespaintball Sort of true - Quebecers are generally assholes and everybody knows it - but bear in mind that there was no social media in those days and with the language barrier, the french probably didn't even know Terry was doing this. Plus 1980 was the time of the first referendum and anti-Canadian sentiment was probably at it's highest ever.
@manhattan85 I just hate how when i go to the states and they ask me where im from and i tell them canada. There response is "Oh so you can speak french" and im like NO. And some have actually got confused because some have thought we all speak french. If quebec wasn't part of canada they wouldnt think that. I dont consider quebec to be part of canada. Im in corrections and because there not willing to have the same laws as us it creates massive problems.
@likespaintball I don't hate French Canadians or French people either. I love going to Montreal and Quebec. But a small group of them make the rest of them seem like a bunch of whining malcontents. Like seriously, who starts a f*#@ing political debate over the Canadiens not having enough francophones on their team? These sort of people are the bane of Canada's existence.
@manhattan85 Yah i think they bring politics into sports way to much. A woman in Office for quebec was complaining saying the captian of the habs should be a fluently speaking french canadian, I dont think she should care and wonder if she even watches the game. They also said street sighns in our provinces should have french included, last time i want to quebec i couldnt read there street sighns because they where in french so maybe they should add english.
Im a young 26 yr old young man from Brooklyn. I never knew of Terry Fox until I saw his documentary on ESPN (9-28-10). As much as Ive enjoyed all the 30 for 30 movies this was by far the most heartbreaking yet inspiring to watch. You want to talk about courage and strength? He was so young, tough to see him cry as a young man. Cried with him. Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. Terry Fox is both. An example for all of us no matter what race but I see why Canadiens are so proud of him.
Truly truly truly inspiring I was really touched by his story. He made me proud to be a human being period with the courage and strength he displayed. I'll truly never forget about him from this day on.
@NeoNitty Thanks, that mean's a lot. I think what endeared him so much to Canadians is that he was one of our own and it was staggering to see just how much of a normal kid he was. In Terry I think we saw qualities that we identified with as "Canadian" and qualities that we all wanted to possess. The unfortunate thing is that with Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian and this new "me first" generation those are qualities we've gotten away from.
@smackyo Your welcome. Its all good @ the end of the day,let those girls do what they do,thats on them you know? But I'll say one thing if I ever get the chance to visit Canada I'd like to go see his statute. But, on another note I know there's alot of "me first" ppl out there, particularly out here in America(trust me I know lol) but I have alot of respect and admiration for you guys up in Canada so it's nothing but respect. Peace.
I wish I could have seen him run. I saw Rich Hansen who carried on his dream when I was living in Red Deer. I remember getting up at 5:00 in the morning to see him wheel through. Inspiring, and I will never forget it. Terry Fox Greatest Canadian.
He embodied everything that makes a person a hero... He was an underdog -- an amputee living with cancer, an extremely passionate and altruistic individual, who gave his all just to help others... Today I take this opportunity to pay homage to a personal hero of mine, and a true Canadian legend, Terry Fox... Rest in peace man.
Mr. Terry Fox: one of the greatest Canadians ever. Didn't do it for fame, monetary reward but did it for the right reasons and for that, his legacy will live on.
this is the best one ever it is more sadder then the other ones rip terry :(

We have a Terry Fox marathon in Croatia, ever single year. Thousands of people show up. You can't help but to admire a spirit like Fox's.

Nobody considers Quebec assholes. Does anyone ask why Newfoundlanders didn't support him?
Newfoundlanders were amazingly helpful on September 11th.
On this occasion the Quebecois, missed.
Oops, I see, you were arguing about , ummm I think it's the language a hockey player speaks.
That's a long way from Terry Fox.
