  • Got to say, this is a great sounding section above middle G, shame that when they play below they're overly bright and tacky sounding....

  • very good

  • This Is Called The Chauffeur?

  • I WANT THE MUSIC FOR THIS SO BADLY!

  • 1:21 Buddy Rich would totally scream about that hold. Nice chops though.

  • kekeisso???

  • Hah the guy on the far right is just there to play high notes.

  • @MrPartybar Thats the point of a Lead Trumpet!

  • @MrPartybar haha I noticed that too.

  • Nearly completely devoid of musicality, but a some impressive trumpet pyrotechnics mixed in there.

  • @eysikal meh... who needs musicality when you have one guy playing double A's?

    Sigh...

  • @OuT2Th3l4sT

You're right, what was I thinking? That makes it all better. Also, light show guy, huh?

  • @eysikal

Not anymore, grew outta that stuff :P

  • @eysikal no, no, no there is loud louder loudest and really fucking loud......excuse my french but i marched corp and i had to watch their shows over and over and over and they got old they were impressive back in the 90's

  • NOSSA HUMILHARAM A GENTE TRUMPETISTAS........MUITO BOM!!

  • stoopid marchin band

  • What the hell could s.o. don't like at this?

  • yeah its ok

  • mmmm. i'll stick with NTC ensembles.

  • lol, everybody is just waiting to see what that short little badass is gonna scream next lololol

  • man you can hear the overtone on the last chord above the note of the lead trumpet!

  • the screamer's sole purpose in the octet is to scream his head off hahaha, i enjoyed this thoroughly. BLOOOOOOUUUUUUU :D

  • @Forevahhs Hey you know that the whole “Bluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuue!” thing is a Bluecoats thing right?

  • @OpulentRedrum i feel a rush of stupidity

  • @Forevahhs no. bluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuue! is a bluecoats not blue devils

  • i feel bad for whoever is sitting right infront of the guy all the way on the right...

  • i play the trumpet but damn so many of you come here tryina teach on youtube. its youtube. shut the fuck up and listen to BD kill shit, if you were any good a teacher you wouldnt be doing it here, you'd have a job.

  • The piece may be confusing to the ears but that guy on the far right has an amazing embouchure!!!! Man that is a crisp sound!!

  • he can get up there but his ascending slurs suck! and this ensemble kinda sucks because they are not playing together. kinda hurts my ears. but kudos to the lead player. In my opinion, this is just a very awkward piece...

  • @robocavie06 the slur is supposed to sound like that...just thought you ought to know...

  • jizz

  • i can do tht... on a good day aha

  • holy watering balls.

  • I<3The Guy on the right :)

  • Those high notes go right to my testicles

  • is every blue devils a screamer? lol

  • These guys are slurring UP nd SCREAMING!!!! If you do not understand how incredibly challenging that is then you obviously don't play a brass instrument.

  • i love the one screamer lol that's great

  • I'm sure that each of these guys has a ton of talent, but the arrangement just sounds... weird.

  • Now that's what DCI is all about! I wish I could play like that. Haha. Maybe some day.

  • I mean im sure they played everything perfect, i just absolutely HATE the song.

  • I like how the only tag on this video is "large" haha.

  • is the guy at the one of those guys who cant play a high note to save his life but his high notes are mindblowing??

  • The people who disliked this are woodwind players.

  • @SoccerTrumpet350Z

I'm hardcore diehard clarinet but I still like this d:

  • oh lord gave me goosebumps toward the end wow that guys is screaming

  • 1:22, i dont care who you are but i hate when screamers are told to hold over....

  • @who8mahbacon Then you would definitely hate the 70s-80s DCI sopranos.

  • @who8mahbacon prob because you're jealous you can't do it...?

  • @l0v35tik who wants to make squeaking noises come out of a trumpet. it not even hard all you need is air pressure. i could fart one of those notes

  • @who8mahbacon screw u you obviously have no idea how a trumpet works. its alot more than air pressure you have no idea how hard that would be. only someone who doesnt apprecieate music would criticize that

  • @username669966 how a trumpet works? i dont think you do. without air there is no note. in order to change notes in different partials you change the air speed. higher notes require more air speed.

  • @who8mahbacon hah, get back to me on that after you play double C's consistently...

  • @who8mahbacon then get the music and play the upper upper lead trumpet part for this and record it and out on youtube!

  • @who8mahbacon yeah im sure you could since your talking out your ass right now

  • BD trumpets all day, everyday<3

  • Hot damn....These boys are amazing..... O.o What's the name of the peice they're playing? I got that it was composed by Jeff Richman but i didn't catch the name

  • was that a triple c at the end

  • id envy the screamer, if he could crescendo, he just blows his brains out

  • is the screamer at the end just there to be a badass or what?

  • the guy at the end is a badass the entire group is but the screamers 0_o

  • @kingrhun

seem to have taken to heart. Not only all the aforementioned, but I never said it was bad music, i was merely pointing out what i found wrong with the video ( the list of things done right would have been too long ); Is that not what the comment section is for? Commenting on the video? I love screaming trumpet, or I wouldn't have been watching a Blue Devils video in the first place, and I gave these guys their props, as well as the video a like. Think before you type next time.

  • @kingrhun

Okay, thank you for your opinion, and thank you for falsifying and inflating my statement. I was merely giving what I thought of the video, much as you just did with my comment, though mine was slightly less vulgar and unnecessary. I never said that music was limited to my tastes, nor did I ever imply or concede to having a doctorate in music; in fact, I gave a disclaimer saying that I was a high school trumpet player and that my comment was to be made of as you wish, a liberty you

  • Outrageous strength with inscrutible malice.

You guys are definitely going to Heaven..

  • Extremely impressive in terms of range and volume, but otherwise not great. It was a bunch of ragged, noisy chords with the one dude on the end screaming like crazy. That's all fine and well, but noisy, loud, and high, as much as our trumpet egos tell us otherwise, does not make music, regardless of how awesome it may be. This is coming from a high school trumpet player, so make of the comment what you will, but it's what my band director would have said, and he's a great director.

  • @MHSTrumpetLine STFU! music is not limited to your likings, and what is quiet an in complete harmony with your ears, these boys are some beast and your band director probably does not agree with you. Shit Head! Who the fuck gave you a Doctorate Degree in Music.

  • wow. there are some pretty shitty tones in the low trumpets.

  • @inf1nity Just bad acoustics in the room.

  • @inf1nity deal with it, your not a judge.

  • its always the small ones who scream on the trumpet...

  • ha 69 likes

  • 8 woodwinds have watched this video

  • @GodKid20 Hey! I'm a woodwind, and I thought this was the tits. I can still appreciate good music despite which instrument it comes from.

  • @GodKid20 As a woodwind (alto saxophone, specifically) I resent that; it doesn't take a brass player to know good music.

  • Can anybody understand what the title of the song is? I understand everything up to "....original piece by Jeff Richman entitled..." and then he sort of mumbles :/

  • @Guitarhero617 the ShowJo

    because Scott Johnson = ScoJo

  • @Guitarhero617 something the show tune.

thats what i got from it. haha

  • Asian screamo man! What mouthpiece are you playing on?

  • @bluetagglamis91 it's a 6a4a

  • this reminds me of BD 93 show

  • gotta love haters by the way...screaming was nice and more importantly its a blast to do it

  • crazy asians man....good work

  • FITCHAF --- Fit in the chord high as f .......

  • FITCHAF.... staff paper says nothing but fit in the chord high as F&%K

  • So they annoucned it as an octet...sounds like 7+1 and I would take the grove players and give them all the created. Cool piece, could have done without "the guy"

  • That guy plays high really well. Otherwise, that was pretty underwhelming.

  • Tasteless screaming does not count as musicality. Especially if it is out of tune.

  • does anyone else see the guy with the madison scouts jacket? cause it made me lol

  • OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • love the rings

  • All i can say is AWSOME!!!!!

  • Can I have this hseet music please????? please??????? Dont say it doesnt exist. They are reading it.. Please

  • guy on the very right.. idk his name though cuz i play drums and thats who i pay attention to more , but i love brass instruments still lol

  • Who the hell is the screamer at the end? Damn these guys are wicked. If only I were under the age of 21.

  • Comment removed

  • oh yes.

  • oh fuck ya'll got a screamer... yall do yall thing

  • @Rainbowexquisite

well, they are the blue devils

  • where can I find an arrangement for this for my college buddies?

  • crazy ass bend @ :53

  • very nice. and for all who dont know, you have to be between the ages of 16-20 to be in DCI. so this is amazing skill for that age. hope im up there one day.

  • I don't mean to sound rude dude but get your facts straight.

The max age for DCI is 21 years old... and there virtually is no minimum age limit, my little brother is the the Blue Devils C corps and he's 10 I know someone who has been apart of the Blue Devils organization for as long as i've been alive and im 17...

  • @blasterboy2007 Sounds like YOU need to get YOUR facts straight. Maximum age to march in a DCI junior corps is 22 if you have a lucky birthday

  • 128doe, you can join the Cascades at 14 or 15 depending on early in the season you sign up.

  • you shouldn't have to defend yourself vic

Ask anybody who has ever marched with him, and they'll tell you that his high range is only a supplement to his other abilities on the trumpet. If anybody is angry about this video, be upset at the arranger and not at the trumpet player that played balls loud really high, and did it well.

  • i dont know vic, but i have played with bd, in 99 and 2000, was lead... played next to jeff lynn at clayton valley in 2000. i know a thing or 2 about playing trumpet, i have seen players with great range, but crappy technical skills, and crappy tone quality, in staff, and above stuff, but sound great in the double octave range. like mark van cleave says... "high notes are part of the music business, not the trumpet business" meaning the ultimate goal is to make music, not to play high

  • @asmcriminaL I mean sometimes in here the high notes do sound a bit bad, but yet listen to Maynard Ferguson. He was really well known in the jazz world, known for his chops, still made it sound musical. And BD (by what I know, base their shows off jazz). just listen to that and make a comparrison.

  • Wonder what G horns would have sounded like? ... Old BD? ... (Great job, but it sounded like a college jazz ensemble, to me)

  • hey guys, i literally played what was on the page . can't we just get long ?? :)

  • @victora2007

    1:20

    Now that's just excess.

  • @victora2007 hey could i get the sheet music? or do i have to buy it or somthing, cuz i totally would lol...i love this piece

  • Nobody denies the talent that guy has, but the screaming gets so freaking annoying.

  • ok..i believe you @jts5032 but i wouldnt not like to just scream double b's all day. yes i would scream of course. but i would want to play more as well.

  • I know that guy personally and let me tell you...he plays what's put in front of him. That's the part they gave him and he nailed it. Put a 3rd trumpet part in front of him, and he'll nail it just as well.

    Well done Victor!

  • @tydypony93 im not jealous of his range. Screaming is really cool. But too much is annoying and only playing high notes sucks in my opinion because I would feel like they are using me just for my range. You may not see the bad in that but I want to be an all around great trumpet player. Not just a screamer.

  • @trumpetkidd0 You know what else his mom is saying? "My kid only needs 4 notes to show how much he is better than you." Just because you're jealous of someones range doesn't give you the right to dis 'em.

  • I bet the screamer on the far right's mom is very proud of him.... "look at my baby, he can play 4 notes!!"

  • I heard this guy play all summer. Trust me, he can play almost anything with great tone, great technique, and great musicality. He's one of the most talented musicians I've ever met. And he's humble about it. And that's not all he did "all day." his book was pretty well rounded.

  • @trumpetkidd0 Range takes more balls and hard work to build than musicality. That's a proven fact.

  • @VagueTheory I've actually found the opposite, Range takes nore stamina than musicallity, but I haven't fount it particularly difficult to build range. Intonation, especially combined with speed is far more difficult then range. Al you need for range is buzz air and pressure. It takes much longer to develop the rest. Any instructor will tell you to build musicality before range. Or maybe I'm just lucky.

  • @pvtcairns Hmmm...I guess it's different for different people. I find it easier to build musicality than to build range, honestly. For musicality, I just work on stuff (i.e, intonation, tone, hard licks, etc.) over and over again until I'm satisfied. It's all about rinsing and repeating. For me anyway. Range takes a while longer for me. It takes so much more different aspects of practicing. (Lip muscles, air speed, air support, etc.) There are more musicality people than screamers out there IMO.

  • I wonder what the lead's sheet music looks like. "Play high here...Play high here...SCREAM!!!!"

  • So the vid can be summed up as, "look how high one of our leads can play"

  • the guy on the right doesn't even play until he has to hit a high note lol

  • Welcome to BD.

  • but he's amazing

  • Their tone is a little stale for the tame sections (like the very very beginning) but then it gets awesome when they get to wail.

  • god the trumpeter on the far right is amazing!

    double g's

  • and C's!!! lol

  • I feel sorry for the people standing next to the leads.

  • Are you kidding? That's where I'd want to be.

  • i marched with victor, hes actually a really nice guy who happens to be a really good trumpet player.

  • uh huh... lol

  • hahah i was there i watched that. amazing

  • are dynastys good horns? never even knew dynasty made trumpets.

  • good for playing loud maybe

  • They're good for drum corps. They provide a darker tone, at least than some other brands. As far as I know.

  • really? Actually somebody asked for peoples opinions on dynasty trumpets, so I take it that means he does care what I think. I hope you know I was talking about the trumpets not the players

  • just to clarify, im talking about the trumpets theyre playing on not the group. I think they soudn great

  • Oh my bad lol

  • I don't really like this too much, he just kinda sat around played something high and stopped.. and the 2nd lead was allll over himself. I don't know.. too much screaming for such a blah piece....

  • are u talkin bout victor the last guy to the right?

  • mhm

  • yea he is a lil cocky bastard lol

  • Comment removed

  • crown doesn't generally play too high in their shows though, even though they usually have screamers

  • Actually it does... 22 of them

  • man these guys are excellent!! hats off to victor for the g a to double b..thats how its fuckin done!!! 13..wiith over 3 double c's...raw..

  • who is the guy who screams?

  • VICTOR

  • Great piece Jeff- way to go!

  • is one of those guys Jared Bailey?

  • Jared aged out in 2008, so nope

  • its pretty awesome knowing that he was in my high school band a few years ago and then he was 2nd chair Blue Devils!!!

  • Yeah, I was lucky enough to march with him. Sick marcher and player

  • What brand of trumpet do you guys march with?

  • Dynasty

  • Damn not bad to much screaming high notes for my taste but at least they were in tone couple chipped ones but over all not bad less lead lol

  • This is awesome! Thanks, guys! :)

  • It's a gift to play such a high notes at this age. (20 21 years young).

  • WOW!!!!!! Why cant you put stuff like that in the show! Go Justin! Congrats BD! Undefeated season and a 99.05!

  • Sounds like something out of a Don Ellis album. I'd go insane (in a good way) if the Blue Devils actually put music like this on the field.

  • blue devils did scream a lot

  • Dude, they got 2nd in brass, you're acting like they got 22nd.
