Evergreen, an non-profit environmental charity, worked with the City of Toronto, Ontario Heritage Trust and the TRCA to complete the plans. We did not tear down a chunk of buildings, and while we complete the adaptive re-use of the site, it is unsafe to walk in the construction zone, which is why portions are fenced off. We intend to keep all the great aspects of the site, highlight its uniqueness, yet open it up and make it accessible to everyone.
yes, you did tear down a chunk of buildings. if not, what is your explanation for the buildings which were there in early 2008 which are not there now? you had it fenced off before construction, and the property with buildings which you tore down after deeming, which had been standing just fine for 15 odd years, just so happened to be the place where you were going to build your own new evergreen buildings.
@colenbrak some of the buildings were structurally unsound. they were reinforced and a new buliding was wrapped around them - you can now see the old buildings inside the new one that protects some of the bricklines from further weathering and decay.
@UpstairsMaid more like, the buildings were economically unsound and had to be torn down so evergreen could put their not so ecological building complex up.
thanks for tearing down and ruining the brickworks. are you really making a community centre with focus on the community? how creative.
