The way it gets hard for these people at distances like that is they don't really know to compensate for range and bullet drop, which is substantial in especially the AK at ranges of 300+yards - but besides having little to zero competent military training, organization or weapon knowledge and moreover rather inaccurate weapon systems I don't see why they shouldn't hit a few :)
The Russians gave heavy support to the Iraqis as well. Most Iraqi arms were from Russia for free (like the T-72s here, and the Scuds and other missiles).

What's factual is that a typical, factory, Russian AKM shoots 4 MOA and a typical, factory M16 shoots 1 MOA. 4 MOA is enough for 100% hit chance+some error margin on the average human torso out to 400-500m. The only thing that would make a difference between the two under that range is how well the shooter aims, and luck. Now, it's very probable that a 30 year old AK kept in Iranian stockpiles may not shoot that well.
@iconindy And also, for having shot several, i can say that the 7.62 (not 5.45) AKs deserve their reputation for terrible accuracy, but because of ergonomics and recoil, not because of build quality.
@iconindy No, they are not. As already said, when held in a vise, they shoot 4 MOA in average, which is respectable performance for the M43 cartridge and the action design of the AK. Other than that, finition and assembly precision are quite good on military surplus models. Usually, foreign copies of the AK 47/M like early Chinese type 56s are more shoddy, but they got the quality got better after around 1970.
After a little research I found that many of those guys after volunteering for the Pasdaran got issued a uniform, gas mask, some ratty old 782-gear, received a some lectures , fired a few rounds from their rifles, fired some RPG-7 training sub munitions (or just simulated firing), and then ZAP straight to the Basra front. A lot of those Iranian kids went from univ-students to combat veterans in a couple of weeks. I admire sand no matter who shows it.

Wow that is a catch 22 for that tank crew, If they stay in the tank they will probably be blown up or most likely burnt alive if a round ignites their ammunition, which in an Iraqi tank in this war, is most likely stacked around the turret. If they bail out they risk getting lit up by small arms fire and mortars. Most of all Iraq failed to meet the UN 687 - remove continual threat in the region. Iraq agreed to those terms that UN will force them too but Iraq failed in all accounts. That what restarted the hostilities in 2003.

UN passed 22 resolutions in which Iraq agreed with those terms but UN resolutions 1060,1115,1134,1137, 1154,1194, 1205, and 1284 all condemn Iraq for NOT complying which Iraq is in VIOLATIONS of the cease fire agreement. UN 687 stated "comply or we will force you too". Quote the lies on resolutions, you can't. You just making things up.
If you think the war is for oil, then you're pretty wrong. The oil belongs to Iraq when we invaded.

We only sold him "dual weapons" that could be made for anything and Saddam made it for himself, not us. 99% of Saddam's weapons came from Europe and Russia which overstepped the UN sanctions. @DarkstarNV It was alot more than 100 meters, you can tell when he zooms out the camera around 1:25. The way it gets hard for these people at distances like that is they don't really know to compensate for range and bullet drop, which is substantial in especially the AK at ranges of 300+yards - but besides having little to zero competent military training, organization or weapon knowledge and moreover rather inaccurate weapon systems I don't see why they shouldn't hit a few :)

The Russians gave heavy support to the Iraqis as well. Most Iraqi arms were from Russia for free (like the T-72s here, and the Scuds and other missiles).

What's factual is that a typical, factory, Russian AKM shoots 4 MOA and a typical, factory M16 shoots 1 MOA. 4 MOA is enough for 100% hit chance+some error margin on the average human torso out to 400-500m. The only thing that would make a difference between the two under that range is how well the shooter aims, and luck. Now, it's very probable that a 30 year old AK kept in Iranian stockpiles may not shoot that well.

@iconindy No, they are not. As already said, when held in a vise, they shoot 4 MOA in average, which is respectable performance for the M43 cartridge and the action design of the AK. Other than that, finition and assembly precision are quite good on military surplus models. Usually, foreign copies of the AK 47/M like early Chinese type 56s are more shoddy, but they got the quality got better after around 1970.

After a little research I found that many of those guys after volunteering for the Pasdaran got issued a uniform, gas mask, some ratty old 782-gear, received a some lectures , fired a few rounds from their rifles, fired some RPG-7 training sub munitions (or just simulated firing), and then ZAP straight to the Basra front. A lot of those Iranian kids went from univ-students to combat veterans in a couple of weeks. I admire sand no matter who shows it.

That tank got eliminated (nothing more is needed), focus then moves over to fighting the other tanks that still pose a threath.

It's funny reading comments regarding these mens' performance on the battlefield. How about when US troops clashes with Taliban - do their bullets hit their target EVERYTIME? Do people have any idea, how many 1000's of bullets are fired by US soldiers, and still the Taliban (vastly inferior tech & vastly outgunned) manages to withdraw from the firefight unharmed - amazingly poor performance on behalf of US troops considering that the war in Afghanistan is assymetrical & low intensity.
