Social security IS a disappointment. The idea is nice, but the actual practice is not. It can't possibly function when its funding gets pillaged and there's so much a difference in population between the old and the young.

The Social Security system is 54 trillion dollars underfunded, David Walker tried to tell everyone, but gave up and resigned. Don't depend on the government for anything, because if you do you might be eating lots of tender viddles. Well I'm not sure the context or what McCain exactly said, but Social Security is a nightmare for the U.S. as well as medicare. There are tens of billions of unfunded liabilities sitting right there.
