Two thing I love about this song:

1. Axel says "I tried to write that song for a year, and couldn't. I went to write it at the studio and passed out. I woke up two hours later and sat down and wrote the whole end of the song, like, just off the top of my head. It was like, don't even know what's coming out, man, but it's coming. I think one of the best things that I've ever written was maybe the end segment of the song "Coma". It just poured out."

Oh my gosh I just wrote that last post before the video had played out - Axl really lost it toward the end here, the whole song almost crashes and the rest of the band have to cut to the last bars. That's the thing with vocals - guitars don't run out of voice.

Yeah I agree with estranged2010, there's very few songs you can compare this to. G' n R' are the only band who could stretch a proper rock song out to the 10 min mark and keep it interesting for the whole duration. Often that meant a modulation up a tone and two parts to a song, like several off Appetite. But Coma has like five or six sections - just awesome; Slash's lines are phrased and lyrical as always.

This song was *rarely* performed live due to it's length and the strain it put on Axl's vocal chords... this is a rare find. It's not a perfect performance (they rush parts and Axl nearly looses his voice) but its still excellent. I wonder if Axl used the teleprompter on this? I don't think he'd be able to sing any more that night.
