  • IT JUST DONT GET BETTER,than these guys.

  • Always loved to see how Sam moved when he played and sang. So much joy! And Bela always quietly standing off in his corner. Nobody like Cowan and Pat was great on the guitar. Love, love, love these guys!

  • Sam Bush....I mean damn that guy is good.!!!!!

    Is he from this planet?

  • I saw NGR at that country music club in NYC (can't remember what it was called, it was on 50th and 8th or in that area anyway - can someone help please). My brother and I had just arrived on a delayed flight from England for 2 weeks in the states. Even though we were tired and jetlagged we wanted to see some music so went out to see NGR who we didn't really know but thought might be good. Marty Stuart was supporting, and he was good, but NGR were something else entirely. Amazing performance

  • Saw them several times , got to meet Sam. LOVE THOSE GUYS . WISH THEY WOULD DO ONE MORE .

  • Great video!

  • Sam Bush still gets together with Bela Fleck and when they get together with Tony Rice and Jerry Douglas and Victor Wooten then things really rock!

  • can't say enough good things about these guy !! they are so Awsome !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My dad went to see them at an outdoor festival, and it started pouring l5 minutes before they were supposed to go on. only like 20 people stayed. He said they came out and played like there was 20,000 people in the audience.

  • I'll agree it is a tragedy that NGR wasn't recognized more for their awesome talent. I loved them from the first time I saw them years ago. It is wonderful to have youtube to relive those amazing times. They are all brilliant musicians and their harmonies and their interwoven instrumentals are simply unparalleled. I've had a marvelous night revisiting their songs. - B.J.

  • For LauraEllen at KPIG ~

    Please rest, luv.

You cannot know how much you influenced my life.

    Much respect,

    Douglas

  • I will never forget while i grew up my parents were hosts to bands travlin through our area, and New grass revival jammed at the house till the sun came up!!

  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • Man, I loves me some NGR! Anyone know who the drummer is?

  • I thought they had manequins proped up in chairs at first, but I did see one in yellow move just a little. Sam's chops are awesome....

  • i always new sam bush was great

but seeing his on this video, such dedication and energetic focus to the music, really impresses me

  • Sounds Great guys. Keep It up!

  • Bela always looks so out of place on stage with the other three. He shows no emotion at all. Oh how I wish they would tour again!

  • reggae and bluegrass!

    can it get anybetter?

  • What blows me away about new grass is that their music sounds new and current every time i hear it even though its been ,what ,25 years or more. its a testament to their talent.

  • I agree. This music is timeless. It makes for great road trip tunes too. Gets you in a good mood when you're driving 900 miles a day. :)

  • Kind of funny how we just get a small glimpse of Bela Fleck in this. He wasn't so well known then. Sam Bush has so much creative energy. It would be great if they get together again even for just a one month tour.

  • The Revival were such an awesome band. I'll always love Bush and Cowan!

  • Was hoping these guys would get back together! Man these guys were Awesome!

  • Wow, wow, wow! Jamacian style bluegrass! I love it!! I'm a new fan of New Grass Revival, and it just blows me away how EVERY song they did was such an epic win! 5 stars.

  • @HillbillyJ I am so pleased you have discovered my favorite band and enjoy them so much. I really think they were ahead of their time. Sam Bush is my hero. I love his aggressive and explosive style of pickin. And I have never heard a bluegrass band have such a soulful lead singer as John Cowan. Truly my favorite singer STILL. I feel Bela Fleck is in a category all his own as a musician. And Pat Flynn, wow what a song writer and musician!

Check out John Cowan Band-I really think you'll love it!

  • @SamuelGuthrie I agree, I think they are still ahead of their time today! Nobody has been able to match them, IMHO, unless it would one of these guy's own bands. Sadly, there aren't many New Grass Revival fans, it seems most people have never even heard of them. Bluegrass circles still think of them as too modern. Its a tragedy, I think.

Thanks for suggesting John Cowan's band, they are awesome!

  • NGR rules. I so remember New Country, etc back in the day. I miss all those shows on TNN.

  • mother can sing

  • sam bush is really rocking my socks off :D

looks like he loves singing that tune

  • I love New Grass Revival, I don't know any song they've done that I haven't liked and appreciated.

  • Don't comment if you don't like it. Unless it's constructive criticism.

  • I love NGR, but this is not one of my favorite tunes of theirs.

  • Can someone post the Great Balls of Fire cover they did? That version was great.

  • i dont think that was ever caught on video...i have the unreleased track from the studio....great version...cheers

  • I saw them a couple of times and it was a holy hell moment where my heart swelled to three times its original size. Beer and pot are scary when the music is that good.

  • Hahaha. I had to bail just after intermission at a Bella Fleck and Flectones concert for the same reason. I just couldn't take anymore!

  • I don't have a clue how those people at that taping weren't up and having a great time with them. I had the good fortune a few times to see New Grass live and there was never anyone staying in their seats then. I will say that they are probably one of the best bands of all time for me. Sad to see them split when they did, you will never find 4 musicians of that caliber in a band together again. AWESOME!!!!

  • Hah john cowan! I love you man hah

  • The Hair! The Neck Action! (human, that is). The Neck Action! (instrumental, that is). The Clothes! The Vibe! The Chops! The Energy!

    Thanks for posting!

  • I used to see them at the Great Midwest and Cherokee Pub in Louisville,KY back in the late 70's been hooked ever since. Truly an American Treasure

  • Don't know how those folks could have stayed glued to their seats for the taping of this show! This band's life was far too short. As someone in the music industry that listens to nearly everything, NGR has remained one of my personal favorite bands of all time. An amazing combination of playing chops, memorable music and good personalities. Not to diminish what they've all done since, but NGR was truly a special group! Thanks BluegrassLibrary for so many great NGR posts!

  • New Country--that must have been QUITE a show! (Unfortunately, too young & stupid to watch it at the time!) I LOVE this song and their version of it cooks (I say that in case the song's author has a hidden-away performance of it somewhere that I haven't heard :-) THANKS again, BluegrassLibrary (this used to be up here and disappeared for a while)

  • NGR Is great...I miss them...

  • Ain't no doubt about it;

I'm gonna sing, and shout about it now!

  • I liked em better when courtney johnson was on the banjo, but I'm partial to him anyway.

  • I really like both line ups, but "Fly Through the Country" is by far my favorite song.

  • One of the all-time great bands. Thanks for posting this!

  • REVIVAL-NGR-No Greater Reprise.

Muffin Stump Bush knee high to a

    Cowan,Bush,Fleck and a Flynn.

    MSB GREEN WITH ENVY.

Cat-A-Lackin' Through The Country in Deville

  • Great song....this is truly a group of very talented musicians. Thank you for posting.

  • GREAT STUFF!!!!

  • Fantastic stuff. Fantastic Musicians
