  • hell yes

  • That's the greatest hymn to humanity ever sung. That's us. We should be glad for it, damn the drama and the consequences. We're awesome. Each and every one of us.

The only thing similar is the Ode to Joy.

  • wow its just so beautiful in which the spirit of the song is sung ... singing for justice & freedom & love for each other ... not just humans but our brothers & sisters ... all over this land ...

thank you Peter Segeers & Lee Hays & others like you who fight for justice beautiful song & so timely too in my own life!

rare these days ... love belovedsugarplum

  • Although the song might seem cheesy to everybody who went ot summer camp in the 80's 90's and up, it is still a truthful and beautiful song.

  • Pete, you are precious. A national treasure.

  • Pete Seeger is an american musical icon, and yet, his humility and joy is overwhelmingly brilliant. He seems more into the fact that the audience is singing along that the fact that he is a true superstar. If only more musicians were like Pete--full of energy, humility, and joy... Hopefully he'll be with us to see his 100th birthday, and the world will be a better place then...

  • With most audience-participation songs, you have to drag the singing out of them. Take Pete and a great song, and the crowd sinks their teeth into it, and brings it on home. Pete Seeger is truly an American Treasure!!

  • 3 people don't have hammers!

  • @Qazqazman128

or brains probably republicans that got lost

  • Pete Seeger is my hero. A true idealist.

  • Thank the cosmos there are people who get it. Who sing thier hearts out in one way or another to preserve what this country was meant to be. Happy New Year. May we all get it some day.

  • What a trio! Simply the best of what's good. Nobel Peace Prize to Ya, Pete!

  • Thank You !!!!

  • I wish I could have a third grandad, Pete Seeger :D

  • Just very special - the man and the song

  • d'aaw. he's so cute xD

  • Very Good :)

  • long live pete seeger!

  • Fantastic!

  • Passion for a Hammer

  • Pete and Arlo who could ask for anything better. If I had an hammer I would hammer out hunger, proverty, racism, greed, anger and war.

  • God bless you, Pete Seeger, God bless the good things about America, and God protect us from the Teabaggers.

  • @edwardjayallan You know, I am a Libertarian(I am not sure about Teabaggers, they've been 'highjacked' by the neocons), but I think Pete Seeger, even if he is a communist, is an American hero. I think if he were an America communist dictator, he probably would be great. But not everyone, like Pete Seeger, is great.

  • @comeonfolks Seeger is an anarcho-syndicalist, as I read him.

  • @comeonfolks Although that's a nice post, here's a bit of info. Pete QUIT the CP in 1949. He was in the Party for maybe thirteen years. He's been out of the Party for SIXTY-TWO years. Isn't it time to finally stop defining him solely by a political allegiance he held for less than a decade and a half?

Pete is an independent, anti-repression, pro-peace, democracy and humanity person. THAT is what matters now. And it's not as if anyone in the CPUSA CAUSED Stalin to be Stalin.

  • Pete's contribution to our culture simply cannot be measured. Thanks Mrs G

  • Pete came to Japan and gave a concert in Shinjuku (1963 I think). Some of American students talked to him and he came back to our campus (International Christian University in Mitaka and we sang together.. What a memory.... What a man...

  • i LIKE it.

  • Never heard this till choir now I love it so much and yesterday by the beetles

  • I have very deep feelings for this great man

  • It was kind of odd

  • Brings tears to my eyes. A song that lives its own life. It must feel good to have written one song like that - let alone having written loads of them, like

    Pete has...

  • I love to see how excited he still is about that song after singing it so many years! And I totally love that I am watching this with my 5-year-old daughter right now b/c she just learned this song in school! I hope Pete's message lives on for many years to come.

  • Now that is a REAL feelgood song!

  • As long as we keep singing it out all over this land, we are not lost. Keep singing, my brothers and sisters!

  • Never more appropriate than now.

  • All over this land

  • What a beautiful song, and such a warm and joyful performance/ It takes me back to my primary school recital days in the mid 60's.

Peace and good will to all...

  • Pete Seeger's my hero :D

  • and what a wonderful hero he is! the best type.

  • petes awsome hes a thousand years old now i think..

  • @danceoncardboardd

I second that emotion! Few performers have done as much as he has for the causes of freedom & justice...and he's still going strong in his 90's! Good for him! :-)

  • that just took me back to when i was going to camp. we would sing this song almost everyday

  • powerful..

  • some reporter just asked him what he was planning to do for his 100th birthday, he replied "I don't plan to be around". Than would be sad

  • Pete will always be with us. He is one of the threads holding this country together. His songs and legacy will live on forever as part of the fabric that is is America.

  • Feliz Aniversário, from Brasil.

  • I don't think anyone connects better to an audience better than Pete! Happy Birthday Pete!!!

  • To all that is good and holy, let it be true, all over this planet.

  • Happy 90th next month, Pete Seeger. And for our sake, please have many more.

  • Gods! This brings back such memories! I love it!!

  • Muy bueno, Pete!

    thank you very mucho.

  • Thank you for this video!

  • My headteacher used to make us sing this at primary school :)

  • awesome!!

  • real as dirt!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A GREAT song for Today!!!Jan 20th.

    I Hope Obama is the Hammer..the People;

the wood and let the nails be Love!

  • amazing song...great Americans all! Peace

  • Beautiful! That's a man who is devoted to his work;)

  • so energetic :), excellent

  • HERMOSO..

    GRANDE PETRE SEEGER.

  • Really good celery talk

  • i like peter paul marys version better; the tempo makes the song better IMO

  • I agree, but you have to give credit to Seeger for co-writing it.

  • freedom bell - the american revolution...

  • great song! hits you through your consciousness

  • A "communist song" that was recorded by at least 160 different musicians, including heavy weight all americans.

  • Try the this song was part of the progressive movement of the time, not communist. The progressive movement was lead by several well known presidents, FDR being one of them.

  • If it was a communist song, shouldn't it have been called, "If I Had a Hammer and Sickle?" ;P

Great song. Does your heart good.

  • So why do you take the time to search out a song, click on it and take the energy to type such a negative comment...do you not have anything better to do with your time. Why is it that some people if they disagree with a concept feel they must bash it, and cause such ill will? I hope your eyes will open soon....

  • @caliklovesmexies10 It's a universal humanity song.

Pete was already out of or on his way out of the Party when he and Lee Hays(who was NEVER in the Party)wrote it.

There's nothing in it that would lead anyone to "communism", at least not the Soviet or Chinese kind.

Just let the Cold War die already. And get over yourself. If you aren't rich, it's the rich that are your enemy. Not "communism".

  • Another super song.

  • Family togetherness at its best!
