And in exhale parts like the Finnish one has I don't want to open it up and I can't see how it works.

@albinotatertot It's simple. You know the mesh on the front of the mask, where the mouth is? That's where the exhalation goes. The filters are fitted to the sides (or the bottom for some really old masks). There's really no amplifier involved, in fact, the voice is usually a bit muffled as they're meant for filtration, and thus not letting air in (except through the filter). The mask itself is sealed, usually rubber, and is designed to keep bad things out through positive air pressure.

They are both wearing a Soviet era ШМС Gas mask also known as the SchMS by the East German army. The white one's designation code is RU-028 by the Russian armed forces, with the blackish gray one's designation being RU-029.
