  • In videogame called "Team Fortress 2" a character, Demoman (who is black scottish man with only one eye, and has huge interest in everything explosive) has a WW2 model stick grenade called "Ullapool Caber" which he uses as melee weapon. he hits his oppenents with it, and the "caber" tosses him in the air. Please don't get offended by this what i write. That real caber tossing looks stunning, after what we finns can only do is to swim in the middle of winter in icy water.

  • The best part is, this comes totally natural to us Scots!

  • Thumbs up if you got here because of Team Fortress 2.

  • ahh the old caber toss! i loved watching it at the highland games i couldnt probably do it though XD

  • Some cultures have sports where you carry balls. Other cultures have sports where you toss balls. The Scottish have a sport where you carry a tree and toss it. Hindered only by the incredible size of your balls.

  • oh man, he's a monster xD

  • classy.

  • Nothing says "MANLY" like being able to throw a telephone pole end over end!

  • Scotsmen really know how to get it up!

  • 180 pounds-ish

  • How much does the caber weigh on average?

  • damn, that would be hard

  • Is that a tree trunk or are you just happy to see me? XDD lmao! hahaha

  • 99 Str noob!

    (lol Runescape reference...Check!)

  • There are officially 4 people on the face of the planet who wouldn't know something amazing if it came up, grabbed their heels and flipped them end over end across a field...

  • holy crap, this is the manliest sport I've ever seen

  • @kkkdddfffeee its scottish.

    nuff said

  • ach only 23 meters...

  • Corn chips are no place for a mighty warrior!

  • ah, bless the Scottish:

'Hey, lets pick up tree and throw it'

  • and it is sooo much fun

  • live at the apollo? :)

  • @cerealrulz XD

  • @cerealrulz - Hello. We Scots have a sense of humor and also make jokes about "tossing telephone poles." I know you've got the right to say anything you wish. However, with all the discussion about "tolerating" cultural differences between people, I'm wondering if we Western Europeans are entitled to have our traditions respected (not ridiculed) as much as we're expected to respect others. Are we? At least it appears you enjoyed "the caber." PEACE & LOVE TO YOU AND TO ALL.

  • @cerealrulz I always wonder why I look like a neanderthal and am naturally strong but then I remember i'm scottish. THROW DA TREE BRARRR

  • @cerealrulz dont you think your ancestors have done anything similar? Just that we embrace our history and carry on the traditions as respect!

  • Who is the competitor that tosses it? Looks like Gregor to me but cant tell for sure???

  • this is about as perfect a throw as you can get...

  • Neil Coles must have 18/00 Str

  • His name is Marlon Pankhurst

  • Man... geerza21 said it was Neil Coles a year ago.

  • That does not make his name 'Neil Coles'. Marlon Pankhurst has been around for longer than geerza21

  • You're a nerd for saying that, and I'm a nerd for getting it. Thumbs up.

  • That was in response to mikedubya, btw.

  • im a nerd for googling what that meant...very glad i didnt know...

  • This has got to be the greatest sport of all time.

  • haha, awesome.

  • I love that most of the world lift weights, and leaps hurdles, we Scots throw telephone poles and rocks :)

  • That may be my fave comment of all time.

  • :grins: I've been watching all the likes of this since I was 5 and going to many festivals as a Highland Dancer, which is a wonderment in and of itself. I've even made ballet dancers cringe at the thought of a half point, and yet my toes neither crack and bleed, not do they look nearly as deformed.

  • Yes, The Dance is a wonderment of its own! Unfortunately, I have the deformed feet, as there was nothing but ballet or tap where I grew up. Wish I could've! And to grow up seeing such feats! I'm envious! (Caber tossing explains how I was taught to fight, though- "Pick em up and throw 'em!" LOL!)

  • Yea, good memories for sure...if you still want to try I have a list of all registered teachers in the US so you could see if one is reasonably close. Or if you want something a little less strenuous you could always try Scottish Country Dancing :)

  • @EoE4evr and wear skirts

  • @MrRookie26 no skirts...kilts! Unless you're talkin' the tartan skirts we lassies sometimes wear wi' our plaid's and bonnets :)

  • @EoE4evr absolutely, tartan skirt & plaids are one of my favorite accessories (sort of) ever :) love how they fly behind you when you spin...

  • @EoE4evr Nothing says "WOULD YOU PICK UP THE FUCKING PHONE" like a telephone pole through your window :D

  • @EoE4evr And its natural to us...

  • @EoE4evr uncouth swine

  • @tangoman111 your opinion is your own, although at least we can put our kilt where our mouth is...as it were

  • @EoE4evr Nah, I didn't mean it. was only a joke. =P I actually dont have anything against anyone.. except those damn Irish.

  • @tangoman111 as a good Scottish lass, I couldn't agree more : )

  • @EoE4evr last name is Stewart and god bless the scots

  • @87fattie22 Aye, I'm a Cameron myself :)

  • Its not for distance buddy

  • Is that the normal length for a caber? It seems exceptionally large.

  • There is no set length or weight for the caber. The Braemar caber is recognised as the most challenging caber of them all. There has been less than 10 people in history tossed it completely.

The rules state that the caber should be big enough so that only 1 or 2 competitors can toss it.

  • Gla mhath!

  • yeah this is neil coles - he s amazing at tossing that big rod

  • that looks fun
