except that 99% of our current raagi's no longer sing the old compositions, can hardly hold a note, and completely lack any proper form of classical raag training. I agree that we once had the foremost musicians in India, but currently those are few and far between... though it is nice to see the interest growing once again.

Theres very few raagi jathaas like Bhai Balbir Singh Ji left. The famous bollywood composer Naushaad Sahab once said in an interview that in the 50s and 60s, bollywood composers used to go to Amritsar, The Golden Temple, and steal the compositions of the raagi jathaas. These days, raagis cannot wait to sing a shabad in the tune of the new hit song. The level of quality we once had is gone. Very sad.
