What the americans dont like to admit is they were trained the british royal marine commandos. The green beret comes from the royal marines we've been around at lot longer so don't even bother saying you were here first.

@davevak Green berets are just their nickname, but they are Army's Special force that includes Delta force. Delta Force and SAS are what I would say the special force w/ the same tactical specialties (Mostly Black op's) But Green Berets tends to be more mature and smarter in nature because help train other ISF and do long range mobility patrol like they do in Afghanistan and Iraq. So before you speak, you should know that Green beret's job could be more stressing in nature.
@davevak Their mainly for raising armies out of small resistances, making and keeping trust between the US and that populace, and being nets of local intel. (who the good guys are, who the bad guys are, finding hidden caches, raiding local houses) They are long term deployed compared to SAS.
@davevak Also, They are trained to Survive against all odds, and to not break if they become a POW; trained with languages and with a portion of comms, medical, engineering, or weapons, but specifically and thoroughly trained in one of those.
In essence, SAS/Delta force are perfect, so to speak, and Green Berets are versatile.

Watch "Two Weeks in Hell", the documentary on SFAS selection and you won't think its very "soft".

Team building, command tasks, only tests the individual's ability to work as part of a team; a skill which should already be there, built-up through years of service. Selection, the 3 weeks, as with the SAS should concentrate purely on the individual.
US SFAS is weak, as a SF test, and is comparable to Senior Brecon, which every British SNCO (Inf) must complete for promotion.

SAS selection has one single task. Bergen marches. All you need to do is watch '2 Weeks in Hell (Part 1-9)', the 'proof is in the pudding'. SFAS, an assessment and selection course that like Basic Training still places alot of emphasis on command tasks (team building) rather than the individual. While foreign SF selection treat their candidates like adults the US still treats theirs like day 1, week 1 recruits!

Delta Force and SAS are what I would say the special force w/ the same tactical specialties (Mostly Black op's) But Green Berets tends to be more mature and smarter in nature because help train other ISF and do long range mobility patrol like they do in Afghanistan and Iraq. So before you speak, you should know that Green beret's job could be more stressing in nature.

@davevak Actually they're super similar, both are around 3 weeks, but while SAS selection consists mainly of long, solitary bergen marches (which SFAS does also), SFAS selection has team building exercises like carrying telephone pole for miles and devising, building, and using vehicles from scratch to carry loads of equipment for miles. Watch "Two Weeks in Hell", the documentary on SFAS selection and you won't think its very "soft".

All you need to do is watch '2 Weeks in Hell (Part 1-9)', the 'proof is in the pudding'. While foreign SF selection treat their candidates like adults the US still treats theirs like day 1, week 1 recruits!

@KnightArkham alot of soldiers over there have become very messed up in the head because of what they've been through and its not really all their fault they are trained to kill and they have been desensitized to death. some troops make stupid decisions i mean for cryin out loud they live in a war and are told to shoot an enemy that is invisible its just like any other military really. but bad mouthing them is just rude... the majority signed up to help people.

In my original argument I was arguing that SAS selection wasn't harder than Green Beret selection, which it's not. I've read numerous books on both of them. It get's unpopular because American people find out that the war is not really necessary to protect the U.S. and first of all the U.S shouldn't have interfered.
