@gfscarface13 Back in the 1960s yes for the most part. They even had some sympathy from Yankee fans as Casey Stengal was named their first mananger and the Mets wore their home pinstripes as a tribute to the Yankees. The Mets did their best to win over Brooklyn Dodger & NY Giant fans by trading for legendary players like Willie Mays, Duke Snider and Gil Hodges when they were at the end of their playing careers. After 1969, the Mets evolved on their own.

@gfscarface13 Possibly. A lot of Dodgers and Giant fans hated the Yankees so when the Mets were created, they transferred some of their love for baseball to the Mets rather than the hated Yankees. By the way, the original team colors of blue and orange were chosen from Dodger Blue and Giants orange.

@gfscarface13 yes....my family were dodger fans after they moved my dad did not watch baseball NO WAY could he root for the yankees. when the mets came along, he became a mets fan. Our colors...Blue and Orange come from the Giants (orange) and the dodgers (blue). We are decendants of those fans.

@gfscarface13 when the dodgers and giants were there, the NL teams used to get more of the blue-collar fans. someone once said rooting for the yankees was like rooting for general motors. now, a lot of it is geographical. the mets get a lot of their base from long island. and i guess rooting for the yankees now is like rooting for exxon mobil.
