  • Paul Simon's never going to write a song about Photoshop.

  • Goodbye Kodak

  • I agree they don't write these songs today, this one talked to you whether you were listening or not. Great lyrics.

  • would it be fair to say that this is one of the greatest songs of all time? Ps, I am not a photographer!

  • This and "Love Me Like a Rock".

  • Wow, this song was written before I was born, and it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard!

  • This is my favorite Paul Simon solo song! I can never get enough of it!

  • @JOSECHETATRIBUTE Thanks for your wonderful comments! :)

  • Anyone else first remember hearing this song from Coneheads. I heard it when I was doing shoppoing today so I decided to look it up

    I adore you for uploading

  • good job adding the pictures to the song!

  • High School memories...thanks

  • @ Mr. Smitteh: Ah yes, really??? Of course, i know! I`ve been on the Simon and Garfunkel concert in munich 2004! I know hes still alive but he is not handsome anymore... Years left marks. Thats my opinion. But he was and IS a genius, I love his songs!

  • such nice pix from Paul! He was a very handsome guy!!

  • @MF81the1st

    Was? He's still alive.

  • when i feel like shit.. i listen to this song.... thank you "cone heads" :)

  • I live in Brazil and I aint got either not much to tell about the education that we had in High School !!

This songs is a part of my life when i used to take pictures not with Kodak but with FUJI FILMS that people used to say was better

  • They dont make it like they used to!!!

    Forever live good music!!!

  • @megadankk - I agree!! :)

  • my pops raised me on paul, simon, ccr, doors, joplin, hendrix, and the dead. That was the best era for musicians. They created music for a purpose, not a check. Yes, they wanted to be paid, but the source of the music was not from that drive. The motivation manifested from a message they felt needed to be spread. thanks dad.

  • Same :) Such good Dads !

  • What a sweet and honest comment. I couldn't agree more : )

  • Hit #2 in Billboard. God bless!

  • share your kodachrome memories

  • Thanks Ann.Nice wee song to start the day with !

  • @johnmckinlay67 - :)

  • Rest in Heaven's Peace Kodachrome - I've been very much into "traditional" old fashioned photography trough many years of my life, It will be severely difficult to live without the "one and only" dia-positive film Kodacrome, the '25 ASA' type, used to be my own favourite for twenty years because of its uncomparable super-fine grain & great resolution capabilities! LOVELY classical song, this one - Tobbe in Sweden!

  • @Thbenjaminsson And amazing color.

  • hahaha 0:19 i go to that high school

  • GRACIAS

  • The Muscle Shoals Alabama studio band is awesome with Paul on this recording. Really great recording.

  • que de souvenirs !! bravo for posting this !

  • Lovingly prepared. Thanks Ann6079.

  • coneheads4life

  • Great post! You gotta love this song!

  • damn good oldie

  • Im 15 too amazing song, not a big paul simon fan but I'm not into new stuff and this song is very nice.

  • @90zosoman09 yeah, my mom was going through her cd's and she put this cd in and the songs just got stuck in my head.

  • tune!!!

  • Nice upbeat tune

  • YES RIP KODACHROME and EKCO in it's hayday. I am proud to say that I worked for Kodak from 1976-1997 before it was butchered by the man in the Fedora who sits at the helms like Nero and watched while Rome burned.

  • The original lyrics may have been everything looks better in black and white but what gives? Kodak sells black and white film and did then. Don't mean color is bad, in fact many of my amateur photographer friends as well as Tech school photographers spend much time studying black and white photography. What gives?

  • I'm nostalgic to see Kodachrome pass. I will always LOVE this song :) 140 years for film cameras is a good run though and I really appreciate my digitals. Here's to new and exciting things, cheers! And long live Kodachrome in our lexicon.

  • The song is probably about the advent of digital photography.

  • @edwsshaw1 this song came out in 1972, it's not about the advent of digital

  • I was a photographer for the Department of Defense in 1972. I recall a tour of duty with the U. S. Air Force Joint Photographic Effort in 1970.

You might be surprised at some of the technology

that was in use at that time, specifically in the

areas of computer based color correction and associated video technology.

  • was it reverse engenireed alien tech..lol

  • No, actually I wouldn't, but do you really think the average person of '72 was thinking about digital photography? Besides, all of our opinions aside, Paul Simon, himself said that he originally intended to write a song called "going home" but thought it was too conventional so went with Kodachrome because of it's similar sound. :-)

  • Yeah, and you'll be telling us you played the lead role in Thunderbirds next.

  • The most famous application of true digital

photography occurred with the Apollo moon landing. What year was that, around 1961?

I'm comfortable with young people believing that it all started with MySpace. Why not?

  • @edwsshaw1 not all young people believe that! some of us have open minds and more logic!

  • Oh, I know. Sorry to have generalized. I'm just

so surprised such a seeming harmless remark

could have set off such a reaction. I should'a

just let it drop. So, I have a few things to learn, too.

    Thanks for commenting.

  • @edwsshaw1 Firstly, there was more than one moon landing - also, the first one took place in 1969, not 1961.

  • @youvebeenthunderstru

Thanks for looking that up, although it's irrelevant.

Digital photography has been in the pipeline since the invention of television.

Pictures of the surface of the moon were beamed back to earth in the

1960's. That's history. Paul Simon's song was released in the early 1970's.

  • MsSherry's spot on Ed.Compact Discs weren't invented, computers were the size of the side of a house and you had to kick the dog off your gramophone to play this lovely song !!!( Well, some of us did!!! ) :)

  • I Love My Friend in Cooperstown like Paul Simon!

  • lets not over think it folks,in a nut shell he's found his young man hood (the kodachrome),still has authority issues but is learning to love and accept life for what is, simples x

  • What??? The song is about Nostalgia. The original lyrics "everything looks better in black and white" can attest to that.

  • I love!

  • You dumd SOBs do not know a good song when when you hear it. How old are you?

  • @BOOMZOE123 im fifteen and i enjoy this song very much, im actually a pual simon fan, nothing beats the classics!

  • Hasn't hurt me none?

  • I think this song is about getting laid, just like every other song.

  • I only could leave the mental health clinic after to listen this song !

I am truely thanked to Mr. Simon and Mr. Garfunkel.

I never return there but, I listen this song once a week.

  • bang on ! , julio

  • I guess he never listened to the music very well, but whne my father was young he thought this was the lyrics

Mama don't take my clothes and throw em' away.

  • when i was 6 years old my dog bit the leg of George Eastman, as he rode a bike down my street in tucson az. -true story, however i dont have any pic's to prove it.

  • im going to read into every line and lyric of this song until my freakin brain explodes-

what the hell is wrong with you people?

  • Nice one Grhr69 !!! I clicked onto this to hear a nice wee song and people are all at one anothers throats !!! I don't think Paul Simon had this in mind when he wrote this. Unless he meant the song to be about .......Oh, Never mind !!!!

  • I love this song!!!! It's just so joyful and unsentimental - a pure, unadulterated treat. Also, there is no "hidden message" lurking behind the words: it is what is is, and what is is pure fun. Thanks for posting!!

  • I love this song... if everyone really saw humanity for what it was we'd all just blow each others brains out ....well maybe. anyhoooo its a great song.

  • isnt that what were doin anyway?

  • Still my fav song-- you still rock paul !!

  • i have to write a freaking essay on this song in my lit class..... its about how ppl are blind to the reality of the world through the happy, colorful items/events in the world that are such greatly stressed.... but in reality the world is a hatefull "grey" place. if you dont belive me, ill send you a detailed analyse of each line of the song proving this point.... thats what i have to do anyway... haha ^.^

  • i'd really like to read that analysis, could you send it to me in a message please?

  • yea i will. ill do that now.

  • @TheViolinist1001 I wouldn't mind seeing the analysis

  • @TheViolinist1001 Good freaking luck Pal.

Not much of the lines lend to themselves to such a negative analysis. Methinks you're teacher is--how do I state it delicately? Putting all sorts of paranoia into your mind, chief.

Don't get me wrong, I'm the sort that thinks they can dissect so-called hidden messages in songs. But I'm guessing you're jolly well boned. I'd be glad to offer my opinions though if you're interested.

  • @TheViolinist1001 I would also like to see the analysis please send it to me in a message

  • @TheViolinist1001 To tell you the truth I think he's saying nothing compares to his imagination, and all is vanity. he's not saying whatever it is you think he's saying. He is saying dont have a pessimistic attitude hold on to your kodachrome. and he begs that it isnt taken from him by some tragic occurence or something this song is extremely deep but it has to do with one word... Imagination, and the crap the world does to try and make us lose touch with the "colors" so to speak around us

  • Did you analyze it using the original lyrics or the Kodak-approved lyrics? Because it drastically changes the meaning of the song.

  • He's got a nikon camera! xD

  • i love the "green" of summer!!! =420

  • thank you - that seems like the best comment yet.

  • I've got a nikon camera = )

  • Was'nt this song, a protest, a caricature, because KODAK made their chemical waist dissapear somewhere in Africa ? Correct me if i'm wrong...Please !

  • @zaandamonline it's waste not waist the only correction I noticed

  • I don't think so. I believe it is a statement about how people are distracted and deluded by cheap and passing novelties and colourful distractions. In contrast, reality is harsh and so most people retreat to the "comfort" of the delusion. Just my opinion.

  • Kodachrome was invented in 1935 and lived all the way through the year 2000, which is remarkable considering that digital photography started pushing the film off the market in the mid-1990's. Nothing lives forever...

  • WTF R.I.P? R.I.P what?

  • Kodak stopped making Kodachrome film last year.

  • Well, they stopped producing kodachrome for Super 8 cameras... I'm sure it still exists in other formats, lol

  • No more Kodachrome at all anymore, Kevin. The last format for it was 35mm and that's all gone as of last year. No more processing for it after this December. Kodak took our Kodachrome away!

  • That was tragic...

  • Love Paul!!!

  • Memories are made of this! Thanks for the walk down Memory Lane! Nice pics' of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. :D

    *****

  • Dis is good song!

Who them girls at 1:15 ?

  • They are Charlies Angels!

  • great song....love the piano at the end...

  • i like the part about the "crap I learned in highschool"

  • i never cared for paul simon but he is a great song writer

  • greatest song that ever lived

  • Greatest song that ever ,, "lived" ?

  • Not for its time, you must learn to put everything in context or you will be lost.

  • Thanks for posting this. I bought my S.O. a Nikon camera for Christmas, I played this song as the hint. We've been enjoying repeatedly ever since!

  • sweet!!

  • Thanks YouTube for putting Papa Johns pizza commercials on my video. Thanks a lot, bastards!!!!

  • They are both straight.

  • that is so irrelevant to whether or not he is a great song writer/performer...... get over your bigotry.

  • It's a shame that something this old and even classic was discontinued just like that due to these shitty economic times.

    RIP Kodachrome.

  • R.I.P. Kodachrome.

    - 1 sad guy from Rochester NY....

  • good stuff bro

  • good song and Charlie Angels beautifuls

  • LOTS of good music. thanks Paul.

  • Good job. Nice montage. .... One Trick Pony is a very underrated movie. People, check it out if you haven't seen it. It's just as relevant today as it was in 1980.

  • Thanks! :)

  • Why can't they make music like this nowa days?........

  • @12me91. Because all they care about nowadays is people singing like they are talking with a mouth full of shit, or people rapping together fucking bogus ass shit that makes no kind of damn sense at all.

  • today s music is like all those things made in china, all of them are bad

  • im in highschool and im getting good grades like all As and Bs, then i try out an honors math class and i dont do that well, and my teacher thinks im a dumbshit and all the adults are like what the hell is wrong with u? so i agree with the first line of this song lol

  • ConeHeads =)

  • FANTASTIC! Only know do I know the name title of this song.. Wow XD !*

  • OmG. Simon Garfunkell????

  • paul was good looking...

  • whos is on first geeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzz

  • lol

  • this song and mrs. robinson rule

  • His first name is Art last name is Garfunkel

    Then Paul Simon!!!

  • the movie "the graduate" really helped simon and garfunkel because it featured only they're music and it was the begining of "mrs robinson" and "sounds of silence"

  • I remember this song back in 1973. Those were the greatest days ever.

  • Maintain low tones to your parental units!!!!!!

  • mebs! love that film

  • Paul Simon Kodachrome = Awesome!

  • great song one my favorites

  • Paul Simon has changed a lot of hearts, attitudes and perspectives for the better with this song. It is incredible as is Paul. Carry on Paul (and Simon),

  • why paul and simon??? his last name is simon maybe you thinkin about simon and carfunkel

  • Comment removed

  • Garfunkle?

  • I just hope Art and Garfunkel get back together as well....

  • Art is Garfunkel.

  • kinshaha: Thanks, but it was my English dry sense of humoUr...:)

  • Things that you learn!

I bought "Bridge Over Troubled Water" in 1968/9 and have followed them for 40 years now, buying all their singles and albums ....and I never realised....:)

  • ha hah ahahahahaha!!!!

  • @Isleofskye hahahah no no its paul simon and art garfunkel not art and garfunkel

  • I'm confused now.

I've never heard of "Paul and Art"...so I don't know what to think....

  • @Isleofskye i dont think ive ever heard that either because they were usually refered to as simon and garfunkel

  • This is not straightforward at all:(

I know Art is Garfunkel and he was partners with Paul, so who is "Simon"...

    Art..Paul AND Simon?

  • @Isleofskye your just over thinking it here il make it extremely simple

    simon&garfunkel

    paul simon & art garfunkel

    ok?

  • I think that I've finally got it Guys!:)

There's two different combinations, as above:-

    1/ simon&garfunkel

2/ paul simon & art garfunkel

    Only one question remains then:

I know the first names of the second pair but what are the first names of the first pair that you mentioned?

  • Simon is Paul's last name and Garfunkle is Art's last name. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle are the same people as Simon and Garfunkle

  • I wrote this on this thread 4 days ago Guys....

" I bought "Bridge Over Troubled Water" in 1968/9 and have followed them for 40 years now, buying all their singles and albums ....and I never realised....:)

I'm sorry it was my English sense of humoUr.:)....

I've been watching these guys since the Mid-1960's so I really DO know their names...lol

  • That's not an English sense of humour, it's just a fucking dumb comment !

    Jackass !!

  • @seventiesclassic sorry man but is well known around the world that 90 percent of china products are bad, and is not a joke

  • good! fucking! old! times!

  • Great song

  • Nice job on this video! Thanks!

  • brings back all sorts of memories, i think im going to go look through my old pictures now and remember the good times

  • dont take my polaroid away

  • This song brings me to a happier place filled with carefree memories of my youth..

  • Such a fantastic song.

    I love this song!

  • It is a beautiful song.

  • Listening to this reminds me of being a kid and just having fun. Whether solo or as part of a duo, the music was great and always will be.

  • The opening line in this song sums up America.

  • Damn i love this song! I had good musical taste as a child!!!!!! Lol!

  • Of all the songs he should sing with Graham Nash next time there's a concert for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this is right up there.

  • Great song and track. One of the best tracks ever cut at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, right up there with "I'll Take You There", by the Staple Singers, and "Brown Sugar", by the Stones.

  • Thanks for posting this. I can't get enough of it. Paul Simon is definitely one of the most talented musicians of all time!

  • @jewjewfruitiness agreed

  • NikonのカメラにKodachromeフィルムが最高の組み合わせなのですね。

  • Couldn't have said it better myself

  • Paul Simon.....and American legend without a doubt!!

  • Approaching the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco on my way to San Rafael I came upon a hitchhiker. A girl. Gloriously beautiful by any standard. I stopped and picked her up. As we crossed the bridge she said she was "hooking" today. This is the song that was playing as we crossed the bridge.
