It is about how in the past many people fled their own countries to have the freedom in the U.S.A.( normally because their own governments were corupt or just didn't give their people the rights they deserved) and how America seemed perfect when faced with the injustices of other countries.

This one scene they may be the only one in the movie to suggest that, But the whole movie focus on one group the Mouskewitz. Also if you look under trivia in IMDB you can see that Spielberg made multiple Jewish references in the movie. The school mice scene alone shows that even though Mice (the underclass of all societies) may be the target for hate from all other groups (the cats), they (non jewish mice) still do not accept Jew mice as there equal. Ergo classic Hollywood pro Jew.

However, when they arrived, they found that they were treated the same as they were back home. This is like that, only it's shown in a more child friendly light, with the mice and cats.

The Irish mouse's story reminds me of that brief sad scene in Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast when Lumiere tells about the objects misery in the castle.
