Personally, as grown men, these guys should've contacted each other, personally, and sort this out. This was just for ratings, in my opinion. Now, in regards to this president. He is doing so much as possible with a do nothing congress. If only he got the same type of excuses our previous president got. But then again, this is just my opinion. If you don't like it, don't get mad, get registered and vote
@fiost3k, actually, 1/3 of African-Americans will be sitting this election out. We're NOT willing to choose between DOG SHIT and HORSE MANURE.
Obama will NOT be re-elected, but he will get a pension and healthcare for this rest of his life, so he'll be ok, but our 17% African-American unemployed will NOT be ok. Once we have a White President in the White Houe, we'll be all up in his ears, so we can get this economy going again. Obama has messed it up for minority Presidents for years to come
@MonsieurMercredi Wow i Did Not Know That President Obama Was The "Caretaker" For Blacks And President Obama is NOT Directly Responsible For The 17% Of Blacks That Are Unemployed God Knows Some Of Us Blacks Need Some "Clarity Of Thought" The Fact is NO President is Responsible For People being Unemployed its The The Economy Going Through Stages And NOT The President!
We should not expect Blacks that have lost their homes, jobs, or businesses to just praise Obama, and we can't expect for these individuals to run out and vote to be ignored for another 4 yours. WHAT'S THE POINT? Obama had the first two years of support from both a Democratic House and a Democratic Senate. He focused on healthcare. People that don't have food in their bellies don't care about healthcare. They want jobs. Obama is all about rhetoric! He is all about self--OBAMA!
@MonsieurMercredi obama has taken all of the previous administrations tyrannical anti-american policies (policies sharpton hated) and has extended them all. he's a disgusting excuse of a human being. i view sharpton as another jesse jackson, a sellout
@S1elmx, I can't stand Al Sharpton--he's only interested in using Black agendas to fill his own pockets. He doesn't give a damn about Black people, and it's obvious now. He's criticized every other White President when they ignored Black issues, but now he refuses to criticize Obama, because he's Black. That makes NO DAMN sense! Obama is one man! I choose the majority of the Blacks and poor Whites and poor Latinos that are hurting--I don't give a DAMN about Obama!
I'm trying 2 figure out, what exactly is it, that Obama is suppose to do for black America? Anyone expecting him to display a particular bias on our behalf is foolish and unrealalistic. Anything that's done must be subtle and under the cover of night, or they'll run Obama's ass out of office so fast, his feet won't even touch the ground. By the way, he is 1/2 white and he owes them a turn too!
IM TIRED OF ALL THIS TALKING WHAT ARE WE AS A PEOPLE REALLY GONNA DO CAN ONE OF YOU TELL ME ? WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME AND YALL BEEN TALKIN AND WALKIN BEFORE I WAS BORN I SEE SOME PEOPLE GET AHEAD WITH TALKIN WHILE A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH NAMES STILL TALKIN AND MAKIN MONIES FROM IT .........IS THIS ALL WE CAN DO AS BLACK FOLKS IS ARGUE ABOUT SOME PETTY SHIT THAT WAS SAID.... MAN WE HAVE BIGGER FISH TO FRY I CLOSE NOW
I resented Tavis when he attacked Obama, but now, I realize that Tavis saw what the rest of us Blacks were too blind to see. We see clearly now. Obama has been a failure for Blacks. I won't be voting for him in 2012. I'm staying home. I respect Tavis' passion for us Blacks, and I think Al Sharpton focuses on silly stuff that doesn't benefit Blacks.
@meandmyself364, that doesn't fly with me. Obama hasn't done anything for Blacks and the poor. Whether it be a White man or a Black man ignoring issues impacting Blacks and the poor, it doesn't matter. How is it so bad to have an upfront racist White person as president versus someone that is Black that ignores Blacks and doesn't do anything for Blacks? Voting for Obama because he's Black is just stupid. When I have someone that is willing to respect Black and poor issues, I'll vote.
Here's where Sharpton loses me: criticizing Obama = attacking Obama. That is NOT true! Obama has not lived up to his promises and he needs to be called out on it; that's only fair. Too bad product Obama =/= president Obama....
I usually don't go against my frat brothers for NO REASON AT ALL. But I am VERY disappointed in Tavis Smiley. He has been very unfair against President Obama and I agree wholeheartedly with Rev. Sharpton. President Obama is NOT the president of Black America but rather of the United States of America. He should NOT have a BLack Agenda anymore than he should have a WHITE agenda or a Latino agenda. He should have and does have an American agenda.
@Jonssyy I think your right. This just expresses two sides of love for not necessarilly for our people, but for a concern of a community. I just get upset at times when we as blacks have to views its not a debate, its a fight.. none of these men are uncle tons. All have gave significant portions of their life's time to the communities betterment. Let's not let the typical black ego and placements we take in times of conflict and use these positive, progressive black men use this to a positive end
Tavis has a huge ego and is frustrated because he will always be a small fish in a small pond. Tavis!!!! Forget your meetings and conversations because they don't do SHIT!!!!!
If blacks wanted a militant black president, we would have overwhelmingly voted for Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson when they ran for president. We decided to vote for president Obama because he appeals to poor and middle class people of all races and all of the legislation he has implemented proves it.
Hard to say on this one but I lean towards Tavis' argument that the first black President should have a black agenda. Both gentlemen have a love for their heritage, I appreciate both of them.
I've started reading Obama's book and it is very surprising to me how much he speaks on race issues. He is very frank and open. I feel that if a lot more ppl calling the Pres. to speak on race would read his book, you'd get his opinion on race issues!!!! But how many of you would actually take the time to read it...or much less any other literature on African American History????
Sharpton like's to say "keeping it real" a lot to cater to the majority of idiots that think he makes sense based on that phrase without coming to any real conclusion. Sort of like "if the glove don't fit you must acquit"! He gets into a spitting contest with that young brother just to apear like the top dog. What a huckster...he's threatenned by any real intelligent conversation out in the open, because of his need for self aggrandizement above others.
Anyone who criticizes Al Sharpton is part of the problem. Sharpton is right in his support of Obama. Obama doesn't owe black people a damn thing. Smiley is a simpleton and a buffoon. Black people must help themselves. Embrace high-educational achievement, strive for all that is high and noble, and quit making excuses. Frankly, Smiley is ignorant and wrong here.
@jurdoc11 No one is saying Obama owes black people! But when you live in a situation where experiences are shaping thoughts and you don’t control the system that creates experiences, you are under thought manipulation. The clay can’t put demands on the potter. Everybody is not the same who made book smarts in the name of education the gateway to prosperity? I love Al Sharpton but he’s wrong. You can’t beat around the bush with a black agenda because we’re to fuck up!
Sharpton is a buffer aka bafoon and all these step&fetch multi cultural kneegrows need to grow a set, who makes an excuses for a nicca watching while the enemy chokes you? who does this? kneegrows! a black man wearing a perm can't tell me nothing about black liberation from white supremacy, he needs to cut that out or off lol, i will make no excuses kneegrows rubbernecking while Mr. Charlie's overseer rapes me!20% black unemployment & we'll wait & see what his stratergy is, the nicca showing u
neither is sharpton all of these black so-called civil rights people need to get over the fact that it ain't 1960 anymore and that they are the real source of racism in this country. BLACKS WHO ARE 30 THINK THAT THEY HAVE BEEN WRONGED AND ACT LIKE THEY WERE BACK IN THE 1800'S! They weren't in any bad situations, the black communtiy today is a shame to all blacks and a disgrace to this country! A big amount of blacks have this BS attitude that we whites owe them something! No I dont't!!!!
Al Sharpton is ABSOLUTLY right about this. Tavis could have talked to Al Sharton and the others he had concerns about before publicly criticizing them the way he did. Tavis could have at least sought clarification from them privately first.
If you want to stand a chance of being taken seriously, please set aside the petty ego battles. Frankly, nobody cares that you're best buds and go out to dinner.
1) Sharpton's producers may think this is great radio. However, screaming heads radio gets old really fast.
2) Sharpton works the corporate MSM (his MSNBC show and his radio show). Smiley's production company puts out his TV show thru PBS and his radio shows thru PRI.
3) If they do have this "conversation", will the MSM show it? No. It'll end up on C-SPAN late at night on the weekend when almost no one watches.
Wow! I have never posted before, but this is pulling at my heart. On the issue of the president and his role regarding black america or the black agenda, I tend to agree with Rev. Sharpton. With the internet, FOX news, and right wing talk radio, the president championing or saying the words "black" or "african-american" would be certainly distorted and used as a noose around his neck, but I am extremely disappointed in Rev. Sharpton. I find great offense in his conduct during the interview!
I'm so tire of people (in this case sharpton) ridin Obama's dick. "Change you can believe in"... Really? What changed? It's people like Sharpton, not holding the president accountable and making excuses for why he can't get anything done, that are setting us back. We need to stand behind PRINCIPLES, not a man.
@chrispriveco Healthcare is something many has tried to do and failed. If the Republicans shoot down everything how do you expect him to achieve anything.
I hate to see them argue about this! But, I guess both parties can hopefully resolve their differences and move on! These are two very outspoken and influential african-american icons! This explains why rev. al sharpton wasn't at the forum regarding the black agenda in america!
Obviously Sharpton is gonna ride Obama's d***.. I mean, afterall, he burns his head so that his hair looks more "white"... SMH @ these self-hating Toms..
This is "keeping it real" neither are listening to each other. You listen to clarify not mortify. If something is a matter of record than you present the uncut, unedited, raw transcripts, tape or whatever materials that documents what was said at a given time and the context and forum which it was said.
I like Sharpton but he's being elusive. He's an expert at picking out one distinction between to similiar things, and using that distinction to advance his point. It's a brilliant mauever but does no necessarily lend itself to the truth. Example;he says that Tavis needs to be on the panel because he is not objective. When Tavis counters with "was I not objective for last 10 years?" Al says "it's a new event". He knows Tavis want's to be the moderator therefore this excuses him from the event
Wrong, if you criticize Al Sharpton. That's funny how you do not see any of the other black leaders in person address and confront issues that relate to minority in justice like Al Sharpton does. Tavis Smiley keeps interupting Al because he knows he's guilty.
tavis is double-talking and sharpton is not letting tavis complete his sentences. they both sound horrible. sharpton says,"i was born at night not last night!. i suppose tavis should say, "well, i must be wearing orthopedic shoes, because i stand corrected."
Mr. Al Sharpton should not even be allowed to speak. He does not know how to handle himself. He just likes to here the sound of his own voice. Childish. Just childish. He makes my stomach turn. An illuminati hore! He is just plain ghetto.
Mr. Al Sharpton should not even be allowed to speak. He does not know how to handle himself. He just likes to here the sound of his own voice. Childish. Just childish. He makes my stomach turn. An illuminati hore!
You started it.....no you started it....no you say that..... no you say that...Words you would hear on a playground!!!I hope that can go back and listen to themselves. They sound like children. This is the discourse I hear between my children.I expect men to behave more appropriately.Sadly, this is what's going on within the community to much, to often!Let it go, there bigger fish to fry!!
@lifestraight everyone is entitled too their own opinion, i respect u for yours after i notice hiz action in every aspect of his talking points maybe thats why he was kicked of the Tom Joyiner show for running hiz self hatred mouth, a modern day Uncle Rukkus; dont trust dos new niggas ova yonder.......
Al sharpton could have really earned respect from the white and black but he's proving to be just another lap dog to the alter of greed. Al is like the black al gore.
Don't talkabout the president take him to God in prayer. Do all you can to help him show him that you care. For the eyes of God are on you so be careful what you say. Don't talk about the president take that talking time to pray.
YOU DONT WANA SEE NOBODY IN PRIVATE!!! QUIT SAYIN THE OBVIOUS SUCKA!! sharp IN LOWER CASE IS A WANA BE CELEB. AND HE THINK HE GOT POWER..........don king of politics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All of these "pundits" who are criticizing everything the POTUS isn't doing, are pretty much frauds!
Keith Olbermann
Tavis Smiley
Arianna Huffington
Arianna was invited to the WH (to have lunch) along with Rachel Maddow & Gene Robinson. She told the Prez., "I have other engagements." For someone who has so many issues with this man, why not tell him to his face instead of running from talk show to talk show?
If you think BO isn't going to help Blks, you are delusional! I gave him 4 yrs.!
The Democrats passed that job killing NAFTA, Bush passed tax cuts for the rich and bailed out Wall Street. When are people, especially black folks, going to realize that this corrupt gov't don't give a damn about regular people until election time. Those forums are just smoke and mirrors.
Help me out here. Tavis says that, "I thought our conversation was over, but your staff called me back and got me back on the air. While I was away, I have a stack of quotes while you were on with Wolff Blitzer, ladi, dadi, dah."
He conveniently pulled up a STACK OF QUOTES from Mark M, Dorothy H. Charles O. and Rev. Al? This guy has an agenda, and it's not a Black one! It's a Clinton agenda. Wake up, people!
The Minister Farahkhan said it all during Tavis Smiley's forum on March 20.
(1) "If we run Obama out of office with this bickering, in the future we (Black leaders) all should just shut up!"
(2) He warned the US and the Secret Service--"You allowed that couple (the party crashers) to enter the WH w/o any credentials, or an invitation. America, this is a warning-Michelle will not go husbandless! Those kids will not go fatherless! Let this be a warning America."
You guys sound foolish, Obama is the president that we hired as a people not just black nor white or any other ethnic group and make no make no mistake he also meet and answers to an elite group that has a game in which is being played on us all. Maybe if you stop feeding into the game of division and unite as a people, life will be much better in general.

All you fools and nobodies should just shut up, because you don't work to do anything to help Black forks or anybody. So please keep your non-value views to yourself. Thank you.
"When we know better bluedov69, we do better". I won't cancel Tavis out or judge his intentions. They seem to have settled their public and professional differences. We must always respect our Elders. ☺
I love Reverend Al, he is our Pharoah (religious and political leader). This other wishey washey attacks have been unwarranted. I respect our President and hope he can continue to change, change the things that we can believe in. Tavis is accountable, but you must learn to follow the chain of command in true reverence and respect for others. Tavis needs a wife.
@1999Bateaux Don't you think that this is rude ? Tavis Smiley comes on a radio show supposedly to speak about a 'black agenda'. and it really to ambush and discredit the Rev Al Sharpton. I do not understand Tavis smiley's position against the president. I think tavis sees himself as some sort of Martin Luther King helping the disenfranchised. But he is apparently showing what a big jealous phony he can be.
"Pres. Obama does not run America. President Obama has been chosen to govern white affairs, and if in that process we get something it won't be because the governing powers want it, It will be because we organized and forced a government to speak to our needs" Minister Farrakhan at this same conversation that Tavis is speaking about holding. The same thing that Al Sharpton is calling for.
They waste hours on air doing nothing constructive but laughing and clowning. Sadly, thousands of black people tune into this garbage while the right wing media on the other hand is working diligently to mobilize and fire up their listening audience with believable lies. Most of our people don't get it. All we mostly think about is entertainment. Hip hop, J.Z, Beyonce, Hoops, football BET garbage. How many of our young people are politically and economically minded? How many of our young people
Contrary to popular belief, we (African Americans,Caucasians...whatever...) did NOT put President Obama in the White House. The Creator of All Things is still (as always) in charge here (and everywhere!)...nuf said! Don't worry, Be Happy.
It sounds like Mr. Sharpton has more of an issue than Mr. Smiley. This should have been a private conversation. It was childish and an embarrassment! Mr. Sharpton talked all over Mr. Smiley. Just straight rude.
@koolaid4315 wait a minute Mr. Smiley called his radio show and had his a&& handed to him . That was rude and I think he didnt come to talk about 'a black agenda' .. He just wanted to attack and ambush! I am glad the Rev talked to him in that manner
@koolaid4315 Did you hear Tavis earlier that morning on the TJMS? How can you say, this should've been a private conversation when it was Tavis who started it all? Tavis knew what he was doing.
When someone asks you a series of convoluted questions and won't allow you to respond, how can you consider Sharpton to be rude? It was Tavis who wouldn't allow him to respond. Tavis put his eggs in Hilary's basket and he lost! Can't you all see that?
Listen to the interview. If you don't know when someone told a lie, please, don't bother me.
On the TJMS-He said Rev. Al came out of the meeting and said, "the POTUS shouldn't be held responsible for Black America problems." Then Tavis acknowledged that Rev. Al said, "the POTUS would be wise NOT to make it ALL about Black America, but, include all America as well as Black America." Tavis knew what he was doing. He gambled on Hilary and he lost!
@whiteliberal1 It's Youtube's "Notorious Racist" - "whiteliberal1" His ignorant racist comments pollute Youtube daily. He has pretended to be a white priest, a Korean marine, and a black man so far..
@AfroImpi: LOL! My point exactly! What freedoms in the Constitution are they standing up for? By the way, I won't return the favor by calling you a name.
Alot of comments are made aganist these two gentlemen, but if anyone think they can do better than they need to do it because there is awhole lot of work needing to be done in the black community an it starts with the head all the way down to the body.
Tavis is so full of shit! He is still piss off that he is not the head nigga in charge of something! He wants the America to know he is big dog of somehting, so Al call his ass out and made Tavis look like a fool! I dont remember voting Tavis ass to be spokeman for black americans, so Tavis need to sit his player hating ass down and find his roll and play it! Like Al and all the rest of these black men who want to so call help black america. Sounds like Tavis is just mostly starting shit!
@thirdshift47 I think he is hiding his contempt for the president. You can say what ever you want. I have never seen Tavis tear into heads of state like that. I think his little ego was bruised when Obama did not come to the black state of the union conference. He cringes when someone on his show even speaks positively about the president. He and Jesse Jackson are the lapdogs for Fox and all those other conservative outlets trying to destroy legislation that would help a lot of people
@thirdshift47 why does he want the president to address a black agenda ? so he can give fox news and all the other conservative outlets a format to shut down every piece of legislation that will help all people. How dare you! Tavis is just a pariah
@theburg727 ok this is the run down.... obama during the campaign was invited to tavis black state of the union meeting Obama could not come said Michelle would come instead but that wasnt good enough ... tavis and jesse jackson took this to mean he did not care about their issues. They wanted AL sharpton to join them in criticism of then candidate Obama . Now they are frozen from the white house while Rev Al is an insider. They are just haters got it now
1.)Are you telling me that Tavis has never critcized Bush's policies?Indeed, one of Tavis' main contentions is the FACT that Barack has extended many Bush policies.
2.)Tavis was an Obama campaign supporter, but he & the rest of the black press corp totally thumbed their noses at the more progressive, poor AND black conscious Cynthia McKinney campaign.
3.)What kind of Beourgois black gives a shit about what Fox news says?LOL
4.)Your little State of the Black Union conspiracy theory is cute,& one in which i'm sure that you can easily prove.
5.)Al was just on MSNBC's program this past Sunday--'Debating the Black Agenda'-- basically making the case that Barack needs to adress a 'black agenda.'
The fact is,Al has larger-than-life ego & sems to feel that because of his past work in civil rights advocacy that he's somehow above criticsm in the black community. This is about Al not liking to lose an argument.Period.
@thirdshift47 the fact is that Tavis and all these socalled black leaders have big egos and now I believe that Tavis was an orginal Obama supporter because he never thought that he would go this far. He does not give clear concise information but gives conjecture by reading pieces of articles and not letting people explain their position. exactly what Fox news does. At least Cornel Wilde has a position and he explains in a clear and concise manner
Every contention that i've heard from Tavis with regard to the Obama administration is rooted in fact.I don't listen to NPR,Tavis,Al,Tom Joyner or any of these programs because the mainstrean black press is pretty weak in challenging, not only power, but popular opinion in black america as well.
Like I said,as a journalist it's Tavis' mandate to hold the administration to the fire,& we should be equally critical of Tavis when he isn't doing it enough.
Both Tavis and Al need to find their God. They are not good leaders because they take things to personal. They are not having a conversation just an argument.
President Obama please stay away from them. Both of them felt that you should have talked to them when you were running for office.
Tavis Smiley and Al Sharpton are really promoters of the white liberal agenda, which destroys black lives. For all of their militant fronting, they're position is perfectly in line with plantation paternalism. They themselves live off of the pathological self-destructiveness that comes frm the policies they advocate; it allows them to perpetuate the myth of racism and thus the need for the likes of Sharpton and Smiley to keep a lid on the ghetto. Shame on them.
you negroes talking about obama is a sellout are nothing but led sheep. Obama is working the black agenda , what more of an issue in the black community other than racism we face? We need jobs, obama passed a jobs bill. We need healthcare ,obama is working that as i write. Obama cant walk out into the white house lawn in Timberlands and a hoodie and say "black power". Obama is a wiseman and knows he is the president for all people and not just us.
I'm completely sympathetic to what you speak. Obama is working EVERYONE from ALL angles and not just the black agenda. Everyone needs jobs. Everyone needs healthcare. Everyone needs to get out of poverty. There is no one higher then the other or gets more attention then the other. Obama is not some savior; he's the president. If black folk want to tackle black problems, start in the household! Al and Tavis are both doing what white media wants; exploiting sterotypes in our race as a whole.
@TOMMYZOMBIES Think about this first. There has never been a white president that has pushed an American agenda since Washington. If they did then having a BLACK agenda wouldnt be an issue and everbody would be living comfortably whether you were white asian hispanic or etc. What we need is a MINORITY AGENDA, cause we the ones that take all the shit. They vote on our health care and use our tax dollars for bullshit. meanwhile they have the best health care, living a fancy life. MINORITIES AWAKE!
@TOMMYZOMBIES If He Did that He would Be the Coolest Ever, And Rename The White House to the Honkie House LOL. Or the Cracker House. HAHAHA that Would Be EPIC. ANd Besides He Wouldn't Wear Timberlands, He's the President. He'd Wear Nike's AIR FORCE ONES. hahahaha
@mwasie I thought it was funny. LOL Besisdes Back In the Day, Dumb was a Good thing. hahahaha Go watch Some Kid And Play at holla at me later hehehehe (btw all meant as Satire)
@TOMMYZOMBIES Bullshit. Obama has created nothing but debt. C'mon son. Hell he seems to have a gay agenda not a black one. Hell get the price of gas down. How about that.
@TOMMYZOMBIES People like Smiley, West and Jackson know better! Sharpton said it best when he told Tavis, "don't talk to us like we are stupid, Tavis!"
The aforemention caters to an audience who is either stupid or just plain Obama haters. They know this man will not leave the WH w/o helping the Black community.
To the clowns who said, "he won't be able to fix this mess in 4yrs.. It will take him @ least 8!" That's why I know the whiners are a bunch of phonies!
Dont stop Tavis pull all their cards, Obama included...Obama deserves to be attacked....Black people should not support Obama in any way shape or form period....
Tavis has an impecable record of support for his community, and is no puppet, political whore, or journalistic whore, he does good work in total transperency, I appreciate everything he does, Shapton and a lot of the rest of the ambulance chasers or poverty pimps, are old hat and need to go...
@borat443 i have never seen tavis in the community or supporting this community. I see al sharpton actually in the black communities in person. He is in Brooklyn, Queens Harlem and the rest of the cities preaching an active participant. I know because the man is a member of my church ! How dare you speak about something you dont know. Tavis plays phony in front the cameras and meet the press but he knows who does the real work out here . Stop acting like you know
1.If you have never seen the work Tavis has been doing you live in a bubble.
2. I dont live in NY, but its nice thats he running round NY speaking
3. I dont see Sharpton as anything more than a distraction, or some other political pimp, he has no good ideas, hes outdated, and comprimised in my opinion, If you want to cheerlead be my guest, as far as Im concerned Al couldnt lead me across the street...
@bluedov69 Tavis is a professional. His job is to ask questions and not to be d*&K riding Obama. Black people are the only group in America just happy to have a face up in the WH.
Conservatives elected Bush and before the got too comfortable in the Oval Office they asked for what they wanted and damn well made sure they go it. I understand the racial dynamics but we should only play that game for so long.
@sclay12345 Your comments would be taken seriously if you didn't make such statements as, "tavis is not d*ck riding Obama."
If you really think this man doesn't have the interest of Blacks @ heart, then......I don't even know why I'm wasting my time. Ever heard of "saving the best for last"? If so, by the time he leaves office.........let me put it this way.
"When Obama is finished helping Black Americans, there will NEVER be another Black POTUS!" That's how pissed WHITE America will be!
@sclay12345 Tavis has been @ Obama's throat since the Iowa caucus. Tavis is a Clinton supporter. When Hillary and Bill saw that Obama was a threat, they sent Tavis out to attack Senator Obama on the TJMS. Tavis, like so many people, thought Hillary was a shoe in.
I said that people would expect miracles out of this man in less than a year and I was right. I'm giving him @ LEAST 4 years.
Btw, another Black Face would fall in the line of "Michael Steele"!
Cont.Black people fail 2 see our own messes and revert back to the root of the problem(slavery & oppression) VS cuttin the root down and fixing ourselves. We as a whole celebrate a ghetto image & embraces "thugery" & ignorance in song & culture over education. Our churches ignore common blk social problems like AIDS & reaching out to the blk GAY & LESB community. WE are one of the biggist consumers of crap in this country & no ownership! So u tell me what is the Pres Obama suppose 2 do?
I am 29 years old and let me tell you something....the So called "black Agenda" has doe nothing 2 benefit me & My Agenda! Blacks now are so lazy....and want a quick resolve! Rude & disrespectful & public service postitions We treat each other like trash! We aspire to only be sportsman or entertainers Glorifying Ex drug dealng rappers that belittiles themselves & our People. We complain but too lazy to get up & out 2 fight 4 whats right & laughs at things that are deemed degrading! continue
@synira No its not Maginalized.....its freaking Fact......PERIOD! the Only disruption is this NONSENSE.....that frankly most young people like myself does not even care about....At least I can put a mirror up and see the ugly truth!
@sylvia- You're 29? you're not a child. You're very much an adult. The Black intellectuals are well aware of the fact that ppl such as yourself "don't care" about our community. In fact, I don't think they're addressing ingorant ppl like you who don't understand our history. They could care less. This conversation and debate is for Black folk who are concerned about the community. The less educated and ignorant could step to the rear. ...you need to deal with your sexuality first....
@synira Who said I was a child? Do you know how 2 read.... I am a young Black American who does not sit on fucking ass. I actually just had 2 Interviews with NPR news and CNN Healthcare in "OUR" community (which is a joke). Our history cannot change and we cannot stay stagnant either. I go out and ACTUALLY do! There is no "WE" in the black community and the more you & blacks like you stay DISSULLUSIONED the longer we will be catogorized as Poor, Ghetto, classless, irrelevant group of People
@synira Oh and I forgot 2 address my sexuality...LOL.. Let me keep this clear....lol... I am a 6ft, 197lbs, muscular PROUD GAY Black young Man who loves God & my family and who has a beautiful relationship with a dark beautiful Haitian man that Loves me. So on "working" on my sexuality... How about you work on you Homohobe undertomed comment...which is typically of ignorant ass blks in America. You would think we were boys/friends looking at us but no.. WE LOVERS so work on digesting that! lol
@Sylviasworld08 What does God have to do with this conversation? You must feel like you're doing something wrong. I'll consider working on my "Homohobe" and my "undertorned" sexuality. . . Whatever those two words mean... Listen CHICK I could care less about you being gay, your hatred for Black people obviously stems from your lack of positive interaction with the community based on your sexuality. You really are not masculine sweetie...the tone in which you write exposes such.
@Sylviasworld08 Okay...that response espouses my point exactly. You clearly have no class. I could imagine you rolling your eyes and snapping your fingers as you were writing this. ...and SURE you had an interview with CNN and NPR. Yeah right...about what...the rapid spread of AIDS and HIV in the black community? Like I said--deal with your sexuality...MAN. Stop acting like a female...BROTHER!!!!
@synira And you made my point...You funny because you sound so damn Fucking stupid that I wonder why I'm even having this discussion. First I am probably more MASCULINE than any MAN you know so no snaps here. I have class but I address the classless accordingly. lol. I would give you the link but what for? You need 2 worry about HIV & AIDS as much s the next black person STUPID! Black woman are 75% in 2008 & 09' Again Typically "nigger" ignorant rhetoric posing as intellectuals. Embarrassed!
@Sylviasworld08 You're right. I should worry about HIV and AIDS considering dirty men like you posing as straight and transferring this disease to women. "NIGGER" ignorant? Wow I feel so sorry that you hate being Black. It must drive you insane. You really should seek help for that...it's truly a disease you know.
You said that I'm posing as an intellectual? haha...thanks for the compliment.
You made some valid points earlier about why blacks can't/don't advance. However, as soon as synira challenged you on them, your responses illustrated some of the same characteristics that you had just criticized. You two going back and forth was no different than Al and Tavis. In both cases, the innuendos, insults, and overall mannerisms outweigh the words. The only thing these public spats do is further the negative stereotypes of blacks. You should follow your own advice when challenged.
Fuck Sharpton, dumbass hypocrite racist, can't even talk like an adult and he's supposed to be a civil rights leader who ran for office?! give me a fucking break.
Tavis started this shit,it wasn't Al this time, hell it's enough room for both of them in this struggle with these Devils. They need put this shit to aside and shake hands.
Obama will never cater to a black agenda. What he'll do is level the playing field by creating opportunities for anyone qualified. For example, he may one day create jobs that require degrees or technical training. He's not going to come to black neighborhoods (which are slowly disappearing) and give out jobs. He'll say "Here's an opportunity everyone. These are the qualifications. It's first come, first serve". They're going for the Melting Pot!!!! So where are our black leaders leading us?
Black people in America are completely politically clueless, voting for the Zionist-run Democratic party (ushering in Socialism). The Republicans are not better (socialism for business and the military). Don't they know that the Zionists ushered in, and overwhelmingly controlled slavery, and opposed it's dissolution? Don't believe me??? Try standing up against the apartheid in Palestine against the Palestinians by the vicious Jewish state. Find out what they think of you. Too deep in Jew money.
What's a black leader anyway? I conject that black people in this country today aren't a monolithic group. Yes, many common bonds are shared, but for various reasons, we collectively don't hold the same views on most subjects. For example, suburban blacks have different views than inner city blacks. And if you ask our personal views on education, jobs, healthcare, abortion, etc., you'll find us to be very conservative. But most of our leaders support liberal politics. Who of us are they leading?
There are Black suburban people that are liberal and inner city Blacks that are conservative and vice versa. By labeling all urban and suburban as having one mindset is incorrect.
It seems that you are accusing both groups of Blacks of having the same monolithic mindset that you have criticized. you contradict yourself.
No, I just couldn't fit my point into 500 words, so I paraphrased it. But I see now how I came off. What I'm basically saying is that the image of us that many of our leaders project & protect are images that, today, many of us don't fit into. Though several of us deal with it daily, many of us don't relate to "the struggle" at all. It seems that most of us have Christian based views though. If you apply those views to the topics I mentioned, you'll be leaning on towards the conservative side.
There is nothing conservative about hating homosexuals or being a hypocrite when it comes to minding other people's businesses as far as their sex lives are concerned...Your christian values are based on selfishness and some form of distorted supieriority complex.Hating homosexuals,Muslims or anybody who dont share Christian ideas are nothing to be proud of and should not be embraced by anyone whose ancestors were victimized by those so called Christian values...

Hard to say on this one but I lean towards Tavis' argument that the first black President should have a black agenda. Both gentlemen have a love for their heritage, I appreciate both of them.

I've started reading Obama's book and it is very surprising to me how much he speaks on race issues. He is very frank and open. But how many of you would actually take the time to read it...or much less any other literature on African American History????

@jurdoc11 No one is saying Obama owes black people! But when you live in a situation where experiences are shaping thoughts and you don’t control the system that creates experiences, you are under thought manipulation. 2) Sharpton works the corporate MSM (his MSNBC show and his radio show). Smiley's production company puts out his TV show thru PBS and his radio shows thru PRI.

Sharpton. I find great offense in his conduct during the interview!

quickmajik1000 9 months ago
I like Sharpton but he's being elusive. He's an expert at picking out one distinction between to similiar things, and using that distinction to advance his point. It's a brilliant mauever but does no necessarily lend itself to the truth. Example;he says that Tavis needs to be on the panel because he is not objective. When Tavis counters with "was I not objective for last 10 years?" Al says "it's a new event". He knows Tavis want's to be the moderator therefore this excuses him from the event

Like Al and all the rest of these black men who want to so call help black america. Sounds like Tavis is just mostly starting shit!

You're out of your mind,money.
1.)Tavis is a member of the black press corp, which is enough to be an ardent critic of anyone in power, including Barack.
Infact,it's his public mandate.
2.)Tavis has also shown to be an independent man of conscience;not an Obama lapdog like Al as well as most of us in the black community.
Barack positively spit on MLK in front of an audience of Europeans while accepting his 'peace' prize.
Get the fuck outta here.
thirdshift47 1 year ago 2
@thirdshift47 I think he is hiding his contempt for the president. You can say what ever you want. I have never seen Tavis tear into heads of state like that. I think his little ego was bruised when Obama did not come to the black state of the union conference. He cringes when someone on his show even speaks positively about the president. He and Jesse Jackson are the lapdogs for Fox and all those other conservative outlets trying to destroy legislation that would help a lot of people
bluedov69 1 year ago
@thirdshift47 why does he want the president to address a black agenda ? so he can give fox news and all the other conservative outlets a format to shut down every piece of legislation that will help all people. How dare you! Tavis is just a pariah

theburg727 1 year ago
@theburg727 ok this is the run down.... obama during the campaign was invited to tavis black state of the union meeting Obama could not come said Michelle would come instead but that wasnt good enough ... tavis and jesse jackson took this to mean he did not care about their issues. They wanted AL sharpton to join them in criticism of then candidate Obama . Now they are frozen from the white house while Rev Al is an insider. They are just haters got it now
bluedov69 1 year ago
LOL
1.)Are you telling me that Tavis has never critcized Bush's policies?Indeed, one of Tavis' main contentions is the FACT that Barack has extended many Bush policies.
2.)Tavis was an Obama campaign supporter, but he & the rest of the black press corp totally thumbed their noses at the more progressive, poor AND black conscious Cynthia McKinney campaign.
3.)What kind of Beourgois black gives a shit about what Fox news says?LOL
thirdshift47 1 year ago
4.)Your little State of the Black Union conspiracy theory is cute,& one in which i'm sure that you can easily prove.
5.)Al was just on MSNBC's program this past Sunday--'Debating the Black Agenda'-- basically making the case that Barack needs to adress a 'black agenda.'
The fact is,Al has larger-than-life ego & sems to feel that because of his past work in civil rights advocacy that he's somehow above criticsm in the black community. This is about Al not liking to lose an argument.Period.
thirdshift47 1 year ago
@thirdshift47 the fact is that Tavis and all these socalled black leaders have big egos and now I believe that Tavis was an orginal Obama supporter because he never thought that he would go this far. He does not give clear concise information but gives conjecture by reading pieces of articles and not letting people explain their position. exactly what Fox news does. At least Cornel Wilde has a position and he explains in a clear and concise manner
bluedov69 1 year ago
Every contention that i've heard from Tavis with regard to the Obama administration is rooted in fact.I don't listen to NPR,Tavis,Al,Tom Joyner or any of these programs because the mainstrean black press is pretty weak in challenging, not only power, but popular opinion in black america as well.
Like I said,as a journalist it's Tavis' mandate to hold the administration to the fire,& we should be equally critical of Tavis when he isn't doing it enough.
thirdshift47 1 year ago
PS
Are you talking about Cornell West?
Who's Cornell Wilde?
thirdshift47 1 year ago
Both Tavis and Al need to find their God. They are not good leaders because they take things to personal. They are not having a conversation just an argument.
President Obama please stay away from them. Both of them felt that you should have talked to them when you were running for office.
rmcjlive63 1 year ago
Tavis Smiley and Al Sharpton are really promoters of the white liberal agenda, which destroys black lives. For all of their militant fronting, they're position is perfectly in line with plantation paternalism. They themselves live off of the pathological self-destructiveness that comes frm the policies they advocate; it allows them to perpetuate the myth of racism and thus the need for the likes of Sharpton and Smiley to keep a lid on the ghetto. Shame on them.
sockrapist 1 year ago
you negroes talking about obama is a sellout are nothing but led sheep.
TOMMYZOMBIES 1 year ago 12
I'm completely sympathetic to what you speak. Obama is working EVERYONE from ALL angles and not just the black agenda. Everyone needs jobs. Everyone needs healthcare. Everyone needs to get out of poverty. There is no one higher then the other or gets more attention then the other. Obama is not some savior; he's the president. If black folk want to tackle black problems, start in the household! Al and Tavis are both doing what white media wants; exploiting sterotypes in our race as a whole.

@TOMMYZOMBIES thank you Tommy zombies you sized it up for me completely.

@TOMMYZOMBIES People like Smiley, West and Jackson know better! Sharpton said it best when he told Tavis, "don't talk to us like we are stupid, Tavis!"

"When Obama is finished helping Black Americans, there will NEVER be another Black POTUS!" That's how pissed WHITE America will be!
whiteliberal1 1 year ago

@synira No its not Maginalized.....its freaking Fact......PERIOD! the Only disruption is this NONSENSE.....that frankly most young people like myself does not even care about....At least I can put a mirror up and see the ugly truth!
Sylviasworld08 1 year ago
@sylvia- You're 29? you're not a child. You're very much an adult. The Black intellectuals are well aware of the fact that ppl such as yourself "don't care" about our community. In fact, I don't think they're addressing ingorant ppl like you who don't understand our history. They could care less. This conversation and debate is for Black folk who are concerned about the community. The less educated and ignorant could step to the rear. ...you need to deal with your sexuality first....
synira 1 year ago
@synira Who said I was a child? Do you know how 2 read.... I am a young Black American who does not sit on fucking ass. I actually just had 2 Interviews with NPR news and CNN Healthcare in "OUR" community (which is a joke). Our history cannot change and we cannot stay stagnant either. I go out and ACTUALLY do! There is no "WE" in the black community and the more you & blacks like you stay DISSULLUSIONED the longer we will be catogorized as Poor, Ghetto, classless, irrelevant group of People
Sylviasworld08 1 year ago
@synira Oh and I forgot 2 address my sexuality...LOL.. Let me keep this clear....lol... I am a 6ft, 197lbs, muscular PROUD GAY Black young Man who loves God & my family and who has a beautiful relationship with a dark beautiful Haitian man that Loves me. So on "working" on my sexuality... How about you work on you Homohobe undertomed comment...which is typically of ignorant ass blks in America. You would think we were boys/friends looking at us but no.. WE LOVERS so work on digesting that! lol
Sylviasworld08 1 year ago
@Sylviasworld08 What does God have to do with this conversation? You must feel like you're doing something wrong. I'll consider working on my "Homohobe" and my "undertorned" sexuality. . . Whatever those two words mean... Listen CHICK I could care less about you being gay, your hatred for Black people obviously stems from your lack of positive interaction with the community based on your sexuality. You really are not masculine sweetie...the tone in which you write exposes such.
synira 1 year ago
@Sylviasworld08 Okay...that response espouses my point exactly. You clearly have no class. I could imagine you rolling your eyes and snapping your fingers as you were writing this. ...and SURE you had an interview with CNN and NPR. Yeah right...about what...the rapid spread of AIDS and HIV in the black community? Like I said--deal with your sexuality...MAN. Stop acting like a female...BROTHER!!!!
synira 1 year ago
@synira And you made my point...You funny because you sound so damn Fucking stupid that I wonder why I'm even having this discussion. First I am probably more MASCULINE than any MAN you know so no snaps here. I have class but I address the classless accordingly. lol. I would give you the link but what for? You need 2 worry about HIV & AIDS as much s the next black person STUPID! Black woman are 75% in 2008 & 09' Again Typically "nigger" ignorant rhetoric posing as intellectuals. Embarrassed!
Sylviasworld08 1 year ago
@Sylviasworld08 You're right. I should worry about HIV and AIDS considering dirty men like you posing as straight and transferring this disease to women. "NIGGER" ignorant? Wow I feel so sorry that you hate being Black. It must drive you insane. You really should seek help for that...it's truly a disease you know.
You said that I'm posing as an intellectual? haha...thanks for the compliment.
synira 1 year ago
You made some valid points earlier about why blacks can't/don't advance. However, as soon as synira challenged you on them, your responses illustrated some of the same characteristics that you had just criticized. You two going back and forth was no different than Al and Tavis. In both cases, the innuendos, insults, and overall mannerisms outweigh the words. The only thing these public spats do is further the negative stereotypes of blacks. You should follow your own advice when challenged.

So where are our black leaders leading us?
jubiq8 2 years ago
Mr. Al Sharpton, I think you should attend for round 4. This is a very good discussion; however, I hope that you and Tavis can remain good friends.

Ok. I saw all three parts and the Tavis on TJMS.

Me thinks that Tavis is on the path to self destruction.
I could say more, but I will stop here.

Who of us are they leading?
jubiq8 2 years ago
There are Black suburban people that are liberal and inner city Blacks that are conservative and vice versa. By labeling all urban and suburban as having one mindset is incorrect.
It seems that you are accusing both groups of Blacks of having the same monolithic mindset that you have criticized. you contradict yourself.
aloofbooks 2 years ago
No, I just couldn't fit my point into 500 words, so I paraphrased it. But I see now how I came off. What I'm basically saying is that the image of us that many of our leaders project & protect are images that, today, many of us don't fit into. Though several of us deal with it daily, many of us don't relate to "the struggle" at all. It seems that most of us have Christian based views though. If you apply those views to the topics I mentioned, you'll be leaning on towards the conservative side.
jubiq8 2 years ago

There is nothing conservative about hating homosexuals or being a hypocrite when it comes to minding other people's businesses as far as their sex lives are concerned...Your christian values are based on selfishness and some form of distorted supieriority complex.Hating homosexuals,Muslims or anybody who dont share Christian ideas are nothing to be proud of and should not be embraced by anyone whose ancestors were victimized by those so called Christian values...
