This documentary had a profound effect on me when I was a little girl. I think they should show it in schools to teach kids about the roots of American Music. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for bluegrass music.
I'm Filipino and i appreciate bluegrass music. I first heard it when i was young watching the movie called "Deliverance"...i was tapping my feet to the "duel" scene...awesome music!! I've been listening to them ever since...
What the f is wrong with u? It's just a kid dancing. U think that's f-ed up? What exactly are u tring to say? U think this is an indication of the state of the world? HE'S DANCING!
@superisrephel The frog dance is actually called "clogging". A form of dance that evolved from traditional Irish/UK dance that was brought to this country by immigrants who settled in Appalachia. Learn before you speak.
I'm comfortable with saying Bill Monroe invented bluegrass music. But if that's too strong for some folks, maybe we should say Bill played midwife to the birth of bluegrass music. Bluegrass isn't JUST Appalachian string band music...a lot of people don't understand this. Bluegrass as a distinct form is not "old as the hills."
@daydreamcali5 La-la-la-chick-a-li-lee-lo, La-la-la-chick-a-li-lee-lo. (repeated with each stanza) I’m gonna marry who I please, la-la-lachicka-li-lee-lo, I betcha I will if you marry me, la-la-lachicka-li-lee-lo. Now I’m gonna marry Little Johnnie Green, He’s the prettiest boy I’ve ever seen. But he’s gone off to the wars away, He’ll come back some pretty fair day. Now yonder he comes I do believe, Oh, I hope he’ll marry me!
That wasn't that long ago Doc when you were in your child hood Doc ! Your still a young Man! Things have really changed from the times of your youth Doc.
Blue Grass invented itself , like all things in this world ,it just works in at the right time ,like night follows day . But its good music ,genuine music ,not like todays crap ,because then they could sing ,but no one can sing today without buttons and dials . THE KING OF BLUEGRASS HAS SPOKEN ,THATS ME .
Monroe did invent bluegrass. Nobody else but Bill Monroe was styling their music in the late 1930s to early 1940s to the bluegrass sound. Nobody else had a band called The Blue Grass Boys. Earl Scruggs' banjo playing galvanized the bluegrass sound. And he did it as a Blue Grass Boy at the end of 1945.
I'd be surprised if anyone knows at this point, but he's playing clawhammer style. Ralph Stanley will do one or two numbers in this style at his shows.
Tell you what!

What happened to the day of family singing & reading scripture together? There was a time when family stuck together & sang together.
