I love it... EVERY last video about long jumping or the 100m dash or the 400m dash is like "i'm 4 and i jumped 87m last year....is that any good?" or "i'm 9 and i ran the 100m in 7.6 seconds, i must suck." buy a cheap ass camera and get a friend to video you doing these (if true) incredibly extrodinary feats. but seriously, vids or it didn't happen.
@MrMaximilianWilhelm I totally agree with you. You have to be jumping at least mid 24 ft or 25 feet to be even considered getting a good chunk of scholarship. Full scholarships go to kids who are already at the national level coming into high school and could compete for a medal in the conference meet. I jumped 23 10 and got the least amount of scholarship possible, so coming from a d1 long jump athlete, there's your answer.
hit 19' 8" as a sophmore last year(towards the end of the season), this season as a junior already hit passed that with a 19' 9" :D however, needs some tips! seriously want some improvement this season, any help? besides the basic weight train and practice, already intensely do that. anyone?
if i jump like 20 - 21 feet my sophomore year, could i jump mid 23's by senior year?, my best jump righ now is like a faulted 19 foot jump and i just turned 16 and im starting to train alot in long jump now cuz my coach and my dad say i have alot of potential in long jump.
@MrMaximilianWilhelm thats pretty good, im kinda on the same page as you here. freshman year my best jump was 18'2" and i went to a couple camps over the summer so i hope i keep improving :)
no joke but at a state meet, an 8th grader from another school jumped 21'11 this year. i thought i was good by jumping 18'4 but i guess not. and that kid broke the record by more than a feet.
My little brother is a sophmore this year and is the number one freshman in the state of Ga jumping 22ft.5 he had a bright future google his name KeAndre Williams! Self explanitory watch out for this KID!!
@track0145 dude you need to work on your long jump, I'm in 8th grade and I jump 17' this was the first year I ever tried long jump, watch some of the videos of Olympians jumping, and watch the form, it helped me
@azhockey06 19'10" - 20' is really good for a sophomore in high school, i hope people know that not every freshmen or sophomore in high school can jump 21 to 23 feet, those kids are in like the 5th percentile of long jumpers their age. If you look at the standings for division 1 college long jumpers alot of them jump 22 to 23 feet, only the guys that go to regionals or nationals jump 24 + feet. You could easily get a scholarship to some division 1 or 2 school jumping 21 or 22 feet.
@Theleapingbison well not a full ride scholarship of course, a partial scholarship is definitely possible and you could easily walk on to a track team with those numbers but id ont see why you would have to. look at the standings right now for 2011 outdoor season on athletic, net, more than half of the top 200 out of thousands athletes jump 21s-22s feet, yes it is really hard to get a full ride scholarship for track, but alot of people will get partial scholarships and still be some of the best.
@MrMaximilianWilhelm it's only the first few weeks of the outdoor season, most good athletes peak at the proper time later in the season so look at the results in about a month. also, there is no way you are getting any money to a D1 school if you don't have the ability to score at the conference meet, which is gonna be more than 23 feet for most conferences.
@Theleapingbison well ok, in 2010 only 511 people jumped over 23' out of almost 4,000 athletes which is accoording to my math only 13% of the people, if you jump 21 or 22 feet, you will get a partial scholarship somewhere, not a big school but at least somewhere small.
@Theleapingbison the top 1,000 athletes range from almost 25' all the way down to 16', and only 59 athletes have jumped over 23' this year. you dont think that the people in between got some sort of scholarship?
@MrMaximilianWilhelm division 1 track and field programs have 12.5 full scholarships to spend on all events of track and field... they spend most of the money on big athletes from out of state in order to encourage them to come to the university. as i said before, the numbers will increase throughout the next months as jumpers become more competitive for conference, regional and national meets. there are 70 jumpers in the D1 that have already jumped 7.32m (24ft) get your facts straight
@Theleapingbison and you have to consider that not all of them are freshman and that the people jumping 24' as seniors probably jumped 23s as freshman
This year 16 years old I am currantly jumping 19'10
After our next meet I will have a video of me jumping. Are there any people out that would like to rate my jump and check for ways that I could break 20.
alot of the people on here are jus below average to be honest.. the wisconsin record is a 25'2 and there were like five people that jumped 23's this year that is pabout average for a jumper.. if u are a frashman and cant jump 20 u might be below average
im from milwaukee wisconsin and i was the city champ with a 23'3, and there was a freshman from another milwaukee school that jumped a 21 even and ran a 11.2 in the 100
maybe you guys just suck, i jumped 19.11 3/4 this year as a sophmore and this other kid on my team jeff kline jumped a 24ft 1in and is going to UofM, he set the michigan long jump record this year.
wow i must have really confused everyone by my comment. alright, let me clear this up. i was saying that i jumped 18 9, im a freshman its my best. i wasnt talking about my jump beeting the school record by 3 feet. i was talking about the jump on the video. my schools freshman record is 20 ft. and the day after i posted that comment a senior at my school jump 22'10'' which is now our school record. sorry for the confusion but my school record was never 15 ft
Dude don't go pretending like 21 ft is an "only" for a 14 year old sophomore just so that people will tell you that you're good or some shit like that. All of us here know what you're doing...
In states like Va, Tx, Fl, and Ca thats only a little above average

I agree, many people lie here saying 21 feet, 22 etc..
thats seirously most likely bullshit..
In ontario, OFSSA record (thats the entire province) record is 6.64 M.
thats roughly 21.78 FEET.
now, all theese people saying in thier first year juumping 21, 22 feet and not winning?
BULLSHIT. :|
Im not gona lie, im in GR.9 right now,
and without a lot of training ( actually virturally 0 in my longjump :P ) my best is 6.07 m. (19.78 feet)..
I've won 2 meets at university's, and one for my area
