This incredible man got me interested in philosophy at age 14, and thanks to him, I'm now majoring in the subject and passing my classes with little to no studying necessary (now 19).. In fact, with the aid of his lectures, I was able to write a 14page term paper on the Epistemologies of Plato and Descartes (and how they correlate the themes in the matrix). He's brilliant, he's inspiring, and like most of the brilliant minds of today, he doesn't get near the credit he deserves.
This guy is my hero! I hope I'm half as cool when I'm his age. I could listen to him all day, I don't care what he's talking about, he's just one cool dude. He would be so interesting to spend an afternoon with.
This is one of the best lecturers out there. The Teaching Company has a course called 'Great Ideas of Philosophy' which is 50 lectures by this man, and they are awesome
Actually, in 2004 prof. Robinson did a second edition of The Great Ideas which consists of 60 lectures. They are even more profound, I would say, than the original 50. In any case, this man is as worthy of respect as anyone I know. One of the truly wise.
Hi Odayk, I do have the complete lecture someplace buried in a hard drive. I would be surprised if there are other lectures by prof. Robinson on the net but i haven't really searched thoroughly. But if you would like the complete lecture i would be happy to make a dvd and send it to you or if you would be content with the audio only i probably could e-mail that.
My last comment was lost, so I just want to try again. The point I want to make is that although Robinson is very entertaining, he misconstrues the Callahan comment - perhaps deliberately, perhaps not. The article Robinson is citing is actually explicit about being hostile to treating human beings in the way implied by that language. Callahn is ironically invoking the cadences of bureaucratic rationality to point out how dehumanising the logic is. Anyone can find this by reading the article.
There are easy things that average americans could do to save lives but they refuse to do so. Until these people begin to help out the ones that are easily helped, the third world, they have nothing to say. Nothing. Right now one person could give 200 dollars and save a child in the third world but these people would rather buy an Xbox or a SUV. Terri Schiavo must have been more important then the millions of starving children in the world. Logical fallacies is what these people sell.
