i only recently re-learned my serve with the right coach and it feel amazing! it makes me so happy that i am hitting correctly and getting speeds i have never hit before..i measured my old serve which was wrong tech and the fastest i could get was 75mph which is really bad :(....but with my new one the coach made me use the short roddick take back so i dnt forget to bend my arms and it works! i only recently reached 100mph inconsistently but it feels amazing hitting correctly.
Serves look slower on camera. So some people may think their serves are way faster. To those people: take a video of your own serves and then compare your video to this one, instead of how fast your own serve looks on court to a video of others' serves.
@brado32003 Serves look slower on camera. I don't know why, but maybe it's because we're all been spoiled seeing professional serves "on camera." Consider Roddickace's suggestion.
actually yesterday i checked. i thought i did 70-80 on my first serve. but my coach decided to test it when i asked him how fast he thought he went. he actually told me 90-100mph. then one of my first serves went 120mph... ok i cant serve at ur max but I'm not saying im an incredible player
yes on the first serve, but no so much on the second one. my coach makes me really extend my body as much as ican when i serve and somehow in my matches im always walking out with a couple of aces or more
ya alot i started developing much more spin and i was more accurate. i just been training for 2 weeks with my coach and im already seeing MAJOR improvements, he said hes focusing on my forehands and volleys for consistency. Great coach
thats a solid looking serve. i don't believe half the shit i hear these punks on youtube talk about im 15 and i serve 110mph yeah bs i had to #1 and #2 jr usta kids on my tennis team and they served 120mph at the most. ive been playing since i was 4 on and off im 18 now 5'9"/5'10" 160lbs and i can serve probably in the low low hundreds because im not that tall. i just wanna see these punks post their videos because i think most of it is bs
as much as it would seem not true, some of it maybe, but my friend whose around 14-15 says he can hit 110, but his is only 80. Either way, u dont need height if you already have powerful leg/arm muscles. having stronger leg muscles to kick into a shot can increase its power at least 20mph, and physical arm strength, only makes up 50% of a hard serve, its all in adding momentum to your contact point. it gets more difficult when your using flat serves than spin ones.
yeah exactly i have a crazy fast spin serve but taller people do have an advantage at overall serve placement and power. my friend stan kim can serve around 125 and hes the same height as me except right after his serve makes contact with surface it immediately stops to like 70mphs its like all the momentum was lost its a sick serve it tricks you haha
lol, my counter spin serve is not too fast but, it spins quickly then drops low to the left of myself instead of kicking up,lol. My flat serve does same thing, cuz when i add weight and peed to the ball to my max level, the ball drops fast and kinda "slides" past the opponent, it bounces maybe 6inches off the ground while sliding through!Unfortunetly for me, that specific flat serve only occurs mayb 5/10 times, and the rest are just really fast.
sorry meant to say SPEED,lol, something was wrong wit my spacing button, but yeh John Isner is like 6'11 so he dont even need to really lean into his ball placement cuz he can just smash down and a majority of serves go in-at 130mph.
haha yeah that dudes a beast! this kid i know hes 18 and hits a 9 foot kick serve. he turns his body 180 degrees and then jumps so he is spinning all the way through the swing the fastest ive ever seen it was 70mphs. it was fun hitting overheads for a return shot haha. but this kid on my team serves around 90mph and his kick serve is random it goes whatever direction it feels he aces kids from just pure awkwardness all his shots look retarded but effective. I hit like 70mph kickers at the most
thats awesome, yeh i faced this middles school kid in my circuit is like 6'2, and all i do is duck under his kick serve...and smash, rofl it always works.yeh sometimes i randomly follow the wind in my serves.Like say on windy day, i just softly place a weak spin on the ball so that the wind carries the ball with nice side-spin.I did it on a 3.0 and he thought the ball went left but the wind carried it right and sped up cuz the wind was moving to the northeast.
haha ive done that before! when im goofing around with a shitty ass team i do this serve im right handed and when i serve from the ad side i make the ball ball spin to my right its maybe 50mph but right when it hits it stops bouncing and its like an auto ace. yeah i used to play in frorida and then i moved to michigan i was a "prodigy" haha until i broke my growth plate in my leg and i had to go through rehabilitation kinda sucked
LOL, yeh our tennis team played newburg wich sucked, and i wasnt getting my first serves in so i just "sunk" the serve where it went low and mayb 40mph and double bounced right after it went like an inch outta the service box, rofl.Dude that sucks that u broke it, but i kno a player from michigan but i only kno him by Dwaine, i believe he's ranked in michigan as #15 but i'll hav ta check.
lol, i play in louisville, kentucky at a club called advantage tennis/fitness, but my goal this year is to get seeded, cuz i play alot of tennis but i havent been ranked yet.
sweet. I generally use all grip types, but mostly the semi-western.I'm right-handed,but i can play eft handed by my serve power may drop off by like 30mph lmao.wat about u?
im righty and hold all grip types depending on the shot. general ground strokes western. hitting down the lines eastern or flat western its a habit. but my first serve is power spin/slice serve i can maybe get 125mph max... and my second serve is the same thing but slower or my kick serve which is around 70mph and about 5 foot of kick if im lucky haha
i got miscalculation my strongest hit is 94. Sorry i was lying about 104. But i do know a kid in my school he was 3rd singles and hit 108 out but 104 in. And he is only 5.9/5. And this another player who only played a year also like me and 3rd single hit a 112 out but 108 in. you NEED MUSICLE LIKE Atobe said!!!!
that looks like a good serve but on time when we were checking our mph serves i got 104mph and it hit the ned of the line i was so happy 104 and i am only 15 i just started playing tennis this year 15!!!!!!!!!!!so that proves practice does work
Those are very close to 100, if not already over 100, but they may look a lot slower than it would be, if you were on the other end, actually trying to return that serve.
haha, and right u are, becuz of air resistence, that serve is only about 45 mph by the time it hits out of the service box, but the principle's name explaining this escapes me at the moment.

People are bunch of sad liars... but whatever makes you feel less shitty about hitting 60mph serves, I suppose.

that's really not fast, I am 14 and I can serve already about 100 mph :DD

100mph isnt a lot? most high school players serve 100mph+ average first serve. the hard jump is reaching the 120's.

im 15 too
on a good day i can serve 125 mph
but if i learn how to pronate how much can that increase?
would there be any point mastering how to pronate?
matkimi 3 years ago
ya cuz pronating gives u more contact through the ball and more racquet head speed.

You probably already pronate if ur getting 125mph
RAFAnadalnumber1 3 years ago
i thought the same too
but when i try to pronate it feels weird so im not too sure if i am or not
matkimi 3 years ago
agree
its kinda like, if u r going 100mph, u probably riding a motorcycle, not a bicycle.
i can hit some where between 100 and 110 on my first. i use a puredrive roddick
