Put kdavidson in the youtube search to go to Keith's youtube page and see the in car videos with the camera facing the OTHER way. You'll also see a nice video he put together late last year with shots of several other cars he ran with.
I have a sportsman class dragster that's a lot slower than Keith's (while building my funny car) that I've had probably a dozen new people in. Not one of them was able to keep their foot down on the first pass and, every one of them thought they'd have no problem after watching the car run. The same people who weren't worried at all had eyes as big as golfballs once they're strapped in. That's a very hot seat/firsuit on your first pass.
Keith got his first six second pass last year. The engine is a KB Olds (aluminum copy of a big block Chevy) with iron Merlin heads on alcohol backed by a powerglide 2 speed. He had a blast last year and managed to make a small profit.
Modern nitro hemi cars make 4 second passes. Alcohol hemi cars make 5 second passes. Alcohol big block Chevy based cars do well to make 6 second passes. You can buy a used nitro funny car operation on racingjunk dot com right now for $525,000 which will cost you much more to operate than to buy it. The last time I bought alcohol a couple years ago it was $2 a gallon.
That didn't even seem like a full-blown funny car and it was still distorting the camera. If you only go and witness one auto racing event in your entire life, it must be an NHRA top fuel/funny car event at night. The power of those machines is absolutely staggering.
anyone have clips with Gassers? I miss my 56 it's still shown on Dennis Gages site uner "cool car's" red n white 4dr. Biscaynne, I would love to be a driver, and transport since OTR is my thing!
This video may seem boring because over half of it is the burnout and backing up from it. Look at how much steering input is required on a normal run.
Nostalgia drag racing is coming back around, just like choppers, bell bottoms, and everything else does. Just search on it. Keith Davidson, the guy in this video, is selling me the crankshaft that's going in my own funny car.
The handle that he pulls on is the brake lever. He said they figured out that what makes the camera lean over is that the windshield starts bowing at around 150 MPH.
LOL, boring enough that you'd need a change or two of underwear. Most of that waiting is backing up from the burnout. Go to classicfunnycarboard if you want to learn more.

If it wasa funny car he would have been off the gas in 4sec. not 7sec.

This is an alcohol car. You can tell by the high revs before the launch. A fuel car does not redline during staging.

Still, 7sec.????
