I'm of the opinion that DragonForce wanted two things -

1. A guy from England

2. A guy that sounded completely different from ZP Theart.

They rejected too many good singers, at least two of which I think sound better than Marc Hudson (you're one of them; neither you nor the other guy is from England) for that first one not to have been a priority.

In my opinion (just mine), you're closer to ZP's style than is Marc.

I don't mean to compare you two. But anyway, bravo. You're gonna be big one day.

@TheStupidEgo DF did the best choice. First of all Marc is 23 y.o and he has many years from his side to became a real pro singer.

Second: he's from England. MOther tongue and chep from the logistic point of view.

Third: he's nice.

Personally I don't like his voice and his style but his audition was good enough to invest on him. ANd people like his kind of voice clean light and high.

Finall DF are magicians in recording studio tricks.

Damn, just saw this audition vid for the first time. I think he should have won over Marc Hudson. And I'm with the guy a couple comments below me, Marc sounds more suitable for a Helloween type band. Ivan has the power, proper rasp, awesome range and naturally more fitting. Oh well, we'll see how it goes.

I think Dragonforce chose this song for 2 or 3 reasons:

1: Get a high note out of you guys immediately

2: See if you have stamina by choosing a long song with lots of sustained notes

(3: Check your ballad chops)

In the end, here's the way to look at all of vocal auditions for DF:

Question: Would I buy this track for 99 cents?

My Take? Great talent but a little raspy for my taste. I'm still backing Eli.

Dont get me wrong I actually enjoy the different accents that culture and lanquage brings to my metal, but most avg fans are not open to such. Being such a high profile band I dunno. Watching carefully, your microphone technique is really kinda funny. You aren't supposed to put your mouth right up against the mic at any point usually, but you do it whenever you're not hitting a high note. That's not to say it doesn't work, you sound incredible here. Bravo.

@Undercoverfire wait a minute...ummm...well my mic is 17 years old. I bought it when a was 15. He lost many high frequencies and he got a peculiar response in the different position you could put it. For example, when I'm singing something soft but rough I hold it perpendicula at the flor singing like in a bottle...

So...thank you for being so mindful! (the hardest part of the song is that verse: "ONE thousand shattered voices"; you can see me throw away the mic ahahah)
