You know, I was just thinking, if Grover knew her only as a grandmother, that must mean that out of all six of them, the granddaughter was the one who called the restaurant to make the reservation. Unusual to have the kid do that.
Poor Grover, doesn't he realise that in order to be a grandmother you must also be somebody's mother - and very possibly wife, aunt, sister and godmother?
In this case, Grover is immitating the Falling Baker from the number song series, only difference is the Baker had 3 birthday cakes and Grover has 6 birthday cakes.
That means that none of those customers are performed by Charlie's most frequent visitor of all, Jerry Nelson. Besides Mr. Johnson, Grover has also served Simon the Soundman and the Count (would anyone be able to upload that one?) all Nelson's characters.
Yeah, that's possible, I suppose. You never know who will do the puppeteering. And yes, according to Grover, the current video player is just a sampler and there is a lot more come.
OMG, I love this clip. Those were the days where Grover was a waiter and most of these parts were examples of how to maintain proper customer service skills. Mostly, I remember Grover attending to a bluish muppet who was so snippy. He always tried to get his way by saying "I don't want this (or that)." Today, I contrast the funny scenes with Grover being a waiter with the hilarious rude customer scenes in "Fawlty Towers." I do find this comparison for both children and young adults.
I loved that one...and I especially liked Richard Hunt as the hip godson and Jim Henson as "Hombre Sonriendo". :) Now, does anyone have the Mexican Waiter Grover segment?
So they cut "Happy Birthday" from "The Ape on the Train" but let Grover sing it here in two languages? What's going on there at CTW?
By the way, I believe that was Guy Smiley's latino cousin, Hombre Sonriendo, playing the nephew - if my vaguely approximate English-to-Spanish dictionary is any help.
I think it's okay to use it on television, since they can repeat the segment as many times as wished, but when it came to putting on DVD, where the owners of the song would profit from it (and Sesame Workshop doesn't have as much money as they used to), they probably thought it best to avoid the cost and replace a very minor segment...Probably.

I heard the "Let's see your moonwalk!"
I fell out of my chair laughing. The puppeters must have had little jokes like that all over the place.

I remember this. It's quite humorous. Will Grover ever learn?
Who are the voices of the daughter and the granddaughter?
Garrettk41 4 years ago
Fran Brill is the daughter; Kathy Mullen is the granddaughter.

We still have yet to establish who do the voices of the brother and the husband. Don't worry, Guille, I won't doubt you this time.

Brother: Brian Muehl
Husband: Marty Robinson

Maybe Nelson was the puppeteer (and not the voice - there was none) of the birthday guest of honor.
And no, I don't have the one with The Count. I bet it'll show up on the Video Player one day (it's full of surprises as it is).

That was very well written and very clever. The situation approach that Jim I believe developed was pure genius. ;) _Eric
