  • if jnt never took over as the new producer tom baker may have stayed as the doctor a lot longer like he said when i met him and i quote "the best job i ever had"

  • Tom has a wonderful voice.

  • : )

  • you guys realy like to talk about Tom don't you but then I do 2

    he is great

  • "whose sole purpose in life is to pass the time... a bit like the unemployed in this country"

That's rich, coming from an ACTOR of all people. A fine actor with a wonderful voice.

  • Great interview. Is there a second part?

  • I heard he wanted to play the Master I think he would have done good as the older master in I think it was sound of the drums?

  • In the last part of the interview, where Tom says that a popular character on TV can't change - he's absolutely right, for those days. I think a lead character on TV today CAN change and be more complex.

Viewers are more sophisticated now and grow bored with one-dimensional characters. Too bad Tom is too old to play the Doctor; Moffat would have some good stories for him.

  • "Too bad Tom is too old to play the Doctor"

Too old these days is over about 45!

  • Baker "too old" to play the doctor??!! The original doctor was in his 60s.

  • Yes, but teenage girls will not want to look at (or fantasize about) an old man. Notice how young Matt Smith is? He's ~12 years younger (if not *quite* as handsome) as David Tennant.

Teenagers are now the target audience for this show. The "Twilighting" of Doctor Who continues. :(

  • This sounds like typical studio exec-type thinking, like the ones who told Roddenberry to get rid of the guy with the pointed ears. There is much more than just teenage girls watching the show, and besides, maybe we aren't giving teenage girls enough credit.

  • Yes, I don't think we get enough credit!

  • Well, you'll always get the credit from me- and maybe even some blame, too! j/k, :)

  • lol, still, no matter how much we may drool over David Tennet(I love Billie Pipers Nick name for him- David Ten-inch) Tom Baker will always pwn as unbeatable awesomeness.

  • Most people my age like Tom Baker the best, because, like me, they were 1st introduced to Who through him. When he changed into Davison, I felt abandoned, but then the local PBS started showing Pertwee's shows, and he quickly became my favorite cuz I love B movies, and Pertwee's stories reminded me of the Quatermass pics. But just watching Troughton in the 3 doctors, I really wish his stories were all available.

  • Well I've watched Tom Baker since I was three, hiding behind the couch and chancing quick glances every now and then, he's been my hero my whole life.

  • I wanna know where you got that photo at 0:39 of Tom Baker with the book. I'm guessing it looks like a publicity still for when he was going the Late Night Story series. But I've got to have that picture!

  • Tom was the best doctor on TV and I liked him!

  • No way Jose - Dr Kildare is and always will be the best doctor on the TV.

  • What about Dr Spock?

  • Mr Spock.

  • MR Spock??? Did he get struck off in an episode I missed?

  • It's easy to get confused: DR Spock wrote the reference book on raising children; MR Spock was the character from Star Trek.

  • I'm from New York and i used to watch this classic british show "Doctor Who".One of my favorite tv series and the other show would be Benny Hill.Tom Baker rocks!

  • deepinsidedorothy:

    "grotesque british accent"

    Correction, best accent EVER!

  • up your's

  • He was acting with the posh accent dorothy-he was born a scouser in povery in the 1930`s[Liverpool if you didn`t know]...read his autobiography...

  • @deepinsidedorothy - If you're by any chance a yank, then the only voice that's likely to be more stupid than yours is the Australian

  • @ffcbulldog666 - Hahaha! Excellent

  • @grobbledonk Er Im Australian and you can stick that one right up your fucking arse dickwank, Australian accents are no way worse than American ones, and if ur a pom then dont talk about accents urs are a farce lmaoooo

  • @deepinsidedorothy Dumbass.

  • What an intellectual.

  • From 5:41 to 6:05...my favorite part!!! So cute!

  • do u no that episode when he's in the poet shirt? Not the deadly assasin because sarah's there

  • True as as soon as JNT took over the series began goin down hill and sucked ass by the time it got to seventh doctor. Tom was right ot leave when he did. It was a sinkin ship.

  • Except McCoy, he was wonderful, second favourite after Tom

  • @trainerxpert I disagree, I think the 7th doctor things started changing and getting more interesting with the developments of having the doc manipulating events and having darker purpose and with the addition of a character like Ace who was given more depoth as opposed to just another damsel in distress, and that just when it started getting away from being childrens panto it got axed was a shame

  • Would've loved to have heard the whole interview - a real shame it wasn't complete. Regardless, the photo montage was beautiful - a real labour of love! thank you...

  • I remeber serah in the doctor who series she was a hottie

  • Wow, I really enjoyed this interview!

Tom Baker is my FAV Dr. Who, not to mention one of my fav actors! Does anyone know where I can see this doctor's episodes online? Or must I buy them on DVD somewhere? any info would be helpful

  • if you just google video search the episodes you'll find them.

  • Impresionante el dr who me acuerdo de cuando hera pequeño que la echaban en tv3

  • What a shame Tom Baker refused to appear in the five Dr's on Children in Need 1983. It's an equal shame that Peter Davison didn't last very long

  • "It's an equal shame that Peter Davison didn't last very long"

What was the difference? The writing sucked ass since the episode after he left until the first episode of the new series anyway.

  • 2:18-2:20 Torchwood? Is that fan art?

  • was torchwood going in those times??

  • That's what I was asking.

  • no, it's a recent thing.

  • Ok. I thought so. Thanks.

  • Ok. I thought so. Thanks.

  • love this doctor who

    also, check out Maestro Holland

    Great Ending

  • i have all 42 episodes of tom baker on dvd if anyonesinterested in buying them..

just message the sheik. you gotta live in america though.

  • hmm okay? how much?

  • How do you have them all on DVD when they're not all on DVD yet?

  • Iit would be quite simimple to convert a vhs recording to a DVD if you have a converter or a tivo, we have a bunch of Tpom Basker and Jon Pertwee on VHS and watch it all the time, we're planing on converting it to DVD just so nothing happens to the recording.

  • sorry about all the typos in my last message, I was typing fast.

  • Thank you for this! Where did you get all the pictures?

  • I always know I'm in for a treat when the theme song for the 4th Doctor begins. Hearing his voice is like being visited by a best friend. I can't help but think there is something of Tom Baker himself in his portrayal of the 4th Doctor. Even in his interviews where he points out the difference, I see a very intelligent man who enjoys life to its fullest.

  • Greetings from greece

we also loved tom Baker as Dr Who, although this series appeared in greek TV in middle 80's

  • Great interview thanks for sharing,I think its fair to say the last two Doctors have been based on Tom Bakers zainy style,Tennant and Ecclestone have both got the show rolling again, and done a great job...but Tom Baker is in my opinion the best.

  • I think besides K-9. We'd all like Tom Baker to find a way to become the Doctor again in the new series!

  • that voice of his... haha "would you like a drink?"

  • The only person in showbiz Id like to meet. Other than Kate Winslet, of course.

  • I agree Hodson. I can't imagine a night better than talking up Tom Baker in a good pub for a night. He's got to have the best stories.

  • The only doctor worth a damn.

  • lovely slideshow and a very interesting interview. thank you for uploading.

  • Tom was the best doctor on TV and I liked him!

  • you gotta love Tom.

  • He was the best and only real Dr Who in my opinion. Interesting interview. You gotta love Tom Baker.

  • Baker is absolutely barmy - lovely chap.

  • brilliant

  • Mad as a cartload of arseholes though!

  • Madder than that.

He's raining custard, mice instead of blood, batf*ck insane.

  • well based off of this one interview i find him delightfully charming, and he makes complete sense to boot. granted im biased from a childhood of watching him, but he didnt really say anything even remotely insane or crazy. now, his facial gestures...

yeah well thats crazy, in the best of ways

  • What a delightful chap, Tom Baker...
