Alainis has no presence onstage, very boring to watch, even more boring then Madonna..I'll give her credit for writing her own Material, something Madonna pretends to do. Alainis is a poet, not a singer, but good poetry. More a bohemian poet, like she'd like to be thought of. I saw some really corny footage on Alaina, she was very nerdy and wanted to be kool, hence she found a way to get people to notice her, but her stage skills lack alot of luster. No style & needs a good hair & make-up artist

I dont think Alanis was annoyed at Madonna as such, it's just that pretty much every interview she did during that period she was always asked the "Madonna" question. That's bound to piss off anyone, its not about Madonna, it's like being asked "What's you favorite color" in every interview, same thing happened with Candlebox - she's just over it.

You are so right, Madonna was the first who combined music with a sexy image. Whiich is an inovation she brought to the music industry.
Music must bring its EXTRAS. If it weren't so, we wouldn't need electric guitars and such. Just the old acoustic unplugged instruments would be fine.
Music evolves and so does its performance.

Rolling Stones magazine, what a great source... NO! Madonna was a PIONEER because she was one of the first to shake her ass in her videos that goes along with her catchy pop music. And now in 2007, all we've got from top female artists on Music Television is women shaking their ass! What a great innovation!!!

What I like about Alanis is that she doesn't need to ne surrounded by "top producers" to make a good album. She writes her own music and doesn't try that hard (like your favorite grandma Madge) to be famous. The good music has nothing to do with fame.

of course, good music is not related to fame. but if you are famous, it means people are listening - and madonna has proved to handle this power very well. she has really made a change on people's minds (in terms of sexism, homophobia, racism, for example) and constantly introduced underground themes into the mainstream by her videos and her music. and this is quite amazing for a mainstream pop artist - and i mean ARTIST.

madonna has done much more than just "shaking her ass". among other messages, she was expressing her sexual freedom, self-determination and independence - in contrast to today's pop chicks you are probably referring to.

actually, i did not know madonna knew alanis, i hate madonna's music and i have been listening to alanis since i was very little. madonna does seem nice and all, but i like alanis so much better and her music is amazing. i dont even listen to madonna
