It's true, you're not required to give your email address, and it's still free! :-).
To get informed about updates, you can configure yEd to check for updates on application start-up (see File > Preferences... > General tab), or you can manually initiate this check (see Help > Check for Update...).

I've not used yed, but looks like a great tool. And this presentation is awesome.
One question : Does it support the "dot" language for visualizing graphs?

yEd has no direct support for the "dot" language, however, you can convert "dot" files to GraphML files, which you can then open with yEd.
You can find the link to a Python script to do so in the yEd Q&A forum: yed.yworks.com/support/qa/
(Simply search for "dot" using the search field.)
The yEd Q&A is the best place for everything yEd.

how do i get updates of the editor? the site did not require me to provide any e-mail add when i downloaded it..
