The one thing about Buddhism that speaks to me is that I don't have to believe in dogma... I don't have to be part of any organization! That is the appeal of it!

Ya know, I do get that about Buddhism, particularly with the Buddhist woman (Rubina) previous episode. Yet still there appears to aspects of dogmatism that are available to be swallowed uncritically, such as why one sect wears white robes, while another wears red or orange. Likewise with this decoration of the dot on the forehead. It still seems like a dogmatic pretense to me.

@skepticoz It seems more like what is on offer in Buddhism, is more like a panoply individual dogmas, from which you may draw individual beliefs, rather than freethinking in the truest sense, wherein no assumptions at all are required or desired. From the perspective of an open minded freethinking skeptic, atheist and rationalist, there are still a few elements of religious dogma, which Buddhism is yet to shake loose. Did Buddha really exist, sit under a tree or receive enlightenment?

Beyond that we might ask where does this enlightenment come from? What is itś source? This seems to beg the question of a preexisting entity or perhaps a pantheistic anthropomorphism of nature from which higher beings or higher intelligences are assumed rather than inferred by rational means. Why anybody would decide that it´s important to pray to, worship, or pay homage to any historic individual, is beyond me. As for reincarnation, I mean seriously, do we really need to go there?
