Daniel is amazing and i you don't think so you'll never get it and if you complain about his voice check out his early recordings i you still don't like is voice than i don't know what's wrong with you.
great song, fIRHOSE does a great rendition of this song but since breaking up Mike Watt continues to perform the song live alot. if it's good enough for Watt it will always be good enough for me.
I have to agree. I think he's a very creative person with an interesting perspective on life and all that. His song writing is poetic and real....BUT, this guy just sings worse than most normal people in everyday life. I understand his appeal but there's one thing I dont' understand: Do people think he has a good voice?
His voice has changed alot over the years. He had a very unique gorgeous voice in his early years. Similar to a yelp even, but with age, meds, and smoking it has since changed. Still a legend regardless.
Like Dylan, he doesn't have a traditionally great voice, but it has character and is unique. I think he sounds pretty good hear--clear and medlodic, endearingly limited, even if he sometimes sounds uncertain and veers off key.
the thing is, people with "actual talent" end up righting songs that sound too perfect which ends up being too bland. its hard to explain what i mean, but after hearing some good recordings of daniels music, and then hearing more contemporary artists, i find myself bored.
after hearing this guy and watching the documentary..i feel sorry for him..i also hope that people realize that anyone who enjoys his music is probably just sub-consciously feeling the same...he simply does not have talent..and furthermore it upsets me that people who do have talent (i.e can play the guitar..and sing) go about licking this guy's balls..poor guy..but no more musical talent than my cat
easily..thats how...walking the cow ..C Am G..ya know eddie vedder of pearl jam used to play that song a lot and it wasn't too bad so i guess i'll say that he has some remedial songwriting talent.but he can't perform worth shit and to me that all but cancels out his relevance..nhorma your obsequiousness towards trivial music is laughable
Well, I respect him for his unique and creative perspective on life. I find no benifit in putting down his art. I am curious to know what you have done in life that is so great?
i have done nothing great in my life..but i also have never claimed to have either..i am not "putting him down" he is probably a great guy even though i dont know him..im just stating an opinion that his music is equivalent to giving a 4th grader a guitar, teaching him 3 chords, and telling him to write vague lyrics over it, i respect him as a person..just not his art..and for you..you can go fuck yourself
I didn't mean to offend you. Of course you are entitled to your opinion and I respect it, but I would like to make a possible distinction within it. I agree, at times his actual performance is not the most appealing experience. On that account you may be right. Personally, I enjoy his performance because it seems so raw and true. However, putting his performance aside, what about his songs as wholes? You don't need to the greatest guitar player nor singer to be a great songwriter. Give examples.
I have no idea what obsequiousness means, but you can be damn sure I will look it up to see if you're being a douche bag with it, and I'm pretty sure you don't know either.
He used to go off his meds a couple weeks before performing ...but was a bad deal, actualy took the keys out of his fathers plane and threw them out the window returning from one performance(thought he was casper and could fly) miricle they survived....hes doing much better now Needs those meds badly. you need to see the documentary its an unbelivable story this guy is a living legend.
i saw him in boston the other night and he was so amazing. Meet him before while he was drinking some ice tea and he was the nicest guy for that brief moment. Every song was truly touching, drew a couple tears
Hey AndrewLargmanJones, I took awhile to respond cuz I was actually looking for the answer myself...according to the rejectedunknown fansite his name is Brett Hartenbach...

he was just more tenor and crazy shrill back when he was young and not on meds.
it's sad what the Haldol drug has done to his body.
Add me on MySpace and I'll send you an embedded video link of Daniel as a fresh faced 23 year old performing. It's hard to find anything
other than 2 second clips of him young, because all that footage is owned by his family.
