  • Great fine and video

  • I forgot to mention, it also scores a '10' on the K.I.S.S. scale!!!

  • Dude, this a brilliant design! I would change/enlarge the top opening so you don't need a funnel to fill it but that's just a refinement. Like you, I REALLY like the sturdiness and built-in priming cup! I can't help wondering how many different cans you tried before hitting on the right one?

  • Very nice! Love the sturdiness of this design, and the jet pattern at that angle is perfect. Well done man, I'm stealing this one for sure ;)

  • I like how easy it preheats and lights up the jets that fast I will be looking out for those cans when I go to the store. good job!!

  • @intenseangler I made this stove, but the seal between the top portion and the primer pan isn't water-tight, so the heet just leaks out of it slowly. I was wondering if this was something that you may have faced in the making of this stove.

  • Full marks on this little baby...! - I have made a truck load of stoves over the last couple of years and some of them on on you Tube so I can appreciate your design here and it's top notch....and as my handle suggests... I just love fishing as well.

  • how do you handle the cans when they are hot off the stove?

  • Is there a inner wall in this stove ?

  • SICK STOVE. I would really really appreciate, a how to on this awesome stove :) Like for a HOW TO :)

  • When I built my first stove I was so excited I looked around the house for "stuff" to make another one and found my old Axe that I hardly used. So I made this same stove but a little taller so I didnt have the step down and didnt wind up having a primer bottom, but after making about 30+ stoves and giving away most, this one has lasted where the others bent or got tossed aside and this one goes with me everytime I go hiking. Now I'll make the one you have here, thanks man.

  • Good looking stove. Do you know what the boil time is for 2 cups of water? Most of what I have is the Foster/mini keg pots. How far up he sides to do the flames come on the Fosters/mini keg.

    Thanks.

  • @kphifer1 Thanks man, I appreciate that. The boil time isn't the fastest with this design (I think the original tests were around 10 mins for 2 cups), but it burned forever! I've tweaked a couple things on it since, and it knocked quite a bit off of the boil time. It works great with the Foster's/beer can pots... in fact, I use it for both my 20oz Fosters and 8oz "mini" pots. Hope that helps....

  • New to this, I would really appreciate a "how to make this" vid. It looks really great and very sturdy. I would assume you'd only have to make one and be done with diy stoves lol either way great job brother

  • @turbofiend1 My apologies for the super slow reply Bro. And thanks a bunch for the compliments on the stove by the way... I appreciate that. I've been thinking of doing a tutorial vid on how to make this stove... hopefully I can get it posted before too long here. Take care....

  • @intenseangler Nice stove, man. Keep posting!

  • Did another version of this style stove a while back. What I like is the toughness of it, as you said. You'd have to hit it with a rock to hurt it. Your's is a great design with that primer shelf. Very cool John

  • @slodeth5 Thanks John, I appreciate that buddy :-) I've got to look through your vids and see if I can find that one... you always have great ideas for stoves!

P.S. It's good to see my ol' friend "slodeth" again! ;-)

  • That's one of the best designs I've seen so far! I've looked at alot of diy alcohol stoves on you-tube and I have made a bunch of different stoves from these videos, but your's appears to be a great design. Fortunately for me, my youngest son uses Axe, so I can make a couple of this stove. Thanks again. Be safe out there.

  • @johnqsurvivor Thanks Brother! Cool deal that you have a good supply for these cans... that's the hardest part ;-) Take care man....

  • What a great design, gonna have to look for that design of can now. Thanks

  • @MrHatManS Thanks my friend. Happy can hunting! ;-)

  • thank you. i can't wait to do mine.

  • @cociubac You're very welcome friend! Glad you liked it :-)

  • Looks like a handy stove to have on hand! Great idea!

  • Like it!

  • @vwvr6t Right on... thanks!

  • Nice looking flame on this stove . Amazing what a person can think up sometimes and put together.

  • @aaeonfluxx2 I agree, it's always fun coming up with new ideas and sharing them with each other! Thanks my friend!

  • Cool.

  • @GunsKnivesSurvival Thanks Will. Man, I have entirely too much free time on my hands, eh? ;-)

  • Once again, great idea! I'm gonna try my hand at one of these when my current can of AXE runs out. Thanks! -Jon

  • @FloridaAdventurers Thanks Brother! Hope it works out for ya Jon!

  • thanks john would love for you to do diy vid on this stove

  • @bigdog32712 Thanks Brother. Ok, sounds good... I'll throw something together as soon as I get a chance :-)

  • Thanks John I wasn't very happy with the penny stoves I made. I will b trying this one. I actually bought a Gassifying wood stove. These things r amazingly efficient and u don't have to carry fuel. Ur stove looks like just the thing 4 my upcoming kayak camping trip

  • @cheekyricho Right on Brother... I hope it works out for you! I agree with you 100% on the wood stoves by the way... they are awesome not only because you don't have to mess around with the fuel, but you get the benefit of having a little campfire feel to your cooking too! :-)

Hope you have a great time on your kayak trip my friend!

  • Hey john have you tried to cap off the fill hole once it is fueled and ready to light to see if it will improve vaporization?

  • @cre8tivesolutions I haven't tried that yet, but I have a couple of mods that I want to test on this concept. Thanks for the tip my friend. Take care...

  • absolutely bloody marvelous. i pretty much think that is the best whee little stove i've seen to date. next time i go shopping with the missus i will shop with similar tins and containers in mind... to the annoyance of my wife!

  • @vanrooyendavid Thank you very much for the kind words my friend! Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who causes a little annoyance with my "hobbies", hehe ;-)

    Take good care...

  • very nice :)

  • @houseoffire72 Thank you my friend :-)

  • Great job John. May I suggest "The Axe Stove"? Can't wait to make one.

  • @ThatGuyThatHikes That definitely fits! Thanks Brother :-)

  • Awsome stove man. Great job.....

  • @ReeperzOutdoors Hey, thanks alot Brother!

  • Brother man you come up with cool ideas, I might have to steal that one from you, among others lol......

  • @ScoutsNOA Steal away Bro! lol

  • Cool video John. Very innovative.

  • @handyscot1 Thanks Brother!

  • Great stove I love it:o)

  • @Andersbork Thank you my friend!

  • I have been looking for a new alkie stove design to try out. I am making one of these as soon as my younger brother finishes up this current can! Thanks for posting!

  • @PariahOfTheKOHLM No problem at all my friend. Glad you liked it!

  • Looks like a great stove John, I really like the design. Great use of old deodorant cans.

  • @ColinOutdoors Thank you my friend! The coolest part is that I'll have the best smelling stove in the woods, lol ;-)

    Have a good weekend Colin!

  • Thanks man, 8 oz tomato sauce can hmmmm..... Cool, I probably have a few of them in the cabinet. Thanks for the advice and fast response Brother! See ya around :]

  • John, that design is awesome ! Very nice. I like the fact that you don't need a pot stand or seperate primer pan. hmmm.. I'll have to get back to the work bench ! Next stormy day... Thanks, PS your vids are looking great. Crag

  • @Cragdwella Thanks my Brother! I know what ya mean... I hate messing around with extra stuff, so it's always nice to eliminate it whenever possible! Glad I could help fill up your next stormy day man... sure beats the "honey-do's", eh? ;-)

  • Really looks great!!! Are you going to post a How to video on building it since you are the designer. Would really like to build one before the upcoming trip in Jan.

  • @kycanoecamper Thanks my friend! Yeah, I think that I will post a "how-to" vid on this one. I wasn't sure that people would be too interested or I would have just included it in this video. I have been pleasantly surprised at the response :-)

    Thanks again!

  • @Keister12 Thanks my friend, I appreciate that!

  • thanks

  • @bahdah1234 No problem my friend. Take care....

  • nice design brother!!! I like that stove a lot!!!

  • @bfd210 Thanks Bro!

  • cool stove. will have to try that one

  • @morticianfaller Thanks friend! You'll have to let me know how it works out for ya... :-)

  • Very nice! Makes me want one.

  • @oregonmikes Thanks Mike!

Hmmm... maybe I can talk Santa into bringing you one for X-mas ;-)

  • Nice, what diameter did you make each of your 16 jets?

  • @mudtoa Thanks Bro. I used a 1/16" bit for the jets. Hope that helps....

  • John, That was outstanding. Thank for the details excellent! Please stay safe! Bill Goudy

  • @BillGoudy Thank you Bill, I really appreciate that! Take good care!

  • Very cool design! Great job. Was thinking about making a stove from a can maybe I'll try that design, thanks for sharing.

  • @mainedwella Thanks MD! Good luck on your stove... I hope it works out well for ya on those awesome hikes in the Whites! :-)

Take good care my friend! -John

  • Great job I like it a lot....

  • @Tshirley015 Thanks my friend... appreciate that!

  • Great looking design buddy :o) If you pop the top off it will work the same but will be easier to fill :o) No funnel :o) Try it out man :o)

  • @Ggreenvideos Thanks Rich! Hmm... I'll have to try that out on the next one. I ended up drilling a few small holes in the top of this one for the fuel to drain into... seems to work out pretty good so far. Didn't like messing with that little funnel ;-0

    Take care Brother!

  • What can did u use to make the ring for that monster can?

  • @2kargarage1 It was from an 8oz tomato paste can. Hope that helps man....

  • Excellent design I really like it. I have one of those cans that I have been saving to possibiliy make a stove. This week week I will give your stove design a try. Thanks for posting this.

  • @MrPoppabear255 Thanks my friend, I really appreciate that! Hope your stove works out good for ya!

  • is this regular rubbing alcohol? dumb question I know, sorry :) great vid!

  • @Valerieannleeh The stove uses Heet. It is a gas line antifreeze that is sold and any auto part store or Meijers or Wal-Mart.It burns very clean and doesn't leave soot on your stuff like Denatured alcohol.

  • @Valerieannleeh No dumb questions here Val ;-)

I just use HEET, it's clean burning, efficient, and you can pick it up on the cheap just about anywhere. Hope that helps...

Thanks by the way! Take good care....

  • Yep, cool design, great boil time, and especially like the sturdiness factor. Well done!

  • @NewbieCamper Thanks my friend!

  • Your monster can is it the bfc? Or is it a the standard monster?

  • @foxdhmtbike It's the standard 16oz one.

  • That's sweet, i haven't seen any thing like it. The primer pan sets it apart.

  • @readyinthehills Right on! Thanks Brother!

  • nice stove.

  • @RebLin51 Thank you, I appreciate that my friend.

  • Did you use an inner wall as well or is it just the top and the bottom? Nice job!

  • @mzimmerman12 Thanks my friend. Yeah, it's just the top and bottom pieces... nothing too complicated here ;-)

  • Very stoked about the ease of priming and the quick transition to bloom.

  • @ProjectPurity Yeah, I was surprised at how quickly this thing lit up! Always nice stumbling upon new designs ;-)

  • Nice job john , fun project

  • @medicjimr Thanks Jim. A good way to pass those days when ya just can't get out ;-)

    Take good care my friend!

  • @intenseangler Yes it is. I have a few of those projects to do

  • This is the best designed stove I have seen yet. I am very impressed.

  • @Reallybigmonkey1 Oh wow Bro, thanks for the ultimate compliment man... much appreciated!

    Take good care Dave!

  • What a great idea! I've been wondering what to do with all those cans. Thanks for sharing it!

  • @kmanca1 Very cool. Glad I could help out my friend :-)

  • Excellent stove design John! You'll need to name it. I have not seen any like it, especially with the primer pan - and all made from one original can. Well done!

  • @wawhiker Thanks my Brother!

Oh boy, I'm horrible at naming things (you should hear some of my pets names, haha!)... I'll have to get your help on this one buddy!

  • Sweet! This is about the coolest stove I have seen yet. You have a really great design for probably the most efficient alcohol stove out there. Awesome video! Thanks for sharing, and great job!

  • @rondygal Thanks for the great compliment my friend, that really means alot! Best wishes!

  • Nice stove John, gonna have to try to make one of them now.

  • @DAYWALKERTWO Thanks Todd, I appreciate that my friend. I hope it works out good for ya!

  • Great Job John! rockin stove! I like the look of those axe cans to! Thanks !

  • @TomsBackwoods Thanks Brother!

  • Ilike that design you are a regular Mc Griver!!

  • @mick6701 Hehe. Thanks Brother!

  • it all looks good, like how hardy it is...

  • @snappa222 Thanks my friend... appreciate that!

  • i lik eit thx for posting ??!!! whats that long finger nail for ? :)

  • @daretohaveorangehair Thanks Brother!

The fingernail is to get people to comment on my vids.... I see it's working ;-)

Seriously though... it's just one of them weird little "quirks" we all have... mine are just stranger than some ;-)

  • @intenseangler ya it works LoL peace man !!

  • John, you had me at "plethora". (ha) That was an excellent video; how did you decide to use the Axe deodorant can? Amazing little stove. Do you use Heet as the fuel source?

  • @Winkiedoodles Haha! I've been waiting to use a big word in one of my videos for awhile now ;-)

I was just messing around trying to come up with a better stove for my Winter hiking setup, and had that old can laying around. I did use HEET... it seems to be the most efficient (and clean burning) fuel for these little stoves.

I have too much time on my hands lately... I think the Missus is getting tired of me trying to burn the house down though, so I may be getting out for ALOT of fishing soon!

  • Nice

  • @2kargarage1 Thanks my friend.

  • Very good design.

  • @rileyphillip Thank you kind Sir... very much appreciated :-)

  • thanks for sharing

  • @dragonflyhiker You're welcome Todd. Thanks for watching and commenting Brother!

  • I really like that design and all of your diy vids for that matter...keep them coming! I would however be very interested to know the boil time and amount of alcohol for two cups in the fosters pot for use with rehydrating meals. Have you done any experimented with that yet?

  • @AdventureSeekersPJP Thanks Brother, I appreciate that!

I actually did a few boil tests and posted the results in the description area just a little bit ago. It boiled 2 cups in just over 8 mins. using a little more than half an ounce of HEET. Not the fastest, but it seems to be fairly efficient. Hope that helps....

  • Very cool

  • @PaulDeFitter Thank you my friend!

  • Cool stove !!!!

  • @OutdoorChautauqua Thanks my friend!

  • Nice little stove there John. The built-in primer pan is a cool feature. Why not cut out the inside top ring for a larger fill hole? As a rule, I don’t use body sprays but I’ll look for this can to see what it looks like.

  • @Woodenarrows Thank you Jim. Yeah, I ended up drilling a few small diameter holes in the top of the can so that the fuel can just be poured directly in... seems to work so far. Using that little funnel was a pain, lol.

  • Looks like a new design to me. Nice!

  • @fishwolfSBK Right on! Thanks man!

  • Alcohol stoves are very cool. I think you are the first for this design John... quick, run to the patent office! Good job.

  • @cyclist01222 I'm off and running Brother! Haha! ;-)

Thanks my friend! And take good care!

  • Nice stove John, I haven't seen that kind of stove out there anywhere. And I have looked at a bunch, Hey I seen the video of how to install that ring in the pot on your other video, may I ask what can & brand to get the ring for the jumbo Monster can? I really like the little cooking pot and the cool thing is they come in so many colors. Thanks Brother for the post.

  • @meatmangary Thanks Brother... I'd hate to take credit for someone else's design! As far as the ring: I used an 8oz tomato paste can for the Monster pot, and a jalapeno can for the bigger pot... I forget the brand names, but I think I show both cans in one of the other 2 "pot" videos that I did. Hope that helps Bro. If not, let me know and I'll look 'em up for ya ok.

    Take care Gary!

  • I thought you were strictly campfires? LOL ;) c

  • @SoulSurvivorX2 Shhh... let's keep this between us ok? ;-)

P.S. How are those cool "bottlestoves" working out for ya by the way? They looked pretty wicked!

  • I love that it has a built in priming tray no need to wrap a wick around it or worry about alcohol dripping on to the ground.

    Great job

  • @digitizer101 I agree... I've always disliked having to mess around with priming pans. Plus it's fun watching the way it fires as it primes! lol

    Thanks!

  • You are making me rethink how I shop.

  • @Vocalist1969 Glad I could help ;-)

  • That is cool! Great design! I love stuff that's built to last!

  • @CrypticCRICKET Thanks my friend, I really appreciate that! And I'm with you... it's better to build it to last than to build it over and over! Take care....

  • Great stove! To me, matching the stove to the pot is the key. Fun stuff!

  • @ridebks Thanks Brother! I actually have to give you some credit on this man... all those cool stoves that you've been coming up with have made me break out the cans and start trying to find the perfect setup for my system. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Really a great idea John.

The stove's really awesome and works great.

Thank you for the great work brother.

    All the best.

    Greetings Tito

  • @Naturliebe Thank you very much Tito... I appreciate your kind words as always my friend!

    Very best regards! -John

  • The HEET is on and off it goes!

    Hey John!

Nice "find" again, looks like made for being transformed into a burner/stove.

    CU, Tim

  • @steintanz Haha! Thanks buddy!

Gotta love playing with anything that has to do with fire, eh? ;-0

    Take care my friend!

  • what size type of can did you use to get a ring for that energy drink pot. I tried a fosters pot and a tuna can ring and found the ring to be too big eve after stretching the can as you described in your video. Maybe I should have stretched the fosters pot with another foster can first, but you video made it look so easy. I would like to try it again with a smaller can and ring but could use some more specifics.

  • @spectre9801 I used an 8oz tomato paste can I got from the dollar store (I think I show it in my "Nesting Pots" video). As far as the Foster's pot ring: That jalapeno can I used on the first pot has been the best fitting one so far for a ring, but I have made a couple since using generic tuna cans from Walmart... they work really well if you sand the outer part of the ring a little before installing. I have noticed that some cans are practically the same size, but have minor variations in size,

  • Great idea!!! I need one of those!

  • @debistogs Thanks Debi!

P.S. I'll have a talk with "Santa" and see if he can't get you one for X-mas ;-)

  • @intenseangler Oh wow!!!! That would be great John. You are too sweet!

  • That is a really cool stove and a great Idea John. I wonder if that design will work with other spray type cans like sunblock or hairspray. Thanks for the video.

  • @woodscraftoutdoors Thank you my friend. Hmm, I'm not sure to be honest... the unique thing about the AXE can is that it has that stepped-down taper that allows it to fit snugly into the bottom section. If you come across anything like it you'll have to let me know. Take care!
