  • i do believe that i can die now.

  • Breathtakingly beautiful! THIS is REAL music!!! :)

  • Totaly AWESOME....two great performers!

  • Which one is the lady? JUST KIDDING, that was totally awesome!!!!!!

  • tears.

  • Best duet ever!!!!

  • This WORKS!!!! Incredible.

  • That boy Stevie is a musical genius!

  • This is a powerful performance!

  • That is a great one. I wish I'd seen it before.

  • When and where was it?

  • bobby hated his toupee and use to through it off after gigs

  • jamming big time x

  • this jamming at its best xx

  • it just doesn't get much better than this !

  • Mr. Darrin is no slouch when it comes to singing but goddamn does Stevie leave him in the dust.

  • Bobby boy had the jungle fever

  • Thank you so much for putting this online. It's marvellous. !!!!!!!!!!!

  • i never heard of bobby darin but i will always be thankfull for this song

  • Stevie is the SHit!!!

  • bobby is so cool..even if he faults..

  • I knew Bobby had some soul!

  • wow thats jamming ...fantastic,great we need more of that ,,,,shame bobby died 20th dec 1973

  • Bobby was the greatest, even here he pulls it off big time.......RIP

  • No one ever can reach this level of singing of Stevie here in this clip. Don't forget that he is blind, cannot see any writing, but he sings so soulful and par excellent by filling in the gaps which are left bei Bobby. So they gave us here a nice version of their talents...

  • @damngrooveman yeah, stevie was bursting with musical expression like no other..it shone out of him like light. When he comes in on the second verse its one of the best musical moments I have ever heard. Darin is of course fantastic as well, a true musician's musician and a gentleman.

  • Great duet and I never knew they performed this hit song.

  • ABTHOLUTELY MIND BLOWING

  • Great!

  • good bit of jamming xx

  • GRAMMY ALERT! Bobby finally gets the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award Jan 30, 2010!

  • wow, that was indeed awesome, theres a great chemistry there

  • THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!!

  • And to think Stevie Wonder sang duets with beyonce Faith Hill, and Shania Twain, huh? The three of them combined don't have a fraction of Bobby Darin's talent!

  • @landrykkb so true

  • excelente¡¡¡bravo¡¡¡los 2 una maravilla¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Great, great, great!

  • One of the neatest things about this video is that in spite of the fact that both singers miss a few cues, flub a few lyrics, have mic/vocal balance problems, sometimes become inaudible, and occasionally clap off-beat ...

... their performance is perfect. Absolutely perfect.

I wouldn't want them to change a thing! They're both so relaxed -- such naturals. And it's evident how much they respect each other; how much they love the song they're singing. That's where the mojo comes from.

  • Bobby Darins talent is trmendous. Even if todays so called "stars" could magically become 100times better they would still be 100times worse then Mr. Darin.

  • Sometimes something is so great,

so perfect, it brings tears to my eyes!

  • Used to have this on video like back 10 plus yeasr ago !!!

  • DAMN....WHAT A COMBO!! BOBBY`S SOULFUL LOW with STEVIE`S SOULFUL HIGH....HEAVENLY : )

  • SUCH A GOOD HEART

  • This is silly good. It has to be available in digital somewhere. Somebody, please, clue me in.

  • Wow this totally blew me away - amazing combination and great rockin' version of the song. Sometimes Magic happens in unforseen places and this was it.

  • Awesome!!!!!

    5 stars...thanx!!!

  • Why isn't this on DVD?! This is historic footage, besides being a great performance.

  • Good question... a copy of this show is in the Museum of Radio and Television, but it's not a master... it was recorded and donated by someone who worked on the show. My understanding, just like many of the 60s era Tonight Show episodes, this series was mostly erased so they could reuse the expensive video tapes.

  • @WookieCookie yeah.. they probably erased it, I mean it's just Stevie Wonder and Bobby Darin singing a Tim Hardin's song. who would wanna watch that? And tapes are expensive.

  • Me to. Stevie wonder was no surprise to me, Just hear about bobby last week things just keep getting better.

  • brilliant

  • Wow.

  • and id put you above me

  • Darin and Wonder - there's no screen

big enough to hold that talent!!

  • Coupla soul men!! Love them both. Wish Bobby was still with us. Such talent, died so young.

  • This was Kraft Music Hall, from 1969. I wish it were available of DVD. Bobby did 4 Kraft Music Hall shows.

  • i wish they could clean up the audio on this one it is a true classic and belongs in a vault.

  • the band got excited, brilliant!!!

  • stevie holding back...

  • This has got to be one of the greatest videos on YouTube.

  • Sweet, real sweet. From the days when TV was populated by REAL Talent.

  • that song makes me all misty i don't know why- beautiful

  • seriously.

  • thank god for youtube otherwise we would never have seen the likes of this

  • To see them together...just terrific!

It must have been a special moment for both of them. May not have been rehearsed seems like spur of the moment duet. Either way, a precious video. Thank you.

  • what is the history of this song? when was this show recorded.

  • 1968.

  • @malscott Tim Hardin wrote the song and his publishers sold it to Bobby Darin in 1966 just before Hardin's version was released. Darin got the hit off it but despite some people trying to turn it into a rift, Hardin was grateful for both the money and the exposure from it. In 1969, Hardin got the hit off of Darin's Simple Song of Freedom. This particular show was in 1969.

  • @liverpoolishgirl wow that seems like ages ago i left my comment i dont remember what i said in it. but thanks for the info. i have learned since tm also performed the song at the woodstock music and arts festival i saw that vesrsion somewhere but i didnt think it was as vibrant as this version. but one particular version that johnny cash and june did together thats here on youtube i think is still my favorite. i dont recall hearing bobby darin doing it. i'll look that one up.

  • Such charisma and familiarity about him, one can only wonder what would have been if Bobby hadn't passed away. RIP BOBBY.

  • mr wonder simply amazing,he is an angel im sure, love mr darin god rest his soulfull soul.

  • A rare pairing, and a stunning performance by two fantastic entertainers. Wonderful.

Feel free to check out my jazz & swing blog, if you like -- for link see my profile.

    Cheers,

    Brew

  • the only problem with this is, bobby should have moved the mic more in the middle, couldnt really here stevie, but still great

  • maybe Stevie's voice was so strong, 'they' needed to keep the mic closer to Bobby? I don't know. really beautiful rendention. brought tears to my eyes . WOW

  • Great!

  • 2 legends!

  • Wasn't this the old "Hollywood Palace?"

  • @dbd1353 No, Kraft Music Hall 1969 show.

  • Thank You for posting this!!!

  • goosebumps they dont make them like that anymore.

  • Bobby Darin was so versatile. It's a long way from Splish Splash to this song. What a talent... R.I.P.

  • sweet soul music. Rough, sensitive, and befriending

  • That was a 12 out of 10 on the cool meter.

Wow. More vintage stuff of BD. That's so awesome. I love to see new old stuff from Bobby.

What was the name of the show?

Thank you so much for posting that. I'm so inspired by it.

  • Bobby should have stared off, then just sat back and enjoyed Stevie.

  • Wow...awesome...that is a jus too cool.

  • What an incredible performance! I love them both, and they sound amazing together.

    Thanks for posting;-)

  • What's with Bobby's do? And is there a better argument for why moustaches, in general, should be avoided? I mean, BD was always a pretty cool looking guy, but he looks silly with that combination of slicked back hair, 'stache, and sideburns. Did he have some kind of hair transplant later on? Notice the 1973 live, solo version of this song: his hair volume appears to have doubled from what it was in this earlier performance.

  • my take is that this video was done in 1969...at that time/point most men, not all, wore the stash/had long burns but their hair weren't slicked back sort to speak. I myself for example had the burnes, stach but my hair was not greased or slicked back, was worn long just like his 73 video and even longer. No, I believe he did not have a transplant. His hair was not greased or at least not greased as it might have been in 1969.........

  • @pkappel006 No, he just went back to the toupee after 70. No transplants.

  • he's not wearing his hairpiece on this show.

  • he didnt have his hairpiece on here.

  • Back when stevie still had some talent.

  • ahahahahaha. Seriously?

  • Yes seriosly! When was the last time he had a dececent recording singing his own song and one of his old ones?

  • I've seen many covers of this song...no one sings it like Bobby

  • Amazing totally amazing. More talent never existed on one stage.

  • do they give lessons or what? gimme gimme gimme!

  • goosebumps? yes!

When you see Stevie singing like this, you're seeing someone in another universe, totally lost in a world of sound, like floating free in musical space. I know that sounds pretentious - don't know how to express it. Total respect.

  • Two guys who loved (or love, in Stevie's case) to sing. Give it up.

  • Is all this great American music video footage as bad as this? Someone should preserve this legacy for our kids.

  • I hope & pray that future generations **ALWAYS** are able to see such great singers of the past : ) Both of these men (were and are) so special & unique in there own right....what a brilliant performance...love them both so, dh

  • STEVIE ALWAYS MAKES ME CRY.THANK YOU

  • Wow, Does any one get like goos bumps?

I did the whole way through.

  • Brilliant!

  • i was listening to bobby darins version of this song today..i love how everyone sings it different...and stevie wonder kicks ass

  • Bobby's the best stevie well we know he's a genius

  • MAn my song would be "If I were there"

I could easy die after. Yeaaah :0

  • This is absolutely spine tingling. Performances such as this crystallize humanity in each of us. Fantastic post!

  • What an awesome clip!

I never knew these guys sang together.

They cranked it up a notch, eh?

Thank you so much for posting this.

    A real gift.

    5 stars

  • PURE GOLD!!! This is super talent!!! How did you ever get this???

  • Wow! Will you look at how young Stevie is here! What a treat - these two together .

  • makes me cry but absolutely lovely, thank you!

  • Awesome

  • Nice song, nice vid, a little low quality, both sound and picture. :( But it's an old vid.

  • THESE PERFORMANCES WERE SOOO WONDERFUL AND 60'S AND 70'S TELEVISION WAS LOADED WITH EVERY FAMOUS SINGER AND THEY DID IT ALL, MAYBE WITH SHOWS LIKE AMER IDOL AND SUCH THE REAL STARS WILL START DOING TV AGAIN.. THE ENEMY IS COPYRIGHT LAWS! the music and film industry is drowning in laws

  • I think the beat was modified out of the ballad to a more upbeat r&b flavor.

  • Stevie just gets into a zone. love him

  • I just can`t get enough of this video !!!! I watch it {in detail} alot & am Amazed every darn time.....true JOY they left for the future, dh

  • utterly brilliant isn't it? i keep coming back to this performance time and time again.

  • ... unforgettable

  • Hello dhdarin45,

well you are right, absolutely. Sorry for misunderstandings. I paid attention in my comment only on Stevie, because he is my favorite singer. BD is also great, that's why I like his "carpenter" Live 1973,too.

    Hope, you agree.

    Kdl.rgds. from Berlin/Germany

  • "Sweet, Sweet music"****the heart beat of the whole wide world !!!!! Both, full of rhythm-n-soul.......HEAVENLY !!!!!!!

  • Very cool

  • incredible

  • amazing!! ...and judging by the fact Bobby comes in early on a verse shows they never rehersed this....makes it all the better dont you think?

  • YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!! LIVE, (at that moment), brings great, fun, memmories that are never forgotten---just doesn`t get any better then this......smiles, dh

  • Absolute - F**kin genius...

  • Wow! One of YouTube's gems! Thanks to WookieCookie for posting.

  • you said it,a total gem...

  • Well, this is a real treasure!I'm a big fan of Stevie since 1966 (then I was 13) and in 1968 was released "Shoo be doo da day". In this video you can see Stevie's whole power and ability output - from when he hum along in the beginning until the end, when he is shaking...absolutely great.Soul music at it's best and Bobby had problems to follow Stevie's groove and acappella...

  • I don`t know?--what I see, is them both loving the moment and feeding of each others groove !!!! Bobby Darin was a man who loved all diversities of music and always showed it with sooo much "passion"--as did Steveie!!! God, their voices were so great together***I love them both***its true heaven hearing and seeing them sing together & I think the world agrees!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dh

  • Riveting. Absolutely brilliant. Bobby & Stevie doing Tim hardin's masterpiece.

  • its absolutely awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow! two great voices and such talent

  • bobby i love you. you are one of a kind i wish to god that you were still here

  • Amen, to that !!!!!! ****DARIN FOREVER****dh

  • What show is this from? I would guess, just from looking at Stevie, it is from the late 60's - early 70's. Is it possible this is from Flip Wilson's show? Looks like some of the background props I've seen on his show. This was a true gem though. These two giants sounded great together. Stevie looks like he's about 20 years old! Just great!

  • I just got done reading all 102 comments of this unbelievable video!!! Can`t believe that there are people still out there that believe Bobby stole this song from Tim Hardin....Bobby expressed to the world.... how he got this song and has always honored Tim Hardins awesome writings!!!! Both these men had and have "True rhythem & Soul" and should go down in history as Legendary singers!!!! I love them both.........dh

  • What a remarkable***soulful version of this song!! Both feeding off the groove... of the other !!!!! Two icons of the musical industry***Thank You Wookie-Cookie, for posting this joyful performance!!!!!

  • very nice!

  • shivers,outrageously good,despite the mistakes,brilliant

  • Stevie is a musical genius.

  • THAT is fkn brilliant!

  • Thanks for posting. I agree wth the other comments. An outstanding find! Loved the sideburns.

  • You gotta know this is the reason why You Tube is so big. This is great.

  • F'in A , brother....a great find....

  • Finding gems like this is why I love Youtube. Brilliant clip.

  • GREAT !!!

  • Bobby looks so much older with that cheesy mustache.

  • WOW!!! That was an awesome performance.

  • I've watched this video probably a hundred times. Still gives me shivers.

  • totally agree - powerful...specially stevie

  • I had that EXACT same feeling...right when Stevie came in with the high notes and for the rest of the show. Outstanding video. ^5 to WookieCookie for posting this fabulous work of art.

  • bobby darrin and stevie wonder...wow!

  • this is the most beautfle duet ever. The did something so unespected, and on the end it is so...........(dont have words to describe it). Amazing.

  • crimminall... beautiful, unexpected...

  • thx, I'm glad that there is still someone who understand music. Greetings from Croatia.

  • Without doubt my favourite youtube clip. Thank you.

  • I second that!

  • You know, this is just SO good, and doubly so because it's so Unexpected-who ever heard of this-?? Thanks once again for putting this up.

  • Beautiful

  • Pure magic.

  • I thought I commented on this but maybe not... from a live music perspective this is the most emotional clip for me when I have a few guinness in me... kudos to you for late night loveliness....

  • yeah def - its true - its an amazing clip

  • send shivers down my spine - pure soul

  • shivers down the spine sits nice with me...hands to you.

  • I love the way Stevie influences Bobby as this song moves along. It's very subtle and so obvious.

  • eremor, how can it be subtle AND obvious? Those are diametrically opposed.

  • Hey djparrish01, I meant to use subtle as an adjective, which allows the word to be substituted for skillful, clever, etc,. Some folks tend to look a little too close at things that do not affect their own lives. I like to refer to it as the Gladys Kravitz syndrome. In your post perhaps (They are) would have been a better choice instead of (Those are). Those are....sounds sort of...well...clunky.

  • hehah...subtle and obvious is something to few of us understand....I agree to you.

  • "Those are" is grammatically correct.

  • Also, "subtle" has NEVER meant skillful or clever. Seriously, check your dictionary on that one.

  • Get a life.

  • i absolutely agree.

  • I absolutely love this song. Haven't heard a version yet that I don't like.

  • I remember seeing this on TV ... it was great then and still is, thank you.

  • soulful! great! thanx 4 posting...fr. a new BD fan

  • brilliant upload, thanks!
