If I was Senate Majority Leader, I would ram the Public Option down the blue dogs throat and a couple of Republicans. And give it a name with a logo of a bald eagle. not not a weak one a strong one that minus well be single payer. make it start in 2011. cut right into insurance companies profits. make them crooks compete. The public option is just and expantion of medicare with much higher premiums. The fraud in medicare/medicaid is ramped and out of control. It cost taxpayers billions each year. As well as adding to the high cost of private healthcare. We have a private healthcare system but private is not free market when Government calls all the shots.

Their reimbursment rates add to high cost of private insurance by being in some cases below cost for hospitals and Doctors who then make up that cost by charging the private sector more. Unlike people without health insurance, homeowners have access to public option flood insurance.

You're right memama2, government health care plans are costly and under-funded and are constantly cutting programs and benefits. Not only will the quality and availability of government-run health care be sub-standard, but by this public option being in the system, it will negatively affect the over-all quality of all health care. This was Reids opus, a brilliant move.

The "opt-out" provision, in the bill, is a nightmare come true for the HC industry. Red states that opt-out will not be able to compete with the public option, they will be cutting their political throat.

An opt-out of the public provision for states does make the health care bill more likely to be accepted by many senators and states. I still hope they completely get rid of any government competitive option. Government has never known how to compete with any industry and they will be coming back to this option and feeding it money later which means it will be an unfair option to private industry. And it spends our hard earned tax dollars just to get this option setup. Stop it, already!

The government can't compete with private industry, so it will throw more $ at an unfair competition. Just look at why we have so much competition to the post office that used to be an all government program.
