I too find it very ironic she won this competition, while in gymnastics her dance is often critisized. I just saw her new floor routine's dance, and sadly it didn't really get better.

this is a BALLROOM samba for gods sake people. Its not a brazilian samba. This is a ballroom dance show after all, ballroom samba and a brazilian samba are very different. Its like comparing an argentine tango to a ballroom tango, both quite similar but at the same very different.  i just love how effortless she makes all the moves seem.

They're deceiving the audience when selling these dances and moves as samba! Have you even heard the gorgeous rhythm of the samba? I'm sure these guys from the show haven't or they would be ashamed of it! Really!

If this is meant to be a DANCE show, then they should require the real deal. They only expect the show,the wow, not the real moves. It's a shame.

All these criticisms about what is or isn't a samba -- all I can write is talk is cheap. If you can do better, it's a different story. But the show is made for non-dancers, so there is going to be some laxity in the difficulty of routines.

It is samba music, and there are samba elements. It's more hustle sounding, but the the rhythm is the same, when you break it down. He had to get something really slow. Trust me, samba at full speed for teaching beginners SUCKS, especially in a week. He played it smart, was entertaining, and let her have an easy time. It's supposed to be fun. If the producers wanted technical, no one would tune in after the second week.

tgbap, this dance is called international ballroom latin samba. it is 1 of the 5 dances of international ballroom latin(cha cha cha, samba, rumba, paso doble, and jive). It was created in in england, in the nineteen fifties as a social dance along with international standard dances (waltz, foxtrot, tango, vienesse waltz and quickstep.) it has nothing to do with brazilian samba with the exception of the rythm.None of the millions who dance this in the entire world claims it's brazilian samba. :)
