  • Was Tom Jones the first to add the word "maybe" to the lyrics? Because with all due respect to John Lee Hooker, it makes the lyrics 9000 times more beautiful...

  • Praise the Lord! :)

  • Its Kevin Nash? Oh no, its the Tiger. ^^

  • Heee...eeeee...yeeeaaa....jeeee..

  • okay, let me just get the blasphemy out of the way. this is better than john lee hooker's original. tom sounds like a 70 year old black man on this.

  • TOP!!! ;o)

  • crap i wish to be on his concert, he s my best..... i missed in Budapest (francba) and i missed 2 days ago in Brno (do riti)...it was just no tickets when i found out he will sing there !!!! jesus..... just be once on his concert....he s the guy !!! SIR TOM, 4ever

  • I was on the concert in Budapest. I really missed the other pieces from this album!!!

  • I saw him last night in the concert and this was one of the highlights of the show

  • He's changed the lyrics! instead of "ain't no heaven" he sings "MAYBE there ain't no heaven"

and instead of "when I die, where I go, nobody knows" ...he fudges that one too.

    no guts, no glory

  • So much tension in this song. Wonderful.

  • Is a John lee Hooker song.Tom is a bluesman of heart

  • Perfect! Less is much much more!

  • Perfect!

  • Great example of "less is more"! It's about delivery, attitude and tone.

  • Izgalomba hozott a mely hangja Thenks

  • damn, the guitar kicks butt on this, eh ? hardly ANYthing to this song , just a powerful voice , a mean guitar and a couple bashes on the drums......COOL. very ''White Stripes'' !!

  • wow, white hair

  • yeaaah! gooog music real blues stuff

  • I'm a classic rock fan (Stones, Zep, The Who) and when I heard Tom Jones perform this on The Late Show with David Letterman, he just blew me away! The man won't quit! I have to believe that John Lee Hooker would be proud of this cover.

  • makes me proud to be welsh :D

  • Mr. Jones you are so awesome! I can't wait to buy this sound track. You still got it. I just love the bluesy style combined with gospel music! Keep it coming!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I heard this on XM and thought I was listening to a new Jack White recording. I hit the info button and flipped out to see it was Tom Jones. Anyone know the name of the guitarist? I've got to find out his tuning. In some of the live videos I can just about make out how to play this but I can't get it exactly right. It's simple but not easy.

That vocal is astonishing. All the power and emotion are still there.

  • Come on you guys Tom Jones has still got it going on. What a voice . And love this song . He is truly a awesome Welch.

  • Hard core I'm buying this

  • Well, it's OK. But John Lee Hooker's original version was still better.

  • This man is just amazing! he can cover anything and give it a truely different sound. There are very little artists out there today young or old that has have the talent this man STILL HAS!

  • @LesSmith45 I like your statement !

Yes, this man is just amazing ! His carrier is bigger then life , because of his stunning vocal power and sensual voice, awesome presentation and unique style !

  • @bibi5112 Thanks for the reply. I have seen him twice once at local tribal casino and once on the waterfront in down town Seattle. That was about 10 yrs ago. Both were great shows. I would love to see him again. Take care

  • I'm goin' down to the Church House, get down on my bendin' knee. Deacon Jones please pray for me. To me there ain't no Heaven, to me there ain't no burnin' hell. NO Yeah hey, I'm goin' down to the cross roads, with no Devil will I make a deal. When I die where will I go, when i die where will I go, won't some body tell me! Yeeaaahhhh. Great version Ol' Tom!

  • yea, on fire that´s was the right word, yhank you for finding it!!!

  • good cover tom.. but J.L.Hooker did it better..

  • @tattooshopjunkie i agree, and i bet Tom does too... still worth doing, even if you cannot surpass the all-time best at something. this is just Tom's contribution. hopefully he gets some folks also to listen to John Lee...

  • @tattooshopjunkie not realy Tom is much better and total another Sound better sound and better voice bye Tom

  • I saw Sir Tom yesterday at the New Orleans Jazz Fest. He opened with a scorching rendition of Burning Hell and didn't let up for an hour and a half. He stayed away from his campy stuff and gave the crowd a heavy dose of Blues, R&B and funk. Amazing.

Oh, and rwbrdms 1, Bonamssas' version of Burning Hell sounds like he was performing it for a room full interior decorators.

  • As we used to say, this "Kicks Ass".

  • I'm Metalhead, but I love this album , for sure, this song is so awesome!

  • The man has been rocking for ever. he's one of a kind.

  • This blows. Joe Bonamassas version is much better.

  • @rwbrdms1 Nobodys version can be better at Tom tom is the Voice and He is the Best !!!

  • @ataryify Umm, no.. this totally blow blows, tom tom sucks sucks. .

  • when my bro was a resident in NYC Tom would check into his hospital to get his STD's treated

  • Love this man!!!!

  • Great cover by Mr. Jones .... This is a song written and originally done by John Lee Hooker ... The original title was Burnin' Hell

  • love the rawness it so works

  • grew up with Tom Jones' song!!!my mother big fan of TOM now me..Thank you Tom for this awesome album

  • It was by accident that I've heard a couple of songs from this album on the radio while driving in my car(though I recognized it was Tom didn't know it were songs from his new album at that moment) and I thought my god that Tom Jones (to mention he's not my favourite singer) has made some fucking good songs on this album. It was a surprise to me as I knew him as a hit maker only.I couldn't have believed such good songs could be made these days,it's all so natural and powerful. That's why I'm here.

  • great guy/great voice and hes a Woodward from ponty like my gran was

  • Holy crap - the man's balls are on fire!!!

  • @gruffers LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Legend!

  • Thats tuff and I love it fellers bring the pain.

  • Please pray for me.

  • Tom is still great ! (Ya know on his song "It's Not Unusual.... Jimmy Page is on guitar !)

  • @TacomaPaul ..... The musical arranger was Les Reed.(also one of the composers of this song) Although the guitar has been cited as having been provided by Jimmy Page later of of Led Zeppelin, Reed has clarified that the only guitarist was Joe Moretti who was also known as the guitarist for Jonny Kidd & The Pirates' Shakin' All Over session.

  • amazin!

  • i used to think Tom Jones was shit. His music was too soft and pussy then but i have to say this is the best version of this song ive ever heard and its good to hear him singin some REAL music. John Lee hooker is a legend by the way!!

  • This is a great song. I love the live performance he did on Letterman. It blows the studio version away. Tom Jones is a phenomenon to be experienced live.

  • what a feckin song man! love the rock n roll blues!

  • you legend! I freeking love you! xxx

  • pardon my language, but FUCK YEA!!!

  • I seen him in concert 20yrs. ago , and Honey he's still got !!! Ummm Ummmm!!!

  • THE GREATEST VOICE ON THE PLANET TODAY,AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT HIS VOICE IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO WHAT IT WAS 30 YEARS AGO, WHEN HE WAS YOUNG HE USED TO SMOKE 2 PACKS A DAY TO GET THAT RASPYNESS,SINATRA SAID HE HAS THE GREATEST VOICE EVER. AFTER THE KING I AGREE.

  • Incredible that a man his age has preserved his voice so well. Too many musicians sound like crows before they reach 50.

  • Maybe what happened for Johnny Cash late in his recording career is about to happen to Tom Jones. Jones has found a new musical niche and he is great at it. The blues? With all that vocal weight behind it? Can't miss. People who didn't like Jones in the early days really should reconsider this Tom Jones. I have.

  • Look at him, with his white hair he has now truely become the god of music

  • fuckin great song

  • IMPRESSED!

  • see??????????? i've always loved jones...... the power...... where you you people???? delilah..... jesus..... this is music worth buying... not puff daddy or juju or bleble or mumu or gaga... fuck off. really. you been spanked

  • Fantastic!!!!!! Tom Jones is like red wine, better with age.

  • Out in the middle of nowhere at my ranch. Letterman in the background, only channel I can get. Thinking its time to put the guitar in the attic cause rock aint rockin anymore.

And then I hear this lone mean blues/rockin guitar. Then a lean mean drum groove. Then I hear this voice singing some bad ass bayou blues.

So I look up from book I'm reading ( shadow divers) and yell for my son and then we both just start smiling and I got goose bumps. Tom Jones lookin Good and Rockin the blues! WOW!

  • sounded awsum live on letterman, actually better than the studio version

  • @scotte549 i saw it first there, but this is ALSO pretty awsome!

  • Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd ever dig Tom Jones. Burning Hell rocks! I bought it iTunes store.

  • tom jones should be god

  • great as usual....it's not unusual.

    He's the best.

  • @Zebonka I guess, if that is where your focus is....... trash in trash out........ mind in the gutter......... etc....... I see a man whose trying to get right with God because he knows time is short and every man shall bow to Christ........... like it or not Amen

  • Nah. I'll be Hell with Dio and Zeppelin.

  • @horsthilbert No idea what you're saying, but I agree.

  • sweet guitar riff! this is soo cool

    fuck justin beaver

  • @VolcomStone128 Justin Who?

  • the man is a true performer. trying different stuff even after all these years. love the guitar in this song.

  • Saw saw Tom (by accident!) on David Letterman the other day and he did this song...oh my goodness gracious...pure heaven. He really only needs his voice to produce magic but his very basic band was brilliant! There will NEVER be another TJ.

  • just watched this live on Letterman, fkn niiiiiiiice

  • ACtually just heard this on David Letterman and yea it's better live...insane. Not a huge Tom Jones or anything but the arragment is awesome...it was only a 3 piece too. Tom Jones, A drummer, and a guitarist.

Live is has much more emotion and the guitarist sounded much cleaner and he also switches on the fly to clean and distorted in a subtle way. The drummer also did some great subtle playing you don't really hear much anymore.

  • @alphazoom

That clean/distorted sound is achieved using only the volume knob on the Gibson Firebird guitar with mini-humbuckers played through a Marshall tube amp. I'm trying to find out the name of the guitarist. My band needs to play this song.

  • Oh my gosh!! You have just recreated SEXY for you!

  • Unbelievable sounds coming out of his mouth!! I always knew he could sing ANYTHING! and this proves it. Wonderful. Just plain wow.

  • Damn Tom! Who knew! This is amazing.

  • i think this song sounds better in live then here

  • fuck ME!

Ich liebe auch das Lied " green green gras of home ". Beide Lieder berühren die

Seele. Tut ja auch mal gut.

  • Just just I heard this hammer song on the German television in the popular talk show "3 after 9" - this song fells me! The tiger become 70 years old scarcely shows his claws, and they are still very sharp!!! Really - please still even more of it!!! Thanks for posting and all the best of all from Germany!!

  • This son of a bitch is like Sean Connery. Just got better with age. What stage performer can really touch this man? He' s majic.

  • @starr522 Shaken, not stirred.

  • @starr522 You have it said,Brother!!!

  • i can just imagine this on a film lol

  • suddenly i love tom jones....what a face, what a voice....

  • interesting take on John Lee Hooker's song - less involved, the scenario is omitted of at once begging Deacon Jones to pray for his soul and denying that Hell (and Heaven) exist - also omitted is the cosmic couplet of denial:

Ain't no Heaven, ain't no burnin' Hell:

When I die, where I go, can't no man tell ...

but good gritty macho delivery and rocknroll guitar - give it a B

  • the best of tom jones
