damn, the guitar kicks butt on this, eh ? hardly ANYthing to this song , just a powerful voice , a mean guitar and a couple bashes on the drums......COOL. very ''White Stripes'' !!
I'm a classic rock fan (Stones, Zep, The Who) and when I heard Tom Jones perform this on The Late Show with David Letterman, he just blew me away! The man won't quit! I have to believe that John Lee Hooker would be proud of this cover.
Mr. Jones you are so awesome! I can't wait to buy this sound track. You still got it. I just love the bluesy style combined with gospel music! Keep it coming!!!!!!!!!!!!
I heard this on XM and thought I was listening to a new Jack White recording. I hit the info button and flipped out to see it was Tom Jones. Anyone know the name of the guitarist? I've got to find out his tuning. In some of the live videos I can just about make out how to play this but I can't get it exactly right. It's simple but not easy.
That vocal is astonishing. All the power and emotion are still there.
This man is just amazing! he can cover anything and give it a truely different sound. There are very little artists out there today young or old that has have the talent this man STILL HAS!
Yes, this man is just amazing ! His carrier is bigger then life , because of his stunning vocal power and sensual voice, awesome presentation and unique style !
@bibi5112 Thanks for the reply. I have seen him twice once at local tribal casino and once on the waterfront in down town Seattle. That was about 10 yrs ago. Both were great shows. I would love to see him again. Take care
I'm goin' down to the Church House, get down on my bendin' knee. Deacon Jones please pray for me. To me there ain't no Heaven, to me there ain't no burnin' hell. NO Yeah hey, I'm goin' down to the cross roads, with no Devil will I make a deal. When I die where will I go, when i die where will I go, won't some body tell me! Yeeaaahhhh. Great version Ol' Tom!
@tattooshopjunkie i agree, and i bet Tom does too... still worth doing, even if you cannot surpass the all-time best at something. this is just Tom's contribution. hopefully he gets some folks also to listen to John Lee...
I saw Sir Tom yesterday at the New Orleans Jazz Fest. He opened with a scorching rendition of Burning Hell and didn't let up for an hour and a half. He stayed away from his campy stuff and gave the crowd a heavy dose of Blues, R&B and funk. Amazing.
Oh, and rwbrdms 1, Bonamassas' version of Burning Hell sounds like he was performing it for a room full interior decorators.

It was by accident that I've heard a couple of songs from this album on the radio while driving in my car(though I recognized it was Tom didn't know it were songs from his new album at that moment) and I thought my god that Tom Jones (to mention he's not my favourite singer) has made some fucking good songs on this album. It was a surprise to me as I knew him as a hit maker only.I couldn't have believed such good songs could be made these days,it's all so natural and powerful. That's why I'm here.
@TacomaPaul ..... The musical arranger was Les Reed.(also one of the composers of this song) Although the guitar has been cited as having been provided by Jimmy Page later of of Led Zeppelin, Reed has clarified that the only guitarist was Joe Moretti who was also known as the guitarist for Jonny Kidd & The Pirates' Shakin' All Over session.
i used to think Tom Jones was shit. His music was too soft and pussy then but i have to say this is the best version of this song ive ever heard and its good to hear him singin some REAL music. John Lee hooker is a legend by the way!!
I love this track, the guitarist and Tom's voice were made for each other. I agree Tom just gets better and better! A great interpretor of great music.
This is a great song. I love the live performance he did on Letterman. It blows the studio version away. Tom Jones is a phenomenon to be experienced live.
