I disagree. After perceived victories, defense spending tends to go down.
I think that our presence there is used by the radical elements to recruit from the less radical elements.
Think about it. After we defeated the British, people went back to their farms and villages.

But my main point is that we have no business deposing dictators. That is not our job.
The job of the US government is defending US citizens on US soil, not liberating people in every tin-pot dictatorship in the world. If deposing Saddam, who was not a threat to us, is OK, then where does it stop? Why didn't we focus on bin Laden or Kim Jong Il? These are actual threats to us. The war is making us less safe, be helping the radicals recruit the less extreme.

The French saw it as in their interests to keep the British busy here. They saw it as a quagmire for the British. Iraq is a quagmire for us, now, and I'm sure the Russians and Chinese are happy to see us bogged down there. The Dutch wanted to protect trade relationships with the colonists. I'm sure there are other countries aiding the Iraqi insurgents in order to gain trade advantages later. The Spanish wanted territory, and this is like Iraq wanting some of the Iraqi north. Could happen.

Personally I'd rather see Obama as president. If McCain wins I have no problem with that. Though hopefully whoever's elected will push for a deeper investigation into the releasing of Valerie Plame's name while she was undercover. Aswell as why the current administration deleted emails that are public documents and by law are not suppose to be destroyed.

I look at their records - in Illinois passed a law that required interrogations to be filmed. He co-sponsored the bill that allows us to easy access to details of federal spending. Passed the law that made lobbyists disclose their bundling activities (although he still takes lots of bundler money). Obama attended multiple grade schools. I'm not under the illusion that Obama is great - I just look at their records and decide what I can milk out of the situation - they are all scum.
