I love this song. My mother was in tears when she first heard John sing this. It reminded her of her parents who used to sing this together. Her father died when she was about 10 and the night he died could remember sneaking down stairs to find her mother playing the song on the piano and singing with tears streaming down her face. Must admit to a lump in the throat at the moment myself.
Thanks for putting this up, though I don't think my kids will like it when I have a go at it.
This was my dear old grannies fav brings a wee tear to the eye she would certainly endorse this great singer thnx for posting and good luck from bonnie Scotland
I was reading the novel "Again the magic" by Lisa Kleypas and in one part they mention this song, I search it, heard it, and instantly loved it! Literature has given me the opportunite of appreciate much better the moments, the taste of love, the sight of things, and music, I'm a huge fan of Sinatra and Armstrong at my 20's, and "The Rose of Tralee" is now one of my favorite too!
Oh, yes, I find it a beautiful thing when, reading a book, the author name a movie or a song, it's nice to look for what they are if you don't know them! :)
Thanks very much for watching my video and for your comment, and thanks to L. Kleypas who made you discover this wonderful song!!! ^_^
My Grandmother loves this song. She's terminally ill and I went to see her. I played the cd of John McDermott, and when this song would play, you could tell it had a profound effect on her. She lacks the ability to sing or say many words in the advanced state of her illness. But you can see it in her face. I've heard several renditions of this song, and John McDermott's makes more of an impact . Gram only has a couple weeks to live:( I'll think of my Gram when I play this song:)
Oh, I'm really sorry to hear that :( I know what is is to see a ill person dying, so I think I can get your pain and your feelings right now... I can just pray God for you and your family and your Granma... may He gives you the strength!
You're welcome, copying lyrics was not that greatest amount of time! ;) But I'm happy you appreciated me to do it, and I also thanks you for your comment... it's a very beautiful and emotional song...
