This would be a fantastic defunct rail line to fill in with finer rock dust and be used as a bike path from Banks, OR to Tillamook, OR. _SO_ many people would be into biking to the coast from Portland area on a no-car route!
According to their website, FEMA gave them money to rebuild the railroad after the flood, but the powers that be diverted the money to improve the airport and the industrial park.
This is such a peaceful and beautiful ride - no crossings, horns, cars... nothing but beautiful woods, in a "secret place", where only trains can go... LOL
The POTB has officially mothballed the line. They filed for a discontinuance of service last week.
I was pretty optimistic about getting it rebuilt before this but now it looks like nothing will ever be done about it. Farewell POTB, you shall be missed. :-(
I called the POTB and they were not very hopeful about rebuilding the line. They said they need FEMA to pay for 1/2 of the reconstruction, but they think FEMA won't come through. Very sad! This is certainly one of Oregon's most scenic railroads. If they let it die, all the pioneer lives lost to build it were for naught.
Great stuff Matt... Better safe then sorry when it comes to shifted loads. Glad to see more of the videos and I was glad you were able to go with us. Can't wait for part 2!!
great vid enjoyed

I hope that they rebuild this line. I bet it's worth more than the AERC in Albany.

@Briankey1960 yes you are so correct... Obama is the reason the POTB doesn't exist anymore. You are a moron...

The money WE PAID as taxes to one of those fucktard execs of the banks for the bailouts, would have helped to re-open this line.

Nice job and a very beautiful scenic rail line indeed. What kind of locomotive was this in?

POTB Runs a fleet of ex SP and BN SD9s. By the looks of it, it was in a BN SD9.

No kidding they're done? I was hearing they got a grant to fix a good portion. Could be wrong...
