Wow. Swift Current is full of rats and they have no clue where the source is coming from? Come on ! if the people were allowed to burn in the first place then they wouldn't of had this problem. Guaranteed.

Really, making a big issue out of this does NOT scare the rats away. Holding a town hall meeting, unless it is for the rats to attend, will NOT affect the rat population. I think I smell an election this fall. Many of the people who want the city to act like a SWAT squad would be the first to complain about the increase in taxes. How about a campaign that anyone who wants to contribute $100 for rat irradication this fall send a cheque to the City. Let's see how many people are THAT serious.

i've seen alot of these 'dump focused' comments that are really pointed at the landfill operator. seems like a hidden agenda to me. many articles that allow comments on the web, there is someone very similar to rathater46 who is blaming the operations of the dump since a change....hmmm...anyone else connecting some dots?

I am getting tired of the city saying they don't know where the rats are comming from. The 1st rat showed up shortly after the initial big burn at the dump. The 1st time I heard of a rat sighting it was at the hospital/Walmart, very close to the dump. I heard (only rumors) that the burn was started in the middle instead of the outside burning inward so nothing can run out.

I also heard that before the city took over the dump, the garbage was burried every day, now it sits there for up to a week before being covered. Would give the rats lots of opportunity to feed. You can draw your own conclution, but the way the city keeps trying to downplaying the rat problem sounds more like someone trying to hide something rather than someone who is concerned. Once agian this is only rumors not proven facts ,but I do believe that it does need futher investigation

Everyone needs to attend the Town Hall Meeting at the iplex. We need to get the mayor and council to take this rat problem seriously and finally take action and rid Swift Current of this dangerous and digusting rat infestation. They need to hire professionals and need to test these rats for rabies. Does someone need to get sick or die from a rat bite first?

The City of Swift Current would not take this rat problem seriously when it first began at the end of April. If they had begun action then we would not have the severe infestation we now have. The City council needs to hie more pest control officers, give out information, rat traps, poison . They have turned the blame onto the citizens.
People need to clean yards, but the city is using this as their only action. How about doing garbage pick up daily? Hire more gabage collectors.
