If you consider a sing along as the harmonizing vocals in the background creating chords as you sing the main melody, then I'm afraid that you are wrong. An instrumental is exactly that, as well. "Instrument"; as in ONLY the background music/vocals. I know a karaoke website where we can sing for free: it’s Singchana. You have just to register and after you can sing all the songs you want for free. Your voice is compared to the original voice and at the end of the song, you get a score for your performance and you can challenge our friends! It’s funny! You should try it!

@gymnatics2 No, it's not. Karaoke is Japanese for "empty orchestra". If you consider a sing along as the harmonizing vocals in the background creating chords as you sing the main melody, then I'm afraid that you are wrong. An instrumental is exactly that, as well. "Instrument"; as in ONLY the background music/vocals. A sing along is what you would expect from Disney, where they give you the lyrics and you sing along with the original version of the song WITH THE VOCALS (such as this vid). (:
