Stop fighting and just enjoy the pure brilliance of the music. Of course doing so many performances of ANY song will strain your voice. In the studio or live. It's not just Dave, that will happen to anyone. You also have to add in that his smoking has had a huge impact on his voice as well.

also dave doesn't have to much strain on his voice anymore. When DMB first started out and they were doing 6 shows a week he would lose his voice constantly. He'd take cortizone (steroid) shots before performances just to sing. that's dedication. but now and days he has had voice coaches to strengthen that vocal instrument.

I read an interview where dave explains it's about America through the war. "stay american baby" refers to the soldiers. And the intro when he's like "she said" it's about the families and loved ones begging soldiers not to go. think of it as a guilty conscience girl friend in the back of your mind! "SHE SAID"

I heard it was about the war...Perhaps it is a political statment? Maybe the "she" he is referring to is Lady Liberty screaming at our current status? Most countries hate us, we are bullies, and we have no busines in Iraq...imposing our values on societies that choose to honor their own traditions? And, that goes against what our country was founded on. "Lady Liberty" could be pissed! That may be a bit deep of an explanation, but either way, it's a tremedous piece!
