  • jfin67shark-I like your comment!

  • OMG I freaking love leadbelly I am a female that wishes i was back in his day he would have indeed been my boo big and black just like i LOVE them! lol

  • Comment removed

  • i LOVE the way he says "lord, lord, lord"

  • This guy should be deemed the father of all rock if he hasn't already been. He was writing some dark shit.

  • I love this!

  • i can see if you don't like this kinda music now that we've got electric guitars and the meaning of songs is so obscure but this guy was probably some heavy shit back in his day

  • he looks like boosie

  • @sixsixseveneight ...yeah dicklick

  • This is what a guitar wants

  • @sixsixseveneight then you do it dicklick

  • How could you possibly dislike Leadbelly?

The man is underappreciated....I swear people have no idea what real music talent is.

  • ahhh, is he teasen "the grey lady" again?

  • @TheRubensALE will check that out do

  • "Lead Belly is the only convicted murderer who ever released a succesful childrens albumn."- Woody Guthrie

  • THERE'S A GOOD BIO. MOVIE ABOUT HIM .

  • @YINGLUNG007 true

  • I heard this man...this badass man... sang his way out of jail. He sang to the warden and he let him out!!!

  • @threestarpr yo.... this is a true story...

  • this is tupac.... in time....

  • @codehendrix I know that you mean this as a compliment, and Tupac is the cream of gangster rap but OUCH, that comparison is like a kick in the nuts. Lead Belly was a virtuoso musican and a poet. Tupac is a just a poet. sampling music is the euphonic equivalent of a collage: anyone can do it. But if you're refering to the parrallells of their lives:Led Belly Makes Tupac look like a roadie for Paula Abdul. Lead Belly would have made Shakur his woman. and he would have made Tupac like it.

  • @populistherd Yo for real.... No one is as bad as those guys were....... Tupac is just a kid compared to them he died when he was 25 only....

  • @codehendrix first prisons were so much harsher in Led Belly's days. He lived half his life on a chain gang doing hard labour we can only imagine, under treatment that we wouldn't expose animals to today. Being black then, and being Black in Tupac's time, you can't compare the two. LedBelly had the harder life and without a gun, Tupac would have gotten hurt by my man Ledbelly. In the same cell, Tupac would be LedBelly's bitch. you know its true. guns are for scared bitches. real men use hands

  • @populistherd Tupac would agree, "the only thing I've been convicted of is fighting, hitting somebody in the face with my fists." -Tupac. Believe me Pac was up for a fight anytime and only with those he disliked. If it was up to him he would have settled things through fists but when you get shot five times in a place you originally felt completely out of harms way and you got the cops and hip hop police following you around i would start carrying a gun too.

  • James Joyce immortalised it in Ulysses, Chapter 5, 190.

  • what a badass

  • an dey al gon quak quak lawd lawd lawd

  • I found out Leadbelly shot somebody.

  • @elcottonball - leadbelly was in jail twice, once on a chaingang he escaped, the second time he killed his relative in a fight about a woman... he married at fifteen and is probably the most bad mother in music history..

  • I always wondered where all those nirvana covers came from...

  • Moonspell is alot like this!!

  • What does he say at the beginning its not that clear ?

  • @FloydtheBrber now this is a grey goose down in my home people go to church on a sunday, a babtist church, and it had a preacher which was the pastor of that church. instead of he going to that church on sunday, he went out and tried to kill a grey goose and the goose is still laughin at him......

  • Love this!

  • the ole grey goooooose !!! you didnt fuck with leadbelly back in the day

  • @MrLeadbelly Still the white devil did;)

  • Love this song!

  • Leadbelly is badass!

    F*cking Brilliant.

  • that is what you call a field holler!!!!!

  • YAY! my name is 'tombstonehand'! How retarded and embarassing you are.

  • LMAO that was great! Cock-chokehands! Total Ownage!!!

  • legend

  • Sooooooo badass, this guy.

  • How did somebody as badass as leadbelly ever live in this shitty world?

  • What a cool tune.

  • This song is powerful the intensity is powerful. We should all be like the Grey Goose..he could not be defeated no matter what.

  • @treemonisha2006 word!

  • @treemonisha2006 Yup, the Grey Goose is the soul of the black man

  • @plateofshrimp80s It's a white song for the record.

  • @wellhill99 Some white people want to take credit for anything that doesn't reflect negatively on them. Who cares who wrote it? Leadbelly (Leadbetter) gave it a soul.

  • @treemonisha2006

I like your interpretation of this song. The song is also about a preacher who decided to break the rules of 'Sabbath Day' and hunt a goose to feed his family. Because he broke the rules of God he was punished by God who did not allow him to have the goose for dinner so his family went hungry.

  • first time hearing this i like

  • I actually like the acappella version Leadbelly does more.

  • Somebody should make a "Leadbelly" movie, I don't know who could play him, maybe Morgan Freedman, or someone great like that.

  • seems well. a movie is in orderfor him

  • Comment removed

  • Cobain was a talent but how unlike Leadbelly in the way he lived his life.

  • learn to talk english before you attempt an opinion.

  • to 'andresitompul'

please do us all the heroic favour and lock yourself in your room: dont come out until youve masturbated the last bit of teenage angst out of your system.

  • "Tombstonehand', thats so original. But don't you think it should be 'Cockchokinghand' ? Stupid gay, hahahahahahaha!

  • There is a movie. I remember seeing it late one night and recall that it wasnt bad. Ok, I found it on IMDB while writing this, lol. Search "Leadbelly (1976)" in google and you should get it.

  • There was already a movie made about him

  • People that use Wikipedia

  • Ha!

  • How many people know that he wrote the beautiful song Goodnight Irene, while incarcerated for murder in North Carolina State Penitentiary, situated in the foothills of the beautiful Appalachian mountains?

  • i had a feeling lead belly's life wasn't easy

  • It wasn't. He was in prison 2 times for attempted murder and assault (in Louisiana and Texas). In prison is where he was discovered and his talents in music.

  • He killed his relative (according to Wikipedia).

  • you guys like this song? check out the other version of this on his prison album barber shop style you'll be speechless

  • Is yall listenin to da words of the song? This here is some of the funniest shit I've heard.

What makes music good is the intent. The conscious intent of somethin and it dont matter what the artist is rappin or singin about as long as it's expressed well!

If the song reach you and you jam to it, its a good song. Dude just sat here and sung a song about tryna kill an abominable grey goose and it's a jam!

That's music. It's not just one thing, it's EVERYTHANG. Understand stand it yall.

  • not abominable goose, unbreakable goose, the goosiest goose spirit of all gooseness ever, but everything else i agree with :)

i sang this song at a poetry night night for John Peel the day after he died cos I'd been to the dentist and was high on Novacain, cleverly mixed it with booze, people weren't listening to the poets and I got so mad at the shitty crowd and felt sad and was a little woozy and angry, i sang this at the start of my set to shut everyone up.

  • man i heard the barber shop version of this track on his prison album and i was speechless

  • great song!!

  • So...these stupid people broke a perfectly good saw blade, injured a perfectly good pig, wasted a shotgun shell, and it took them 24 weeks to work out it was a plastic goose???

    Geez...i thought I was racist

  • thats why they call the liquor that

  • im gettin back to the roots too, ive been playing grunge punk all kinds of rock, i hate the new rock sound, whiny annoying vocals where you cant even hear guitar, music today is tooo over produced, i love raw, live unfilterd emotion, thank you ledbelly

  • A legend. Legendary blues man. Thanks to Nirvana promoting this guy in the 90's he is still relevant to kids today. If you kids know what good music is go back to the 60's and 40's for heartfelt music. Artists put out very good music back then. I'm 21 and all my friends hate this new age music crap that is around now. Artists and record companies are now just in business for one thing MONEY!

  • I started with alternative to 90's to 70-60's to 80's to 40's. I'm one of the few 15 year olds who play records.

  • Good that you know what good music is. I started playing records a few years ago after finding my parents collection. I never listened to them cause i thought they were inferior medium. Boy was i wrong about that they sound better than most CD's.

  • Yeh I'm 19 and there's definatley nothin better than vinyl, anyways keep listneing to good music, you never know our generation might make mainstream music good again

  • tons of kids play record's alot of punk kids play records its just more rare

  • i follow you too man, dis agree about the 80's tho:P, but i play many old records, guthrie, lead, johnson e.t.c

  • im 13 yrs , i used to play led zepellin and 80s and 70s songs, but now im looking for the roots of those songs.. like blues and funk.

  • i got 2 words for ya man music today= EMO PUSSYS!!!

  • You got that right. And you mean Rock is all these EMO pussies whining and allt that crap. Rap is even worse now. All rap artists do is rap about cars, money, women, drugs and other stupid ass shit.

  • yeh thats why i started a grunge band to try to do sumthing good for the rock scene even if we dont make it mainstream id rather be indie and if im playing in front of 5 or 5 million it dosent matter aslongs as we make a difference... but yeh rap fuckin sucks bro atleast the mainstream dose check out the underground shit tho dude

  • That's good that you are keeping grunge alive man. Keep it up. I am not a big fan of rap as it is. Late 80's and early 90's Rap was the best and always will be.

  • any thing from the early 90s was the shit dude thats when grunge was kickin ass

  • You got that right. Just keep listening to good music. Hopefully some good alternative bands come along soon. Rock is just very stagnent right now. Most of the bands sound the same in the new generation of rock bands.

  • dude..all the luck to ya

play for the music and not for the money and you're gonna make it, for sure.

and yeah i agree, rap is good but the poppy crunk crap is awful. sellouts ruined it.

  • thanks man, if you ever have the time check out the bands page myspacedotcom/officialforcefed

we got one song up its just a solo of me playing tho we cant all record untill we find a drummer

    peace

  • The music remains good as long as it remains underground, because it s played with heart, and feeling.that s why most of the really good bands and singers still are treated as underground music

  • Thats not true though. What about modern day musicians who just have more exposure?

  • that's a pretty dumb notion. You're basically saying that music isn't good unless it's underground. Leonard Cohen spent years writing Hallelujah and went through dozens of verses and frustration and tears before he finished it and it's one of the most covered songs ever, does that make it any less awesome?

  • Jeff Buckley wrote hallelujah, and it s a song about orgasm.Read the lyrics.Well, you don t have to agree with my opinion, but i think Im right about this one.I also said MOST,not ALL

  • ROFL Jeff Buckley didn't write Hallelujah, he COVERED it. Like I said, one of the most covered songs of all time. You may think it's about orgasms but it's not. Even if it is about orgasms it doesn't make a difference.

  • you don't make any sense bedak5

  • What you said there doesn't really make sense mate... your right on the fact that Leonard Cohen wrote "Hallelujah". But you sort of put yourself in the shit with the whole only metal or punk write about orgasm <.< ...

Learn not to get so pissy lol.

  • or at least learn proper english grammar :P

  • poor grammer? Not arguing your point, TheStarlessAeeon-just those of others. In context....his words...ungrammitical as they may be, beget rck n' roll

  • yeah rap sux but how in the hell is women and cars stupis shit unless ur gay not that i care if you are. lol

  • If you read what i said you would understand. "other stupid shit" Is what i said. Cars and women is what i live for.

  • Anybody with the word juggalo in their name is probably doing all they can to ruin music.

  • RIIIIGHT?... what the fuck dose psychopathic records got to do with grunge fuck tard and also lead belly? what since im a juggalo i got to listin to all psychopathic shit i cant listin to this? wow and ur profile says ur 22 u must be a fucking loser going around starting shit with random people on the internet why dont you do somthing for music? shut your fuckin mouth and listin to it

  • hey if you respond to that guy you are only feeding the troll

  • thats true, i was just trying to make a point

  • @PearlJammer07 did NOT need nirvana, was always celebrated by his people, whom he made the music for. We understand it because we have lived it. this valley girl OMG like, i love the fucking blues man shit is like nails on a chalk board.......he does not need authentication from rockers.

  • I love this song!!!

  • ty 4 this

  • Im starting to get into Leadbelly and hes one of the most interestng blues players in music history.(im 13 years old)

  • wow :)

  • i feel the same way about it as u

  • this kind of stuff iw ould never listen to.

but i cant get over on how much soul he puts in it. i cant belive it.

    i love it

  • This top drawer stuff man . Leadbelly my your memories live on .

  • Lord, Lord, Lord!!!

    RIP, Leadbelly.

  • Leadbelly is so very special. His music maked him free.

  • Leadbelly's music brings tears to my eyes, his talent was remarkable. I listen to music every day and none of it can compare to the spirit this man put into his music. Someone so passionate comes once every 50 years.

  • Nobody can touch him , the power and rhythm is stunning ! like a H16 BRM revving up , eat your heart out rock wimps

  • He just explodes music doesn't he? If he were half as tallented we would still talk about him.

  • Thanks for posting!

  • ohhhhhhh yeah i listen to the guitar now yeah gotcha ;)

  • howcome Nirvanas sounds nothing like it

  • Nirvana just covered the guitar fill and played it gradually faster. Only some of his versions have that guitar fill. I have copies that have no guitar at all.

  • Leadbelly is still my favorite artist

  • Leadbelly is the TRUE King of Rock and Roll.

  • GENIO

  • or folk music

  • The King of Twelve String baby!
