My 13 year old corgi, Bailey, is boss of the house (she thinks anyway). She started herding the kids when she was about 6 weeks old and still does it today. She herds the cats, other dogs, guests and always has a lot to say. She'll come up to and talk in her "inside voice" and look at you like she knows you understand.
MY CORGI IS NAMED ZOEY TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Corgis are great. You can practically train them with sweet-talk. But they like food too. I call out, "Who's a champion?" and Bonnie always comes. Then I say "Who's the bestest puppy?" Bonnie comes. I say, "Who's the best?" And Keira comes.
We've had 2 corgi girls, at different times. They have both been very strong-willed, dominant ladies who love to play and chase. Neither of our girls has had a mean moment EXCEPT when they had to assert that dominance by putting our malamute in his place! After owning our first corgi, we can't imagine ever wanting another breed of dog. They are perfect!
Yeah they tend to bark a little more than average, but I am so glad my corgis chose me as their owner. Well, I just have my girl now, my boy is no longer with us :(
@Davoren15 No, I wouldn't say so and "vicious" is against the breed standard. They were bred to herd cattle and sheep and be all-around farm dogs, so they tend to be bossy and they will enforce their dominance by nipping heels and being growly. They talk a lot and make all kinds of interesting noises (Arrrroooooo! is my favorite). They do like to growl when playing with you and each other - though I wouldn't call them "angry", just expressive. They are very affectionate, too.
@Rabscuttle02. Don't hate just because you don't own one. :) I have five of my own and the only hyper ones are the puppies, and they calm down after some ball time. These are seriously the best dogs I have ever owned. My sole complaint is when my stud drags his junk in the mud then wants to lay it all on my clean floor.
@Rabscuttle02 ,That's simply not true!!! I've had Corgis since 1972 and not one chatterbox among them!!! They all have an Alert bark; if mine is barking I need to find out why!!! When Cedar clears the back porch and enters the yard he will bark one arrival bark string(3 to 5), to let anything out there know that He is now on site!! lol But unless there is a squirrel to discipline , or Duke next door to greet, that's it!!! trb
@trbfshmn Well, the Corgi I know is really messed up in the head. He's quite mental. It is always running, barks at everything and begs for food. Every time I go and pick up the kids, he barks at me like he's seen me for the first time in his life, even though I've walked him and taken him to my house. He even ate a few dollar bills once because he thought it was lettuce.
Plus he's the only black Corgi I've ever seen. Don't believe me? Check out my You Tube Video entitled "Stupid Corgi"
@trbfshmn Mine's a major talker, but then she feels like she has to manage every little thing. How to be a Corgi: if it moves, you bark at it, if it runs you chase it, when it stops, you bite it.
That corgi is NOT fat! she is in perfect condition; what you are seeing is her COAT. She weighes 25-27 lbs. and is now almost 11 years old - and she is still running strong! The "skinny" ones are the youngsters, about a year old at the time this was shot, who had not yet grown into their bodies. The music is Orange Blossom Special!
@krstnlhjt HAHA!!! No. They are completely different dogs. I have seen, and raised both. Corgis, while energetic pay more attention and are easier to train. Jack Russels, while very sweet overflow with energy. Corgis and Jack Russel Terriers are nothing alike, I would go more into it, but that would take time and effort I'm currently not willing to put into it.
My Granddog is so full of energy, but when its time to go to bed, Chevy is ready and waiting for some snuggling. Bed time is about the only time Chevy settles down. Love those Corgi kisses. (My daughter says Chevy doesnt snuggle with her. Ha ha. Chevy loves his grandma the most LOL)
Corgis are only the cutest dogs on the planet if you are a Corgi lover to begin with. However, I am a big big dog lover (have a great Pyr). My daughter brought over a PembrookCorgi and I totally fell in love with him. My Pyr keeps him in line, but the Corgi totally rules over my lab. Now I cant decide what my next dog will be.
Thank you for posting that - what a wonderful video! Can I come and hang out with the dogs?? LOL... Anyway, is a delightful combination of dogs, family, fun and great music. I had a Pembroke Corgi as a kid in the mid 60's. Never had a better friend.
where was this? It looks like it was in massachusetts. (Actually, some of the dogs in those pics look kind of like mine. At 1:50, the black headed one looks like my dog finnagan, only quite skinnier.
You got that right. I had no idea what I got my corgi over 18 years ago. I had never seen one. He made it to 14 (five years ago). They are the smartest and feisty. And they are so independent and the cutest puppies ever!!

I can't imagine someone wanting one Corgi, let alone a whole brood. Very hyper and annoying. They never, ever stop barking.
