I didn't no that but I don't liv NE-wher close 2 ther sadley. I liv in Ontario which is like 4 hours away frum ther. But still thnx. U also 4got that thuh palm desert area gets sum weak tornadoes 2.
all the spouts were off to one direction so the turbulence was not overhead. Those are landspouts, not really actual tornados as most of us think of them. I've been walking before at the park; watching actual tornados drop in the distance & just keep walking because they're headed in a direction far off & perpendicular to my area, plus they're little and not dangerous. You know when they're dangerous & time to get indoors, trust me. These are more akin to giant dust devils.
@dragonridley Only for warning purposes, since the NWS doesn't want to assume the liability in case they don't call in a warning for a landspout and it pushes somebody over and they bump their knee.
Landspouts are virtually harmless and have no formation or structural features in common with a real tornado. They are totally different kinds of vortexes. I also don't know of anybody ever being killed by a landspout, as they rarely exceed 70 mph.
@dragonridley Believe it or not there was ONE landspout that actually became an F5! It was the infamous Jarrel, Texas tornado in 1997. I saw on TV footage of its earlier stage. It had no wall cloud, and the landspout was clearly spinning incredibly fast. It must have been fueled through unusually & entirely different means.
It might not have had a visible, but it was still associated with the mesocyclone of a supercell, which means it was not a landspout. The apparent lack of a wall cloud was probably due the the fact that the supercell that produced that tornado had a very unusual structure.
O cool cuz I wanna b a chaser 2. I'v bin in2 tornadoes sinss I wuz in thuh 4rth grade! But thuh thing is, I liv in Southern Cali4nia so I'v never seen a tornado b4 in my life yet. But even tho I haven't seen 1, I'v dun sum research on em sinss then and still plan 2 moov 2 Oklahoma 2 strt my career. May-B wee can both team up and chase em! :D
@evanm51yahoo - Hawthorne, CA had a bad one in 1966. Look up THE TORNADO PROJECT online; you can see the tornado history of counties in California since 1950.
Because they are at least a mile to two miles away from the spouts, moreplus the level of danger from these less severe phenomena is considerably low.
glad it looked like it didn't mess up anybodys day.

Maybe it was just one BIG multiple vortex tornado, and these people were in its center.

@evanm51yahoo The Central Valley near Fresno gets weak tornadoes, so you're not totally in a tornado-free area.
